Bank of America confirms it's working on a Windows 10 Mobile app

Bank of America has confirmed on Twitter that it has a Windows 10 Mobile app in development. Banking apps have been a pain point for Windows Phone users, with several dropping support on Windows Phone 8.1, so it's definitely a breath of fresh air here to see a Windows 10 Mobile app in the works from a big U.S. bank. The reply below was in response to a tweet hoping to see Bank of America end up back in the Windows Store soon.

While we don't know when the Bank of America app will make its way to Windows 10 Mobile, it is still great to hear that it is in the works.

Thanks for the tip, Rodolfo

  • Please be true!!
  • Let's hope they create a great UWP app that looks amazing on the desktop and mobile to support their millions of customers running Windows 10 on desktop and mobile.
  • Okay so they are coming back .!!! W10 Is gaining .!! All hail ;P
  • Oh heck! The jokers are back..
  • Windows 10 might just work like MS hoped it would.
  • Guess they've stolen your account.
  • Ho. Ly. Sh.
  • Its true. They replied me too about a month back on Twitter.
  • Finally! It has been frustrating to not have the ability to deposit checks with my phone.
  • Chase?
  • Fort Worth Community Credit Union??
  • Bank of Slater & Knotsi (won't let me spell the real word)?
  • rodneyej Ft. Worth was once home for me too.  :)
  • All banks and enterprises will come aboard W10 UWP wagon eventually.
  • Good luck with that....
  • This.
  • I have a serious question? What checks are people depositing that they need a bank app to do it? I have had pay checks on automatic deposit for decades so that I don't have to go through any hassle to make deposits. I'm just curious as to what all of the checks are that peolple need to use an app to deposit. That said, I hope all of the major banks get on board since it seems to be so important to so many people.
  • Birthday check from grandma? Expense checks from companies who don't direct deposit those? Girl scout cookie payments? I just planned a high school reunion, and I had people sending me paper checks left and right because they didn't want to use PayPal. Plenty of use left in this world for mobile check deposit.
  • Okay, but most of your examples (except for the reunion and girl scouts, and I think it would be easier to do those in a bunch at an ATM) are occasional occurences. I guess it's just a personal preference thing, but if it's not a weekly or less than a week frequency, I just don't see it as a must have for me.
  • I get expense checks from work at least once a month. Also, rent checks from my rentals although they too have started to do dirct deposits at times. Various cash back checks from credit cards...so yes, loosing the check deposit feature was a big PITA.
  • My company does not offer direct deposit as they pay directly as opposed to a payroll co. Losing the Chase app was a HUGE PITA because there is also no Chase in my city which means once a week I have to drive 20 miles to the nearest Chase. This is a big inconvenience and I will be switching to BOA the MOMENT this new app is released.
  • im guessing people are just too ******* lazy to actually use an atm these days, for me personally i use my branch at counter to make deposits and such for my personal accounts and business account. I have no use for these banking apps, If i need to check my accounts i will just open edge and check from there.
  • I hope they keep the app and don't close it again due to low user base. WP 10 has a much lower user base than WP 8.1
  • As long as it can be used on tablets to deposit checks...
  • If it's a universal app, and it doesn't require a lot of changes to go from mobile UI to desktop UI and the bulk of the work is shared, then they will probably get the users they want from PC and keep the app updated.    Here is to hoping!
  • It's likely it will be heavily supported due to the fact that it's UWP and Windows 10 Desktop will have a huge user base by the end of next year, and being UWP means supporting both Desktop and Mobile is easy
  • Windows 8 has a large user base and it wasn't supported. Why will this? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • @Bleached. Because it is more universal than "universal" :p.
  • Windows 8/8.1 never got wide adoption and the majority of publicity was bad with a lot of confused users, not only that but also the fact that user engagement with the store was pretty low. With Windows 10 it is off to a flying start on desktop and user engagement with the store is very good this time around. If Microsoft can grab 25% market share on Desktop by the end of 2016 it will be extremely difficult for any company to ignore the platform as it wouldn't make business sense to ignore it, share holders would raise questions and push CEOs to get on the platform. And that's without considering mobile, if the Panos Phone proves to be successful like Surface and Windows Mobile grabs at least 10% worldwide market share then it will just increase this effect of shareholders expecting companies to be on Windows and in some cases demanding it. Its very easy to ignore 3% market share, 10% is not so easy, it might not be huge but when combined with desktop the user base would be something like 400 million (just a guess, not going to waste time with real maths), at those kind of numbers, it's impossible to ignore the platform.
  • This shouldn't be a surprise.  The whole BOA corporation is planning to convert to W10.
  • Most companies will convert to w10 eventually, most atms's around the world will be updated to w10 soon, w10 is big.
  • Oops. Closed my account with them back when they ditched their windows phone app. Oh well.
  • So, you're a loyal Windows Phone user ;D
  • So what if he is? Does he not have the right to do what he wants to?
  • I believe it was a joke. The response wasn't accosting him, he was encouraging him. You should read it again. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • She
  • You, Sir, are awesome!
  • Me too. I left BoA and Chase, and moved to Wells Fargo. So far, I'm happy and have no plans to go back.
  • Same here
  • i've been on wells fargo this entire time.  While i love wells fargo as a bank, their mobile app needs a lot of TLC and would LOVE a desktop app!
  • Looking at First Tech right now because nothing from us bank.  My friend used to use my phone so he could cash his checks over mobile.
  • Did you charge him a fee?
  • Been waiting 4 years for a US Bank app as well :D
  • That's some dedication to the Windows platform!
  • Why?  Chase leaving windows mobile caused me to open up an Ally account.  The service is much better if you don't need access to a physical location.
  • You're better off, BOA is the devil.
  • Agreed. I will NEVER do business with BoA, almost couldn't buy my house because they messed up my credit report and refused to fix it. Thank god the loan underwriter actually cared and did the research and helped me fix it. With that said, they are huge, so it's good to see them make an app, hopefully it'll start a trend.
  • Probably that's why they are coming back..
  • Same here.. It's to late BOA to try and get at least some of your loyal customers back. Good to see you come back, I'm not getting an account back with your company.
  • Same here but in Sweden
  • awesome, just awesome
  • Yeah... I almost left them, but I talked to an engineer at BoA who said they were going to build a Universal app.
  • Yes please! Ok checking off one of my "windows mobile will be perfect with these apps" from the list. Fully featured waze and star wars base command and ill do windows for life lol
  • Check here too!
  • Google bought Waze and then promptly shutdown the Windows phone app contrary to their "open" mindset...
  • I'm pretty sure Waze is still available.  https://www.waze.com/download
  • Hasn't been updated in a long time. I use it fairly often and it seems that it's losing functionality over time, I guess as Waze makes changes to the backend. It's a headache to use as is.
  • I was devastated when I found out google was buying Waze. I stopped using it after they bought it. I was even part of the beta. Waze was gung-ho on developing it and then google halted all development on WP.
  • Holy crappola! Obviously driven by development of a Universal W10 app. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I think MS has a role in this. Whatever the reason though, it's great to see it come back to Windows
  • maybe ms told them they would close their bank accounts with boa if they didnt make an app.
  • I've always wondered why banks in large countries, with customers numbering in the millions couldn't be bothered with having a Windows Phone app, when most banks in my small country of 5,5 million do...
  • Because management is stupid, they can afforat few hundred million in CEO salary but cannot affort couple of programs for windows phone.
  • I heard that they removed the app because they didn't want to pay for another year of support of it when they knew they were going to build a Universal Windows 10 app that could work everywhere in the ecosystem. I don't know the details but I know sources close to the matter...

