Facebook app is back to the old version for Windows 10 Mobile users

Microsoft has apparently pulled the recently-released Facebook app made for Windows 10 Mobile. The 10.1 version of the app was available to download earlier this week from the Windows Store, but it has now been replaced with the old 8.3.7.0 version that also works with Windows Phone 8.1

It's more than likely that Microsoft jumped the gun a bit on releasing the Facebook app for Windows 10 Mobile. If you still have the 10.1 version installed on your phone, you may want to keep it for a while as users are reporting that if they delete and then redownload the app they now get the older 8.3.7.0 version.

Thanks to Bagsy for the tip!

  • The old one is better, the new one is just shit.
  • why must you sully the comments with such dirty language..? At least ease into it and let a couple of comments fill in first. =\
  • Well the fb app wasn't well furnished and featureless .!, no trending posts column, no birthday wishing specific page and also it redirects you to browser on opening of links .! if Microsoft pulls the app and gets a better full fledged ver. Later. , it aint a loss then better be it :)
  • Facebook are already working on an official universal app so I wouldn't worry.
  • No they aren't Microsoft is actually making it....and that was the dam app!
  • damned*
  • MS are developing the WP version but FB are working on a universal version
  • No, I had the beta which says by Facebook Inc. Facebook also recently announced that they are all in on Windows 10.
  • I know Windows 10 is trying to do something different, but Facebook is one appI wish more like the iOS and Android versions. Just a better layout, and more polished.
  • I have noticed it redirects to the browser when I click on a notification from any of the groups i have joined
  • i am totally with you, Media Castle!
  • I wished there was a way to report/flag comments that none of us want
  • You click on the little triangle with an exclaimation mark on the right >
  • Not many liked that version so they removed it for good
  • lol thats stupid it was so much better even for update.... it was faster........ and the videos were awesome... it was the first time on any device i said i liked the facebook app it didnt consume much battery either....
    they shouldn't remove it :(
  • I dont use fuckbook because I have a life.
  • But you're here.
  • Lol Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Only a Sith deals in absolutes
  • That's not the same thing as Facebook.
  • Haha yeah Fuckbook and Facebook are different. He has a life but he's obviously surfing the forums and posting. Must be a boring life. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Actually the new one is much better as far as showing relevent posts. The old one showed me old news and never really showed me thongs I seen on my browser Facebook and my wife's iOS device. The new one does need improvment but to say it's crap....
  • Well for me, it says"syncing error" every time and is damn slow!
  • Same here. It was slow as molasses and every single time I opened it I got that error, had to wait and refresh manually. I'm guessing they removed it to fix that and other bugs.
  • I know it's a typo, but still, lol, thongs :D
  • Why were you searching for 'thongs' on facebook?? lolll :D jk, I know it's a typo.
  • I'll be happy If I get an app for Quora instead of face book :(
  • Yes, it is faster, arguably better looking, it has more features like actionable notifications, it adapts for continuum (at least it should), it has many bugs fixed and italian translation is far better, we can still install the beta one.
  • Both are just shit
  • I don't know what you mean by that. The new one is the same as the old one (if not better), only with the Windows 10's UI elements. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • No way! Outlook thing again?
  • Stay tuned. They may also scrap Windows 10 and go back to 7.
  • Or scrap Groove Music and bring back Zune
  • Come on all they have done is for us...chill bros:D
  • I agree. They have done a lot of good and it's for us. They could have said screw WP cause its a waste of money but no they stuck it out for us WP fans. I think they're doing great. Also remember these are all in beta and not fully released since windows 10 is only in beta. You can choose to stay on 8.1 until official launch. Then people wonder why windows phone has bad rep.. These so called fans always put it down even when its actually good but you refuse to accept change. Get over it. Don't like it? Grab a lagdroid.
  • No more a beta. People have their flgships in their hands now. Please, this lame BETA excuse of windows has been a reason for poor user experience. Atleast, with people now having flagships in their hands, the OS should be rather tagged as public with feature-incomplete/missing
  • Until I recently updated to windows 10 Mobile, Cortana was still in beta on 8.1, last time I checked.
  • yea with version 10586.10 yea this is the RTM we think
and yea ITS DAMN AWESOME. bugfreee FAST and has better features tha windows 8.1
and the goddamn skype interogation is awesome and so fucking comfortable no one can go back to windows 8,1 :3
accept the change actually its a great change. greath phones ffs all of you ppl.
some good funs this phones have....
  • Agreed 100% Vadim
  • Which Windows 10 is still in beta, the desktop version released months ago or the version just released on new phones? I guess this is going to be the standard excuse now for the poor quality of Windows 10 in general.....
