The Division's closed beta test has been extended

Ubisoft launched a beta test for Tom Clancy's The Division this past week. The studio's ambitious RPG shooter has seen unprecedented demand, garnering positive assessments across major outlets and social media alike.

Only those who pre-order the game are guaranteed access at present, but Ubisoft has extended the beta test for an additional day to accommodate people who signed up to the waiting list.

Speaking on their official forum, a Ubisoft representative hailed interest in the game, explaining that invites would go out to users on the waiting list in chronological order:

Over the last few days, we've seen an incredible amount of excitement for the game, leading to many of you registering on the waitlist for a chance to join our Closed Beta. We've been working very hard to let as many players as possible join, while still maintaining a smooth experience for everyone.Earlier today, we announced that we were now inviting as many players as possible from the waitlist, in addition to those who had guaranteed pre-order access. We've started sending invites, with priority given to those who signed up first. In order to allow everyone who has access to fully enjoy the Beta, we're happy to announce we're extending the duration by 24h for all players. As a result servers will remain open until Tuesday, February 2nd, 12pm CET | 6 am EST | 3 am PST.Thank you all for your amazing support!

I'm working on a preview of The Division based on my experiences in the beta, but I'm reasonably confident Ubisoft have a hit on their hands. The RPG systems are deep, the gameplay is polished and rewarding, and the Darkzone PVP is quite tense and unique. Whether or not the full game delivers on the hype remains to be seen, but so far, all signs are very positive.

You can sign up for the beta waiting list over here, by selecting "Join the waiting list", or by pre-ordering.

If you've experienced The Division, what are your thoughts so far? Let us know in the comments.

The Division launches on March 8th, 2016 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

