Free-to-play brawler 'Brawlhalla' gets cross-play between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch

What you need to know

  • Brawlhalla is a free-to-play brawler from Ubisoft.
  • The game now features cross-play between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
  • You can download it for free through the Microsoft Store.
  • The game is supported by microtransactions.

Brawlhalla is a free-to-play fighting game which features both online and local modes. There's also a single-player option. You join an eternal battle arena where the greatest warriors in history brawl to prove who's the best. Just like Killer Instinct, it features a "Legend Rotation" of eight characters that changes every week. You can earn gold to unlock more fighters by playing any online game mode. Ubisoft says that "Brawhalla will always be 100 percent free to play, with no pay-to-win advantages."

Today, Ubisoft added cross-play between Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The company said the following on the game's website.

Phase Three of a Single Brawlhalla is here! We unified the servers in Phase One, then the patches started happening simultaneously for Phase Two. Now, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One players can play together. This means Nintendo Switch and Xbox One users can matchmake against each other in all online queues... and you can join each other's custom lobbies. There are actually no restrictions between Nintendo Switch and Xbox One players now. Everything you could do before, you can now do between these platforms. Our goal is to remove barriers in our community and to deliver an even better Brawlhalla experience. There will be faster queue times for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and you will be matched with players who are even closer to your skill level. We will be keeping an eye on the situation and making changes if needed.

It's great to see that the game is getting excellent post-launch support even after all this time. Hopefully, other platforms will be able to play together soon, too.