  • Exactly my point
  • They did not stick around for fans. They are sticking around because they want to make sales and become a hardware company like Apple. They couldn't care less about fans.
  • @Vadim If that's a reply for me then I'd like to tell you that you're not alone. Like you I have also backlashed many negative commenters on other forums such as WMPU and have been supported by many. I was actually being funny. I really respect Microsoft's hard work towards building the new platforms. And I consider myself a damn Android and iOS hater.
  • @Sabbath Of course they have.
  • I'd welcome that move. XD
  • Hahahha
  • I quite liked the new one. I am still keeping it
  • Agreed
  • I've been running the 10.0 beta ever since I switched to W10M Build 10581. Works better than the 8.x beta and non-beta versions.   However, last night my wife noticed this new load of bull Facebook is trying to pull: add more friends to view more posts. She got the message on web FB as well. Seriously, FB? Now we have to add random strangers just to read posts from the people we actually do care to hear from? FB was so much better when Most Recent was the only post order.
  • I'm keeping it too, at least this time clicking on the notification in action center takes me to actual frickin notification on FB.
  • Windows Phone, 1 step forward, 3 steps back.  I gave it a shot twice, Microsoft seems unable to compete in this market.
  • It has taken a step back because Facebook is still developing the app for a platform that has literally released officially? You make no sense.
  • Couldn't have said it better. You'll come crawling back when it's done and is better than others.
  • the latest build is already better ;)
  • Except Microsoft is not competing in said market. They are planning on eliminating the lines between mobile, home, office, etc. with Windows 10. The change will take time but when all is said and done, Microsoft is going to have a bright future that will make iOS and Android seem like ancient history.
  • Well if you enjoy the new look just download the beta until they lunch it again. Now all we need a this lame ass Windows Central app to update.
  • Agree!!!
  • Agree. Such horrendous text rendering in this app. Yuck!
  • well cant find the beta now... i hope they put it back sometime :3
  • Not a bad call. If the FB and Messenger apps are somehow tied together that explains why notifications were pouring in with delays ever since I installed v10 of the FB app.
  • Okay
  • because... "coming soon" *shaking head* its not easy remaining optimistic when using microsoft devices... and the apps that are (or arent) on them
  • Yep. Unbearable Posted via the Windows Central App for BlackBerry
  • Aww, that means when I get my Lumia 950 tomorrow I won't have the new Facebook app...
  • You can use the Beta one, pretty much the same.
  • Sadly expected- the new one is soooo freaking buggy with loading data
  • Probably because it was being run on an OS it wasn't meant to.
  • Its good that i read this
  • Maybe that Facebook beta (supposed iOS port) will be available for phones too.
  • The beta app looks like it's been pulled too, because on my Lumia 640 it is listed as "Not available for this device." I want to assume, for now, that they may be preparing to replace them with the official Facebook-built apps.
  • LOL,  you're seriously waiting for this?   Mark is too busy bringing internet to the world and will focus on the website and/or iOS/Droid.   They have nothing for WP.
  • Wow,you people have no idea , the Facebook app is built in collaboration with Microsoft
  • The current FB app is built by Microsoft with permission from Mark because Mark has no interest in WP and the way MS wanted to integrate FB into Mobile. The story goes that "Facebook will release a new Universal Windows app for Windows 10"   ;)    <---Note the wink. It's coming soon !! In the meantime; MS is still trying to polish the core  of Win10 and is passing off the mobile version as done. The Garage folks are cranking out a new  Forum and Bing app for iOS.   WP users are still here looking for phone, a completed mobile OS and feature-pack apps equivalent to iOS.  8)
  • Mark told you personally i believe..
  • I like the new one, although it needs improvement.. I wil keep the new one as it plays video better than the old one, has good animations too
  • The new one was a lot better. It had really cool actionable notifications that I use frequently. Hope I never have to flash my phone.
  • Motherf**ker, I'm getting the 950 tomorrow. S**t.
  • Get the beta, v10.0 which was more stable and worked as it should compared to 10.1 until they release fixes for some minor bugs.
  • The official release of W10 is not out yet, so we need to understand that such things happen
  • Thank goodness!!! I HATED the new one----text was tiny, never updated correctly, and could not even view half the posts. Going now to downgrade.
  • Will this app be developed by Facebook or Microsoft?
  • Both as it has been for a long time.
  • Not developed by both.
  • The current mobile Facebook app is made by Microsoft. The desktop app is made by Facebook, Inc. which is supposedly working on a universal version of the app.
