What you need to know

  • Destiny 2 Weapons Feature Lead Chris Proctor has confirmed that Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will have 42 new Legendary weapons while speaking on the Destiny Massive Breakdowns podcast.
  • This is 12 more weapons than what was included in the previous expansion, Beyond Light.
  • All 42 of these weapons are completely new and aren't reissued versions of old weapons, though we expect there will be reissued weapons in the DLC as well.

For awhile now, many Destiny fans have been curious about the number of new weapons that will be added to the game's loot pools once the Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion launches on Feb. 22. Thanks to Episode 247 of the Destiny Massive Breakdowns podcast, we finally have an answer: according to Destiny 2's Weapons Feature Lead Chris Proctor, there are 42 new Legendary weapons coming with The Witch Queen.

That's 12 more weapons than what the previous Destiny 2 expansion, Beyond Light, brought to the table. This is great news, as more new weapons give players a wider variety of options when putting together one of the best Destiny 2 builds. Many of these weapons will likely also be compatible with the weapon crafting system that's coming with The Witch Queen, which will allow players to tweak weapon perks, traits, and stats.

If you're concerned that some of these weapons will just be reissued versions of old guns from previous seasons and expansions, don't be. According to Proctor, all 42 of these weapons are new, though there will be some reissued weapons as well (The Summoner Auto Rifle from Trials of Osiris, for example, is making a return). We probably won't learn what types of weapons these are until the DLC goes live, but we're expecting a good mix of all of Destiny 2's weapon classes.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is slated to release on Feb. 22, 2022 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PS4, PC, and Stadia. The Standard Edition of the expansion costs $40, though there are also more expensive versions available that come with unique bonuses like physical collectibles and exclusive pieces of in-game content. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen preorders are live now, so you can purchase whichever edition of the DLC you want ahead of its release.
