Homebrew Theme app getting a nice update to make theming easier

Although the percentage of you who want to customize the Tiles on your Windows Phone is pretty small (not to mention technical limitations like being developer unlocked) the project by Windows Phone Hacker has had some success and interest. An update is in the works and it looks to be quite good for those who are into this scene.

We originally saw the Themes homebrew app released last December and now Jaxbot is looking to update the program with some new features and a redesign. The new version will allow you to download themes right from a server negating the need to sync them from your PC. In addition, the UI is much more streamlined and it's easier to add Tiles. The downside is you still need to redeploy tile by tile and Live Tiles don’t work (though Jaxbot notes that an SMS tile notification is possible).

No word on a release but it looks like the project is quite far along, so it shouldn’t be too long. Head over to Windows Phone Hacker and let Jaxbot know your thoughts on the project. And remember, you can always head to our forums for more custom themes.

  • Not having LIVE tiles makes all that kind of useless.
  • Anyone know what's up with the WP Marketplace today... can't get anything to download... somebody's mucked it up.
  • I updated Weather Smiles earlier today...
  • I updated Baconit and Metrotube just a min ago.
  • Mmm. Bacon
  • Customize I like yes. Hombrew to hard yes.
  • Yes.
  • Props to the developer I used the app before but it was slow to launch any app, something like this: first click it calls the home brew app then it calls the app you actually want to launch then the time it takes for the app to launch. We need root access to get the original tile to get override but that is too difficult to do on wp
  • Guys... What's a good site to read tech news... I am so tired of BGR, they are so biased and negative against MFST ita disgusting... They try to make CONS against rt surface for enterprise, author then calls it underpowered, and god to say stiffer competition is price and praises android... And android then turn out is his phone in his bio... Disgusting
  • Man those themes are horrendous. I'm happy MS isn't offering too much user customization as WP would end up looking like crap and fail.
  • I love this feature and I've used it before but with out the live tiles at least for the notifications it's really a bummer.  Also I would love for someone to finally come out with a hack to be able to put a picture on the background behind the tiles.
  • With WP8 theres no room at all to see the pic, behind app list its a different story...