  • Yes, I believe it has more to do with BOA retiring their sitekey security and not wanting to rebuild one of the more significant parts of the app on an old code base.  I'm pretty sure all the ATM's are running .Net now/in the future.  So it's not like it's completely starting from scratch.
  • So basically app store will be with out BOA app for one year(as we don't know when new app will be released). I am sorry that is not a good justification. If you are this major corporation and pushing your customers to use online services, you better support them on as many platformas as you can.
  • Doesn't say how long, could be one month.
  • That's the same question that puzzles me. Here in Canada, Royal Bank have both a phone and tablet versions of their app for sometime now, and I know for sure our numbers are not even close to the numbers of users like in the United States. Hopefully they update to windows 10.
  • My has 10, and most banks have WP apps.
  • Because it isn't cool to be I involved with Microsoft. Hopefully that sentiment is changing.
  • Opps, too late, people moved on from BOA. Still welcome news.
  • Now imagine how much ill will they could've avoided had they announced they were building a universal Windows 10 app instead when they shut down the Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 one.
  • Man the last few days have been awesome. I hope this becomes a new trend, love the platform and want it to continue
  • Good news guys
  • I just sent an email to US Bank suggestions this morning, because having to wait this long is absurd.
  • Two years ago I closed my U.S. Bank of 14 years telling them the reason I was leaving was because they don't have a Windows Phone app and that Bank of America did, so I was switching over my account. Then the joke was on me because I only got to use the Bank of America W indows Phone app for like a year before they closed it on me. Now I might be exonerated again.

