Although official sports apps tend to share the same status as banking apps on Windows Phone – that is, ignored – ESPN is not one of them. This morning version 1.0 of the ESPN App, formerly known as the ESPN Hub, went live in the Store.

The new ESPN App looks to have been completely re-written and ready for Windows Phone 8.1. We last wrote about ESPN Hub back in December, 2013 so this makeover has been a long time in the making.

Dish and Disney have reached a distribution deal that will allow subscribers to watch Disney content on their computers and mobile devices.

Using apps found in Apple's App Store, Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and the Windows store, viewers will be able to watch live programming from ABC Family, Disney Channel and Disney XD, as well as live network streams of ABC, which are currently available in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Fresno, Philadelphia and Raleigh-Durham.

We’ve seen the Windows Phone Store fill out with some really nice apps this past year, but the Window Store hasn’t been doing too shabby either. In fact, higher profile apps have been coming to Windows 8.1 on a more frequent basis. Today a highly anticipated app joins the Windows Store. WatchESPN is now available for Windows 8.

Should you somehow be unfamiliar with Formula One racing, the sport is extremely popular with some of the fastest circuit cars in the world. Keeping on top of coverage throughout the season can prove to be rather troublesome, should you not be connected to a viable source. This is where the official ESPNF1 (www.espnf1.com) Windows Phone app comes into play. Overtake the break to see what the app is all about.

We've received multiple tips that ESPNcricinfo has been updated with a revamped interface. Instead of continuing to sport a rather dull and boring interface, the team behind the app has implemented a brand new design, better reflecting the modern UI that's utilised on Windows Phone and across the Microsoft ecosystem. What's more is the new look also brings the app up to speed with counterparts on iOS and Android.

The ESPN Fantasy Football 2012 app has vanished from the Windows Phone Store and those who have been using the app have seen their teams vanish as well. The app itself has disappeared from the Nokia Collection as well but if you follow this link, you can still find the app's listing.

Unfortunately, the Nokia exclusive is noted (for both Windows Phone 7 and 8) as not being available for your device from your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone.  From the online store, the app is simply listed as "not available online" likely due to the Nokia exclusivity.

Nokia's ESPN app updated, beefs up notifications

While the big news today was definitely the official launch of Windows Phone 8, Nokia was able to slide in an update to their ESPN app over the weekend.  The update mainly deals with increasing how you can be notified on scoring and news updates through the Live tile and toast notifications.

The update adds the ability to save and pin your favorite teams and sports to your Windows Phone Start Screen, customize the Live Tile score updates and you can now receive toast notifications for news and score updates.

A new image has leaked out tonight revealing for the first time Window Phone 8's new "live" lockscreen wallpaper feature. We have mentioned live lockscreen wallpapers before, specifically when the Windows Phone 8 SDK leaked over the summertime (and we told you about them even before then). The feature is not quite as “live” as Android where things are actually moving around, wasting your battery. Instead, this is truly useful.

The image above, received by the site Nokia Innovation, shows three examples of this Live locksreen wallpaper: Bing, ESPN and USA Today. The former will refresh the lockscreen every day with Bing’s latest background, ESPN can show you sports scores presumably of your favorite team and USA Today highlights news via tile images.

We mentioned the ESPN Fantasy Football App for Nokia Windows Phone being available shortly just the other day and today, ESPN FFL 2012 is available for download. The free app will let you manage multiple fantasy football teams, check in on player performance and view news and video highlights from ESPN.

ESPN FFL 2012 also taps into FantasyCast Live Scoring that will deliver real time player and matchup scoring to your Windows Phone.

NFL season is just around the corner and in just the nick of time, the ESPN Fantasy Football app has passed Marketplace certification and is headed to the Nokia Collection. The fantasy football app will be an exclusive for the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone lineup and should be live on the Marketplace in the next day or two.

ESPN Fantasy Football allows you to manage your fantasy teams and monitor player performance from multiple teams and leagues. You have the capability of following teams on game day with real-time FantasyCast scores and news.

Currently for ESPN football/soccer fans there is the official ESPNSoccernet app that was launched on July 2nd. The app is an extension of Soccernet.com, which ESPN owns but the branding was always confusing. The Windows Phone app has received mediocre reviews with some people noting it still felt like a beta.

Now, ESPN seems to be rebranding their efforts by re-launching Soccernet.com as ESPNFC.com. Going to the former site will now redirect you to the new address and site redesign. Not only that, the new site will feature many more features than the previous Socceernet.com offering and it should keep fellow footballers happy...

We’re not too sure what to make of this but here’s the deal: there’s a seemingly very official ESPN Radio app now in the Windows Phone Marketplace and you can download it to any Windows Phone not just a Nokia.

We mention that because it was only Friday that Nokia came out with the news that an ESPN Radio app should be in the Nokia Marketplace within the next day or two. Well, here we are two days later and there is a very nice ESPN Radio app but it will also load on any Windows Phone. Accident? On purpose? Does Nokia have a ‘special edition’ of the app coming out very soon too? We just don’t know…