  • 10.1 had a few issues I noticed compared to the current beta 10.0 like my cover photo not showing and loading the newsfeed slower than 10.0. There may have been other bugs but I uninstalled the stable 10.1 release and continued to use 10.0 beta as od today. Hopefully they get these issues ironed out as I sent a few crash reports and reported some od the issues I had faced. They didn't do this for no reason.
  • Live tile is not working here... Facebook 10.1 does not show the current cover picture, as previous versions did. :(
  • Had bugs. Prolly intended for final release of w10m
  • I sent in this tip over 12 hours ago.. :( how cone and my tips always get ignored?
  • 1st to tip is last on the list.  Please wait until 6am to tip :)
  • ;O)
  • I'm on the new version but it always says "unable to sync".
  • Fb app is probably the worst app in the store.
  • Phone restarts while making a call in this latest Windows 10 build...
  • What about using the forums?
  • not even close to posting this in the correct place...
  • New app Really sucks. Cannot save photos , cannot sync the calendar nor can be properly integrated with the phone, it is so so slow, and only shows like 5 or 6 post even if you do a refresh.
  • You can save photos but you have to use the ellipses to access the feature - you can't access the save feature via a long press like you should be able to. Nonetheless, the new version of the app should never have left beta status.
  • Keeping the new one here, I'm liking it
  • Probably they had to go back to 8.1 version in order to fix some bugs.
  • I noticed that since I updated to windows mobile 10586 (i think that's this new one) I pissed a side and it appeared 6 times as duplicates, this may have something to do with it
  • FB showed duplicates in my app list too. Now that I went back to the old version, it only shows once.
  • Let's hope they go back all the way to functional elegant fast People Hub.
  • This!
  • So are Facebook making a different app to this new one"??
  • Good. It doesn't sync contacts and besides I don't really use it.
  • Yea I did a hard reset after yesterdays update. I ended up downloading the beta again to get it back.
  • The desktop Facebook beta app isn't working on my SP3.
  • the new one is far better than the old one, trust me , i'm a very scroupoulos guy ( better animations, integrated video, faster and smother scrolling)
  • Just give us the beta back we had two days ago please at least it was better than what we have now, what a mess they have created.
  • The scrolling seems to be smooth, but moves way to fast for my liking.
  • ^This was problem for me too :/
  • But why?
  • This isn't particularly sad news to read.  When I saw a new version of Facebook was available, I was hoping for the Windows 10 UWP version.  I hoped for a cleaner interface, some new features, and a faster app all around. I did find a cleaner looking interface, but I wouldn't say that it was much of an improvement.  It added the style of a Windows 10 app, but the speed wasn't there, there weren't any new features, and it just felt like the same old app. I'm hoping that with pulling it, they are working on creating a better experience in the app.  I would like to see it really follow the design of the website when possible. I look at this app, and think to myself that aside for icon and minor style changes, I'm still looking at version 5 of the facebook app.  It's kind of reminding me of the reason I left iPhone after iOS 4, just pure bordem with the interface.
  • The beta felt like a beta. They warned about the performance and lack of features. Theeeen they released it.
  • This 10.1 was good, but little bit laggy in scrolling.
  • I like the new version even though it is still buggy. It definitely feels more modern and have some neat features.
  • Coming soon (TM) and removed later... XD
  • Good.... The new 10.1 version was giving the whole Music app fiasco in the 8.1 a good run for it's money....
  • The new version was actually usable. And exactly what I wanted
  • My contacts on the new Beta app have been synchronizing since I downloaded it...   The notifications need to be split so that you can select live tiles only.    Still needs a LOT of work for prime time.
  • I bet they release a shit version again with no features! Lol because that's what always happens.
  • But who is supposed to develop the app. I thought that Facebook would do the new one?
  • I thought its back Tu hub... #flyaway
  • JUST PORT THE IOS APP COME ON AND SOME UI TWEAKS AND THAT STUFF
  • That app they released was basically the beta. Slow to load comments, sync with windows was broken, most recent feed was broken and app crashed pretty frequently. That have to do better than that
  • I got the update on my Nokia Icon and then could not find it for the Nokia 1520 today. Now I know why. They still need to add a HOME BUTTON to every screen so you don't have to use the back button 1, 2 or 3 times when you are deep in a thread before you can get back to wear the HOME button shows up. :-/ I also didn't see an option to REPLY to people's comments within a thread like you can do with Facebook in the browser.
  • The new one is far more better. Stand alone and it shows all incoming updates.
  • On 10.0. Not sure when that loaded, but recently my timeline pretty much tanked. All my birthday posts to my timeline were/are not visible on Win 10 mobile, but perfectly visible on webpage. That's some broke there.
