What you need to know
- CD Projekt RED took to Twitter on Monday to announce a stream discussing Cyberpunk 2077.
- Many players immediately speculated the stream would be about Cyberpunk 2077's long-promised current-gen console update.
- Reported leaks from the Microsoft Store corroborate these speculations, with Xbox Series X|S preemptively showing Cyberpunk 2077 as Optimized for some players.
- The Cyberpunk 2077 stream will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. CET.
One of the best ways to experience CD Projekt RED's highly ambitious sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is on a current-gen console like Xbox Series X|S, but the game still doesn't take full advantage of the powerful hardware on offer. An update to optimize Cyberpunk 2077 for current-gen consoles has been in the works for months, but no release date has been revealed, much to the chagrin of players.
On Monday, CD Projekt RED revealed it would host a Cyberpunk 2077-focused stream the following day, with little additional information available. Immediately, speculation among the community ran rampant, with many asserting the stream would finally share details on Cyberpunk 2077's update for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PS5. Reported leaks hailing from the Microsoft Store and Xbox Series X|S consoles appear to confirm these rumors.
As revealed by The Verge senior editor Tom Warren on Twitter, some Xbox Series X|S users are now seeing Cyberpunk 2077 appear as "Optimized" for the current-gen consoles, despite no new update releasing for the title and no changes being observed. This, combined with CDPR's not-so-subtle response, indicates that Cyberpunk 2077's long-awaited current-gen update is not only ready to be shown off by CD Projekt RED, but may actually be right around the corner from release.
Of course, this all remains conjecture until CD Projekt RED confirms (or doesn't confirm) the news during tomorrow's stream. It's worth mentioning that we here at Windows Central were not able to see Cyberpunk 2077's "Xbox Series X|S Optimized" tag either on Xbox Series X|S or online. Whatever the case, we don't have long to wait. CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk 2077 stream airs on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. CET, and can be found on Twitch.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a complicated game with a convoluted past, but can still be one of the best Xbox games for fans of epic RPG fans playing on Xbox Series X|S or PC. With a potential current-gen upgrade releasing in the near future, Cyberpunk 2077 may get even better.
A dark and gritty world
An epic RPG.
Cyberpunk 2077 is the latest project from CD Projekt RED, the developer behind the Witcher 3. To follow up the game that defined a generation of gaming, Cyberpunk 2077 needed to be huge, ambitious, and captivating. Cyberpunk 2077 is far from perfect, but it is a monumental achievement in many aspects.

Bought it when it went on sale. Won’t fire it up until the next gen version releases. I believe in CDPR.
Same. Got it on the cheap, waiting for the update.
I should have gotten refunded and then got the sale, but by the time I decided to do that, they ended the refunds. Oh well.
I lucked out and never had any issues on my Series X. I only got about halfway through the game before I got too busy to keep playing though. This update will be a nice excuse to get back into it once I have some free time though.
Good game. Finally console users will play it the way it was meant to be played, like us played it in PC.
I just don't care any more, it had its moment but I have no reason to revisit it.
