Destiny 2's The Dawning event has officially gone live, and all Destiny 2 players can participate for free regardless of whichever expansion packs or season passes they own. The event runs until January 14, and during the event, players will have the opportunity to earn holiday-themed rewards by completing Dawning bounties and baking cookies to give to various NPCs throughout the in-game universe.

There's a ton of new loot to earn in this year's The Dawning event. Players can "bake" the new Submachine Gun, the Cold Front, by making cookies for NPCs with Eva Levante; in addition to that, you can also get the Avalanche Machine Gun from last year again, which is great if you missed the previous opportunity or want to try and get better perk rolls on yours.

The fun doesn't end there, however. There are three new sets of armor ornaments available, one for each Guardian class, as well as a slew of holiday-themed Sparrows, Ships, Ghost Shells, and Emotes. All of these are sold in the Eververse store, but thankfully, almost all of the items can be purchased with Bright Dust, which you can farm by completing daily and weekly Dawning bounties. There's only one item that's exclusively available with the microtransaction currency Silver: The Perfect Ten finisher move. If you wish, you can use Silver to get the rest of the event's items, but you don't have to.

Your thoughts

What do you think of this year's iteration of The Dawning? Personally, I think the new loot is awesome, and I'm looking forward to earning all of the new goodies.

Destiny 2 is available for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The latest expansion, Shadowkeep, is available for $35 on all platforms.
