Galaga for Xbox 360 added to Xbox One Backward Compatibility list

Fans of classic arcade games will be happy to learn that one of the greatest in the genre, the sci-fi shooter Galaga, is now playable on the Xbox One. Microsoft has added the Xbox 360 version of Namco Bandai's game to the Xbox One's Backward Compatibility list of titles.

That means anyone who has purchased the Xbox 360 version of Galaga can now play it on the Xbox One as well for no additional cost. The game itself costs just $4.99 from the Xbox Store, so it's pretty cheap to jump in and play a truly legendary game if you haven't already purchased it. For all two of you who might not have heard of Galaga, here's a quick description:

Control your fighter, with its unique ability to combine with other fighters, and shoot down the invading aliens. Aliens attack in formations using a variety of attack patterns. Rescue a captured fighter to combine with it to form a Dual Fighter with twice the firepower! Earn Perfect Bonuses more easily using a Dual Fighter on the Challenging Stages!

  • That nostalgic feeling.
  • OMG, It's raining backward compatibility classics!!!
  • It says unavailable on my Xbox One, but I bought it from the online store. I installed it, but it does not open.
  • Same here.
  • Does it ask for you to insert the original disc ?
It seems to have some license issues, I've downloaded it 4 times just to be sure and always get the same error.
I posted the problem on the official support forum, but more people explaining if they experience the same issue in the same thread would probably help getting it noticed and fixed :
  • Seems like a title update just fixed the issue, I got a "Galaga is ready to play" notification again and now the game plays fine.
  • Working now. Thanks.
  • One of my all time favs
  • All time classic, love it! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Wow surprised it supports 320x240 8 color
  • I NEED this on my Lumia
  • Cheap!?
  • Got it!
  • I'd rather play it on my actual Midway cocktail cabinet :)
  • I hear yeah. I have my own built MAME machine I play this on at home. So much fun, I'd love to find an original cabinet but people ask way too much for them now.
  • Zaxxon would be nice.
  • Sweet, let's hope they add all the other arcade titles I have in my 360 library, like Dig Dug and Pac-Man!
  • Classic.
  • Glad to see the BC titles getting released as they become available like MS promised
