Free-to-play 'Spacelords' gets cross-play features between Xbox One and Steam

A few months ago, a game called Raiders of the Broken Planet launched on Xbox One and other platforms. The title didn't garner much critical or commercial success and, as a result of this, the developer decided to revamp the experience, change the name of Spacelords, and transition it to a free-to-play model. The free-to-play game has done quite well and today, plans involving cross-play were implemented.

Accoding to the team, Spacelords is a brand-new take on the shooter genre. Through its four vs. one campaign, you experience both sides of the story. Your can join the Raiders in their fight to free the legendary Broken Planet, or switch sides and fight as the Antagonist alongside the invading hordes. The choice is yours.

Out of nowhere, cross-play between Xbox One and Steam is now available. The developer said the following on a blog post on the game's website.

Upon creating a new SpaceGuild, players will be able to team-up with friends and fight for better rewards and beating the highest scores in each of Spacelords' 17 free missions. These SpaceGuilds can even be formed up by cross-platform players, with Steam users allying with PlayStation 4 players, or with Xbox One and Windows 10 players.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Xbox One players can team up with PlayStation 4 players at the moment. However, other games support this functionality so maybe after Sony eases restriction Spacelords will be one of them.
