apps world 2014

During my recent trip to Apps World, I dug up a few games like Solar Warfare and Revel that will make their way to Windows Phone before long. Naturally I kept asking the indie developers in attendance about future Windows Phone and Windows support.

Of those developers I spoke with, the makers of Puzzle Raiders and Pata Pata were especially interested in bringing their games to Windows Phone. Puzzle Raiders is a clever match-3 puzzle game with actual controllable characters, while Pata Pata mixes a simple board game with African themes. Learn about both games and their current stages of development after the break.

First look at Solar Warfare for Windows Phone

A few days ago, we highlighted three children’s games for Windows Phone that two-man indie developer TegTap brought along to Apps World. All great games for kids, but older gamers in our audience will naturally crave a more substantial gameplay experience. Luckily TegTap is poised to bring just such a game to Windows Phone 8 in the next few weeks…

We’re pleased to bring you this exclusive first look at the Windows Phone version of Solar Warfare (not to be confused with Star Warfare!) from TegTap. A 3D sci-fi shooter with expansive levels, gigantic bosses, and lots of ship upgrades to unlock, Solar Warfare is poised to take shoot-em-up fans by storm. It will even feature MOGA controller support shortly after launch. Head past the break for our hands-on video and preview!

Last year Windows Phone Central brought our readers the first news that indie developer TegTap would be releasing its popular 3D shooter Solar Warfare on Windows Phone and Windows 8. Before we give you an updated status report on Solar Warfare’s progress, let’s look at what else TegTap has been cooking up for mobile Windows platforms in the meantime.

At Apps World in San Francisco, we met with TegTap CEO Troy Tegeder to check out his studio’s lineup of kids’ games for Windows Phone and Windows 8. They’ve already published Dragon Maker for both phone and tablet/PC, and My Fairy Pony and Balloon Maker just for Windows Phone. All phone versions run on devices with 512 MB of RAM such as the Nokia Lumia 520.

We've got the full details and a hands-on video after the break.

Last week’s Apps World was an event dedicated to mobile games and apps - and the craft of making them. Apps World culminated with the Big Indie Pitch, a contest in which game developers pitched their games to members of the press. I look forward to telling you all about my experience with the Pitch very soon.

In the meantime, let’s look at one of the two games that won the Big Indie Pitch. New York-based developer Odin’s Hammer bought their social interaction/photo game Revel to the show. Revel is a unique scavenger hunt-style game in which players take photos of things in their environment and try to outdo their peers. And though it’s a long way off, Revel will be coming to Windows Phone!

I went to this week’s Apps World event in San Francisco to search for mobile Windows games and apps. Wouldn’t you know it? I’ve turned up a few! Before we roll out the games coverage, we’ll first reveal a find that came within the Apps World TV Hackfest area. That section of the show deals specifically with video viewing apps, technology, and lots of coughing. Okay, probably not the coughing.

Within the TV Hackfest area, we met with Anthony Rose, Co-founder and CTO of Zeebox. The Zeebox second-screen TV app offers a customizable TV guide, news feeds for users’ favorite shows, discussion rooms for those shows, and more. Lucky for us, Zeebox and Microsoft are partnering to bring a Zeebox app to Windows 8 and RT in the coming weeks! Check out our video interview to see how Zeebox will make watching the shows you like better and easier – with the help of your Windows tablet.

Windows Phone Central has a proud tradition of providing live coverage from a variety of gaming events. We’ve brought you news and interviews from E3, Game Developer’s Conference, Casual Connect, and more. If there are Windows Phone, Windows 8, or Xbox games to be played – we’ll be there.

This week we’ll be attending a new mobile industry event for the first time: Apps World. This one takes place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California on February 5th and 6th. Apps World is a special event for us because I’ll be judging at a contest for game developers called the Big Indie Pitch during the event. The Big Indie Pitch is open to the public if you register in advance. Head past the break for more details!