  • March 8th can't come soon enough!
  • Ditto!
  • Agreed!
  • I'll be sleepless for so many nights when it finally releases.
  • Very pleased with the beta, though the content has been way too easy. Still, I stopped playing because I'm sold on the game and don't want to spoil it.
  • Still waiting... That email they sent me was like saying ?sorry but since you didn't preorder, good luck getting in"...
  • On Ps4 the cutscene quality is not that good and the world seems empty it might be because it is beta and they cut alot of content away but it makes me worry that this game might be another Ubisoft over hyped games. Also the main online feature is like playing DayZ whit four friends and killing and stealing booty from the virus zone and its hard to review since the skill trees are only limited to 5 skills and they show you sneekpeak what skills there are.
  • Cut scenes are MW 3 quality not that good at all and I didn't see much difference since the alpha. Well I cancelled my pre order maybe get it on holidays when on sale.
  • You cancelled your pre-order because of cut scenes?
  • I'll go ahead and say you're just not interested in the game and making things up to sound like you're being edgy and intelligent.
  • Wait, what are you expecting? It's a game in which there's a medical emergency ravaging the city. There have likely been mass evacuations, riots, and destruction. It's also snowing and generally a cold environment. Why would you expect there to be a bunch of people on the streets?
  • Played the beta...ehh. I feel like I've played this game before, what was it called...Gears of War? No wait...Destiny? No, wait...Call of Duty? Seemed kinda boring to me. Looks and plays good though, just...ehh.
  • CoD is MMORPG? :O I lived in a lie ! /s Now seriously, I played the beta and frankly it feels like something new, shooter that is more RPG than shooter. I like it.
  • Well, then I'm guessing you haven't played any of those games for more than 8 seconds, because if you think that quartet is comparable beyond having guns, then the nicest thing I can call you is drunkenly naive. This is just generic, anti-shooter trolling, nothing more.
  • Yeah... I completely agree, at least on the Destiny comparison. It is still very early and we have probably just seen about 1% of what the game has to offer, but the hours I have spent in this game doesn't feel unique at all. It basically feels like Destiny with narrower environments and a GoW-cover mechanic.
  • I thought it felt alot like Destiny too.
  • I am loving it on PC. A triple A game with proper PC features from day one like multi-gpu is refreshing.
  • W3366-M4Q73-YKJ6M-PX9KF-TYTFZ - Xbox one
  • It has potential. They're are parts that piss me off, like unloading a full AK magazine into a thug in a sweater. And then him killing me with a pistol. Not enough enemy variety, they are all the same just with different armor and guns. Just not enough enemies altogether. I spend most of the time just running around not doing anything. I HATE menus that have solid outlines of weapons instead of a fully detailed pic. The items you pick up don't match up with what they do. A soda increases your damage? Energy bar gets rid of all illnesses? Also, on a small note, the SCAR's stock folds over on real life, but not in the game. But mainly, more variety in the types of enemies. If they are all just people with different armor and guns, it's going to be a very boring game.
Life I said though, it has potential. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I agree that the enemy variety is lacking, but remember this is also and MMO, and you're in the low-level zones. Also, the AK is a notoriously inaccurate gun in every shooter it's been a part of. You're not unloading it into a guy, you're full-auto firing it and hoping to hit him. I can take the starter assault rifle (I think an M6 or M9 or something), and get a kill in 5-10 shots, meaning I can take down 2-3 guys with a clip, depending on the situation and my willingness to go for precision over quick firing to suppress the enemy. Why you care about having a tiny image of a weapon is confusing, by the way, though the menus are a bit unpleasant (but not terrible). Soda doesn't increase damage, I'm pretty sure it increases ability refresh rate or something like that. If you care for character models over gameplay, I don't know what to say. I agree they're bland and redundant, but the game plays well enough, and encounters are short enough, that I just don't care about that. I care much more about quality of AI (which is my largest complaint of the beta), and the general lack of difficulty.
  • I put AK because it was easier to type, AR and SCAR do the same. The point is I am watching me hit this guy multiple times, as the numbers pop up, and he turns, bang bang with a pistol while in being cover and I'm dead. You're getting too literal with the items, I was saying that the items don't match with what they do. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • You choose specifics, I comment on the words you speak, and I'm being too literal? I guess sorry that I can't read your mind through the text you put. Like I said, this is not what I've experienced. I've been using the first AR you get the whole time, I threw on a scope and a silencer (I think something else I can't recall as well), and I can almost always get a kill in less than half a clip. The enemy thing, use a medkit or something. As for being shot while in cover, I just call B.S. I've played through to level 8, and the ONLY times I've been hit while in cover are when blind firing (meaning I've got my arm exposed). I can use the pistol and get 2 kills with one 15-round clip inside of 50 feet, if I bother to aim. Your complaints legitimately sound like you're being reckless and lazy with your tactics, and you're complaining that the game is punishing you for it, rather than letting you be the typical bullet sponge of a shooter. Your health doesn't regen to 100% like in CoD, Halo, or Gears.
  • Dude, I can't take it any more, it's a magazine! Not a clip! A clip is the piece of metal that 10 rounds are CLIPPED to when in the box you buy at the store. A MAGAZINE is what the bullets get loaded into that in turn gets loaded into the gun.
But, I do like where the game is going and will probably buy it when it comes out. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Clip.
  • Ahhhhhh! Ha! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I'm not a fan of head shots being pretty much worthless. It's a bit like destiny in that sense.
  • But they are not. They crit and do double the damage.
  • A good 5-6 shots to the head with an automatic rifle doing not much, isn't a good mechanic. Especially when it's on humans. I understand it's a difficulty thing, but it's not for me.
  • Enjoying it so far, I just need to figure out the DZ part of it.  Will be nice to have everything opened up on release.
  • I try to extract items and some A Hole always kills me, must have support with team members. I love the dark zone
  • Same here, also really gets annoying how a guy with a golf club can survive full clips from all three of my guns and hit me with one swing and I die...
  • Yep! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Haaaa..I will pass, Ubi$ofts support of R6:Siege has been lacking and this will be no different.....don't keep feeding the trolls. Save my $
  • I enjoyed it a lot! Although people are lacking in the open world. The first mission played very well with multiple enemies and different situations. I can see it being a hit. I just hope they have more then 12 hours of story like most shooters and lean more to the rpg 30-60 hours of single player. I could see myself running through it more than once to give it a different feels with guns. The dark zone is amazing. Tough but unlike anything else I have played. I hope there are more enemies in the dark zone like multiple bosses and armies of thugs with flamethrowers for the masses to take down together and then get shot in the back as we are trying to extract loot. It's so challenging its a winner.
  • Got a invite via Xbox One........ waiting list? What? Anyways, enjoyed the Beta, will probably pre-order now!
  • My only problem with the beta was that I just didn't know what to do?! I was running around the whole time collecting things and killing some enemies (if I could find some). The dark zone also didn't make a huge difference. Collecting some stuff und killing some enemies. The only difference was that you could kill other players there but then you were a bunny that was hunted in a cave. Can someone please tell me what's the primary goal in this game?
  • Look at the map, there is a yellow blinking dot, get there... The story picks up once you get there...
  • Yeah in the DZ I had no idea what the objective was.  Only saw other players running around here and there and they weren't really doing much.  A few enemy AI would pop up and that was about it. Maybe DZ was bugged for me.  For missions outside of DZ just check your map.
  • I was in the last 2 betas on this Game, It's pretty awesome, good story line and pleny of adventure. I am about 90% sure I am going to grab it when it's released. Before the beta I was about 24-35% sure I was going to buy it (waiting for reviews) If this is a "maybe" thing for you, see if you can get a beta key, it's a good thing to try it out, as most controls and settings should be final or close to final, it's a real demo or trial for sure but, with a lot more content then a 1 level demo. I'll have to get on tonight...Last night to play :-\
  • I thought the Division got tedious after a couple hours of playing especially the dz. The rogue element ruins the game for me. You get shot at but manage to kill the person who shot you and you are the one that goes rogue. I see alot of problems with that aspect of the game. I cancelled my preorder and I'll wait on the reviews. If the campaign is long enough then I might pick it up later.
  • I just home they will let us keep our leveled up characters and all the loot from BETA to full game.