  • Ill switch to b of a if chase doesn't follow suit soon
  • I just called Chase, mentioned with the profits Jamie Dimon is making they could surely afford to have an app on all platforms? even asked what type of CPU OS they're using, Windows or Mac? Obviously they replied Microsoft.
The rep claims one is on the way, which are just words at this point.
The bad part is BofA closed all branches within 150 miles of me recently
  • Figured everyone would jump on board with UWP. "What? We can have one app to reach all those Windows 10 users....oh and Windows Phones too..." Probably their thinking...
  • If that's what it takes that's fine by me as long as they do make the app
  • That's the selling point.
  • Ahhhhhh!!! Wooohoooo
  • Chase better have an app for me I mean us :)
  • Did u call and ask? It helps US all
  • Wonderful news.  Love it when a plan comes together.
  • ☺☺☺☺☺
  • Come on BB&T and Capital One
  • Thank you sweet baby Jesus!
  • Finally, been missing this. The sooner, the better...
  • ****, we got some progress!!
  • BoA is coming back!
  • Chase, it's your turn.
  • Hope this makes Chase and other banks aware. If they will not come with an app then Bank of Amerika will be my bank, they can bank on that :).
  • Chase will do just because BoA are doing so.
  • lets hope for the best :)
  • Callllll and let them know how you feel. they're profits are RIDICULOUS, Chase can afford it
  • Maybe this w10 will work
  • That smile after reading the headline. About time b***h.
  • Haha.
Now if only pnc can stop being jerks
  • Great!
  • Lucky me. One of the few WP users who stuck with BoA and the waiting's finally about to pay off!
  • Oops I left BOA for Wells Fargo when they dropped the mobile app for windows
  • Good for you! I left them as well.
  • Now we know why they are closing down apps on windows phone 8.1 It made perfect sense in the beginning.  glad i wasnt one of the whiners who killed a few brain cells that day.
  • Haha yup. I even commented this at the time. I get why ppl were initially frustrated though. But we had the mobile webpage in the meantime
  • No, it was market share...and marketing...and US focus...and market share again. Hahahaha...all the fake MBAs are being proven wrong!
  • It was still short sighted of them. Why did they removed the current one without an option for users in between? They fully intended to abandon it.
  • If that was the plan from the beginning, they should've mentioned it to keep people from jumping off ledges.
  • Knew it
  • Be nice for some UK banks to follow... still god news for the platform !!
  • Yeah, one in particular......Santander.
  • LOL,DUMB *****
  • i am going to die hearing this news :P
  • Every time I visit and get told, you can use our mobile app for that.... I respond with I could if you had a Windows phone version.
  • Yo Citi...... You're so shi**y!
  • Do you mean Chase?  Because there's a Citi app.
  • So my snarky email in response to their "Save time with the new features in our Mobile Banking app‏" email had an effect. HA!
  • Now lets see if Chase follows ;)
  • Perhaps you want them to Chase after what BoA is doing?
  • Great news :)
  • Sweet, been waiting on this!
  • Aaaaand herewe go! What a few days it has been. From months of bad app news - a hearbeat!
  • Thank god! I just spoke to someone that told me her husband is a Windows Phone fan and has been trying to convert her. She won't budge, but was cool to hear.
  • Yea I was just about to flip my wife away from an iPhone this Christmas until BoA dropped WP.  At that point, even I wouldn't recommend she move.  She uses the app every day.   I bought her a new 6S for Christmas.   Maybe in a a year or two it will be a more realistic option for her
  • Look who's back. Yay yay yay! How about that naysayers? Maybe it wasn't apparent to us but maybe the software service providers always knew where Microsoft was getting at with its one core and universal apps mantra. But with Windows 8/WP8.1 it just wasn't feasible for them to spend expenditure on a platform which was neither popular among desktop market nor among smartphone market. Windows 10 making grounds with PC users at least has made me hopeful. Let's do this.
  • It's raining Apps!!!!
  • Anytime now Capital One 360....
  • I remember saying months ago about how they would obviously come back when W10 hits and explained how security on these apps have to be maintained and yada yada, but the trolls were out in full force with "but dah appz are flops. No one use Windows". I mean seriously, was it not obvious that this app would be back?
  • I can agree with this, many of the app withdrawls over the past 4-8 months quite possibly were the developer killing windows 8.1 support in favor of universal apps on windows 10. The large influx of apps over the past 2 weeks make it seem that way. Hopefully more apps jump on board.
  • We need Service credit union next
  • Great!
  • Is there a list of us banks that support Windows phone?
  • The only ones I know of is Wells Fargo and Ally.
  • I always take twitter responses with a grain of salt.. While some are legitimate, others seem to be the social media teams not having a clue or just telling someone what they want to hear to shut them up....
  • Go **** yourselves
  • Now lets pressurize Chase's twitter feed with this news and get them to develop one app for W10M too!
  • Glad to hear this. I use Ally, great app. But my fiancée and brother use Chase and that app was pulled early this year. Banking apps are a big problem for the platform. Would be nice to see Bank of America maybe start a universal app. Maybe the others would follow. The Surface line success has to be helping in this regard.
  • I think it's also Windows 10 in general not just the Surface line.  I also opened an Ally account in response to Chase's decision earlier this year and I'm really enjoying it.  I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't require physical branches.
  • That's really great news!  They could build a Smartphone with specs that triple that of iPhone or Galaxy.  But if a users important apps and services are not available, it's just an expensive flip phone.
  • This deserves a Marv Albert YES!
  • Thank goodness
  • I moved on to new relationship Boa. But I'm glad to see you're interested in me again.
  • Just felt the whole app-gap situation shift winds.....you guys feel that?
  • Still waiting on TD bank's app and even so you can just go on the internet icon and login that way
  • It"s a US only bank app pain. All the Dutch banks in the Netherlands have bank apps.
  • Excellent! If they do, I'm done with Chase!
  • The headline should have it's, not its.
  • Good news for those who bank with them. I'm not a fan of boa. Today I called my local credit union that I bank with and complained to them why they don't have an app for the Windows Phone and that not everyone uses android or ios. He "agreed" and will "notate that". Not holding my breath.
  • Please be true!!
  • I'm not with bank of America but great news
  • Time to admit you were wrong and giddy up Chase...
  • i use the desktop version of the bank of america website as the mobile site doesn't work well with windows phone ... i will be happier if they release an app again but i can get by with the website.
  • YES!!! The Bank of America app was beautiful on my Lumia 1020.   I also hope that they produce a mobile version.  I won't be using the PC version.
  • Awesome regaining some lost ground.
  • That's good news :)
  • I figured they'd be back., which is why I still bank with them. Windows is here to stay, and the platform will grow.
With BoA back in the fold, that just leaves Chase. Then all the banking apps I need will be on W10/M.
  • The text of the article has the phrase, a big U.S. bank. My bank IS USBank. I got really excited, then I read it. Then I was bummed, heh.
  • So when everyone flipped out it was over nothing. I knew they'd come back and here they are. Others will, too. It's different this time because of the influence of Windows 10. Thank you Windows 10.
  • No one can stay in the dark side forever...
  • Good news for those still with them. Too late for me as I moved on and opened up a secondary credit union account to replace them. Couldn't be happier without them and their greed. But they are one of the players that *need* to be on the platform -- hope sooner than later for the uwp app.
  • Screw em! I'll never bank with them!!!
  • And I dropped them a year ago and switched to ally. Never going back
  • Victory!
  • It'd be nice to see an app from Discover. Unfortunately, they're still saying they have no plans to do so but will forward my interest on. I'd also like to hear from Chase too.
  • They might just get my business again. We'll see.

