What you need to know

  • Obsidian and Private Division announced the first story DLC for The Outer Worlds during the Xbox showcase.
  • Peril on Gorgon is set to release Sept. 9, 2020.
  • The DLC will cost $15 across consoles, but Xbox Game Pass users will receive a 10% discount.

The first of two story DLCs for the hit 2019 game The Outer Worlds was announced today at the Xbox showcase and promises a lot of new content for players looking to explore more of the Halcyon solar system.

Peril on Gorgon, which Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division describe as "a noir-tinged adventure" in a press release, will take place on the Gorgon Asteroid, a new location in the game, and will task the player to uncover the origins of Adrena-Time. For the unitiated, Adrena-Time is a consumable in the game that increases the player character's speed. Unfortunately, while you get 20% movement speed for 15 seconds, you'll also get an Adrena-Time Crash after it wears off. It's described in-game as "liquid caffeine with boosters."

Along with some story to pad out the narratively-rich and quirky world, the DLC will also introduce new weapons, armor, perks, and flaws. According to some new screenshots released, there will also be new enemies to fight and locales to explore. The screenshots also show that the good ol' Spacer's Choice will also be involved and that there's something called Project Gorgon that the player will learn about... and that some people might want to hide.

You can check out some more screenshots below.

The DLC was teased earlier this week with a tweet and a video message on the game's official website. That video, when played, reveals a new Spacer's Choice slogan: "On Gorgon, it's always… Adrena-Time." Another line below that reads, "Made with real Xenocyte waste!"

The DLC will be available on Sept. 9 for $15 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Players who bought the expansion pass will get it, along with the second DLC, which has yet to be announced, for $25. Xbox Game Pass users will also receive a 10% discount on the DLC.
