New Call of Cthulhu footage is filled with shady characters

Call of Cthulhu is a game inspired by Chaosium's classic pen and paper adventure. Today, the developer released a new trailer for Gamescom 2018 which gives us a better look at this dark role-playing gameplay. According to Cyanide Studio, players uncover chilling mysteries, descending deep into a world of cosmic horrors, creeping madness, and shrouded "Old Gods" within Lovecraft's iconic universe.

The plot follows Private Investigator Edward Pierce as he is sent to evaluate the tragic death of the Hawkins family in their imposing mansion. Everyone has been slaughtered! The mansion is located on the dangerous "Darkwater Island", just off the coast of Massachusetts. Between unhelpful locals and questionable police reports, it becomes clear that there's more to the case than what's being let on. The trail leads Pierce to a terrifying world of conspiracies.

In this world, nothing is as it seems. Strange monsters, fringe science, and shadowy cults dominate the Cthulhu universe. These individuals are intent on realizing their bizarre schemes to bring about the end of days. The developer said that your mind will suffer, balancing a line between sanity and madness. You can't trust anyone because you can't let Cthulhu awaken from his eternal dream to wreck havoc on humanity.

Call of Cthulhu is currently available for preorder on Xbox One for $59.99. The game was scheduled to launch in 2017, but was pushed back to October 30, 2018.
