After all those December deals on Xbox Windows phone games, it’s only natural that the return to a single Xbox Red Stripe Deal of the Week would be less exciting. And so it is! This week’s Xbox sale game is alchemic puzzle game Doodle God from JoyBits. Doodle God last went on sale for 99 cents in July – here’s another chance to get it on the cheap.

If the repeated Xbox sale doesn’t light your fire, perhaps the remaining Red Stripe Deals will do it. Instead of two non-Xbox deals, we have five this time – all Windows Phone 7 and 8 compatible. Games Drive Hard Taxi from JuJu-Apps, Jack Hale from Igor Maliukh, and Toilet People from Muki Software are on sale for 99 cents. Productivity apps Chronos Calendar and Yivosoft Recorder also get discounts. Head past the break for descriptions, pictures, and Store links!

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Calendar Apps

While the native Windows Phone calendar app has it's usefulness, it can be a little lacking with regards to features. A little on the vanilla side if you will.

Luckily there are some nice third party options in the Windows Phone Store that can provide a little more functionality and features to your Windows Phone calendar. Apps that will help you keep track of where you need to be and when you need to be there.  And that's the focus of this week's roundup... calendar alternatives.

We picked three of the more popular calendar apps in the Store that offers you an alternative to the native calendar app on your Windows Phone. If we missed your favorite calendar app, there's no conspiracy afoot just went with these three based on their popularity. Feel free to sound off below in the comments with your pick for a Windows Phone calendar app.

Chronos Calendar for Windows Phone has been updated, introducing more functionality and configuration for the Live Tile. The popular calendar app for both Windows Phone sports new display modes for Live Tiles with multiple options available. We've previously looked at the developer releasing update for the app, with a rather large recent upgrade introducing Google Calendar sync.

Many of our readers have noticed that Chronos Calendar is no longer available on the Windows Phone Store. The app received a major upgrade only yesterday, but the developer has found a bug within the app and has pulled Chronos Calendar until an update is published. If you've already updated or downloaded the latest version, the developer has offered a quick solution to avoid issues.

We told you about Chronos Calendar a few weeks ago and we hope you grabbed it then. The super smooth calendar app was free at the time and has since been bumped up to $1.99 for new users.

We gushed at the time about the clear and easy to read calendar replacement, which allows you to create, edit and delete appointments as it syncs directly to your Microsoft Account. While some opined that it wasn’t “Modern UI” enough, others complained about the lack of Google Calendar support as they need it for work.

We don’t cover calendar issues here too frequently if only because we know the native calendar app for Windows Phone is “meh” and third-party apps are hit and miss. Toss in the fact that everyone has their own idea of what makes a good calendar and it’s a hard topic to cover.

But we were recommended Chronos Calendar by a reader today and upon trying it, we were kind of blown away.

For one, it’s in our opinion gorgeous. The app supports high resolution graphics and boy do they shine on a Windows Phone 8 device.  With bold, crisp visuals, we really enjoy checking out the split view (day on top, monthly below) for our appointments. Navigation is also simple with the 3 button center console: view toggle, jump list, settings. Tapping any day will cycle through that selection on to the top window, allowing you to quickly visualize your tasks.
