Dumbbell Workouts, a Windows Phone free-weight exercise database

Dumbbell Workouts is a handy Windows Phone app for those who are looking for an easy way to tone muscle groups using the free weight dumbbells. The app is a small collection of exercises that can be useful for those who choose to workout from a home gym or for those who have active memberships at a formal gym setting. In addition to the dumbbell exercises, Dumbbell Workouts also contains a few dumbbell-free exercises designed to firm up your abs and butt.

Dumbbell Workout has a straightforward layout and can help you make the most of Fitness Month. It's a nice Windows Phone app, probably more appealing to someone just starting out on the fitness path looking for an exercise regiment.

Dumbbell Workouts Layout

Dumbbell Workouts is a collection of exercises designed to use with free weights or dumbbells. The main pages for Dumbbell Workouts includes:

  • All in One Page: A tiled page that gives you access to the exercise database based on the area of your body you want to work out.
  • 20 Minute Abs: A collection of exercises designed to work your abdominal muscles.
  • The Best Butt Workouts: Should be self-explanatory.
  • About Page
  • More Apps Page: A collection of links to other Windows Phone apps from the developer.

The muscle groups available include biceps, chest, shoulders, back, triceps and leg exercises. When you tap a muscle group a collection of exercises will be displayed and in tapping a specific exercise will display a "how-to" page for that exercise.

These pages will have an animated illustration on how to perform the exercise and a step-by-step guide on performing the exercise. Collectively, the All in One page has twenty exercises designed for dumbbell weights.

The 20 Minute Abs page contains seven exercises designed to work you ab muscles and the Best Butt Workout includes seven routines to firm up your backside. These exercises appear to not require any dumbbell weights.

Overall Impression

Dumbbell Workouts is a very basic fitness app that is available for Windows Phone 8. It lacks any workout history tracking, timers or other features to help you manage your gym sessions. The collection of exercises the app does offer is a little on the short side but strong enough to get you started in the right direction.

I'm not sure how useful Dumbbell Workouts would be for a seasoned gym rat but someone with less experience should find it helpful. Just don't be surprised if you find yourself moving to a more advanced Windows Phone fitness app after a few weeks or use Dumbbell Workouts as a supplemental app to one that does have the workout history tracking, timers and other tools for managing your gym trips.

  • Awesome!! I'm stoked about this! New apps are like Christmas for us Windows Phone users ;)
  • Does anyone have a tip to a good interval app for WP8? I need one where I can customize and plot in my own program. E.g. duration (warm up, high / low intensity ) counts and more. Ideally also with a sound notification so that you know when to switch. The closest I have found is an app called: Xtreme tabata. Visually it is nice and does mostly what I want. Unfurtunally it is a WP7 app and is unable to run in the background (quite painful for an app like this). It also have not been updated since Sept. 2012 so I guess its abandoned a long time a go..
  • I've been using this app for a month now instead of dumbbells. :D
