Top Baseball Apps for Windows Phone

Windows Phone Central App Roundup: Baseball Apps

Major League Baseball opened it’s 2014 Season this week and we would be remiss if we failed to present you with a roundup of the top Windows Phone apps for keeping up with America’s Past-time. These are dedicated Major League Baseball apps.

We’ve got four of the top apps in this week’s roundup that deliver stats, video highlights, player profiles, news from the baseball field and even streaming live video from games. And just to make sure all our bases are covered, we’ve got a short list of honorable mentions for you to consider as well.

Last season, Major League Baseball fans on Windows Phone went half the season without an official app in the Windows Phone Store. It wasn’t until August that At Bat 13 came out, which, while disappointing, was better than nothing. Are we in for another round of déjà vu this year with an entire season of baseball slipping away before we see a new app out for Windows Phone? Nope. At Bat 14 is coming next month.

At Bat 13 is a feature rich Windows Phone 8 app that will keep you up to date on all the action on the diamond. The app does a respectable job of delivering all the scores, stats, highlights, videos and news from Major League Baseball. You can even sign into your MLB.com account to access your MLB.TV Premium subscription, access the MLB.com Store and listen to streaming game broadcasts.

At Bat 13 was updated yesterday, taking the app to version 1.1.0.15 and get it ready for the playoffs. The update includes a new section dedicated for the 2013 playoffs with filters for all post-season series and teams.

Great news for those who watch America’s favorite pastime, aka Major League Baseball (MLB), as their official app for the 2013 season is now available for free download. The app is of course limited to Windows Phone 8, as far as we can tell, but that should not be a surprise considering how much easier it is to develop for.

The app itself has a nice redesign and is chock full of features, allowing even the most devoted baseball fan to be content.

Last week, in the avalanche of official apps that was unleashed, 'MLB at Bat 11' was hands down the most expensive, coming in at $15. The official app of Major League Baseball though had some amazing features, including radio for every game being played (often two choices), instant replay video, live stats and more.

Our own George Ponder gave it a quick review and he left impressed, even with the hefty price tag:

"If you are a baseball fan, I dare say that MLB.com at Bat 11 is a must have app for your Windows Phone. There's no indication if part of the proceeds are going to help the Dodgers climb out of Bankruptcy but MLB.com is well worth the price of admission."

But still, $15 is expensive which leads us to today's story that it has dropped to $9.99 from $14.99. That savings of $5 could make a difference for many of you, so it well worth the look for reconsideration. Unfortunately, there's still no trial, so you'll have to take a look at George's video reivew to decide--but most folks seem to be happy. Well, except for the folks having paid $5 more just a few days ago. Maybe they can hang with the IM+ crowd.

Grab it here in the Marketplace.

(Thanks, Bishop, for the heads up!)