  • Yasss!!!
  • ***G A S P*** Get. Out! (Hard Shove) =o
  • What happened to the TD Bank app? They made one for Canada and said a US version would be coming soon.
  • That would be really nice to have. I used the "deposit checks" option often enough, but can't do that through the website.
  • With this I'm hoping more will start to come in "td bank" I'm hoping for
  • I'm curious already what bank of America's plan with windows 10 app support 2 years down the line and why they thought of coming back in windows 10. They have not shown the greatest support for windows in past. Surely success van not be the sole argument to get back to windows. Meanwhile my reference it's the ING a major bank in the Netherlands and internationally that had shown great support in windows 8 and phone 8.x and is still going strong in my experience.
  • It won't get me back to BoA. When they dropped the App, I dropped them. Ally has been great. They have earned my trust and loyalty. BoA apparently cared about neither.
  • My Bolivian bank has one, I always thought that it's a shame that bigger and more resourceful American banks can't offer one too.
  • Why American want bank app so much? I don't care bout bank apps in my Andy phone. And for sure I will not use bank app in W10M phone if I have one. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • BofA new app: https://www.bankofamerica.com/mobile/banking.go
  • This and NPR, great announcements.
  • TotalFAG.
  • https://twitter.com/BofA_Help/status/655428039027855360 For the future mobile payment app to work.  Banks have to make an app to support it.  Same reply from two months ago
  • I can't wait for a web wrapper with a UAP sprinkle on top (just like deveinart)
  • After taking their app off of previous builds because the market was too small and not worth their time all I have to say is FUCKyouBOA youCOCKSUCKINGmotherFUCKER!
  •   Good news indeed.
  • I'm glad we are seeing another Bank go back into the Windows Phone realm.  USAA looks like they also ported their WM app to Windows 10.  They could have just left it alone at WM and let the laptop/tablet users continue to access via Web.
