What you need to know
- Layers of Fear 2 is a psychological horror game.
- The title is the sequel to the original game which launched in 2016.
- You can purchase it for $30 through the Microsoft Store.
Layers of Fear 2 is the sequel to the original Layers of Fear from 2016. The game became quite popular due to its haunting atmosphere, well-designed puzzles, and taut story. While the latest installment isn't as refined, it's still a good experience on Xbox One and PC.
Layers of Fear 2 is currently available for $30 through the Microsoft Store. Despite being a smaller experience, the download comes in at almost 14 GB on Xbox One. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it features Xbox One X enhancements at the moment.
In our review, we said, "Layers of Fear 2 is a solid horror game, even if it struggles to keep a cohesive story and doesn't have the best puzzle gameplay. The game is effective at making the player feel tense and pacing its scares well so you never know what to expect. And, if nothing else, the quality of the graphics and the audio is a treat. If you're looking for a horror experience that perfectly weaves tension, presentation, and narrative together like the original Layers of Fear did, then Layers of Fear 2 will disappoint you."

Exploring who we are
Layers of Fear 2 has excellent atmosphere and cleverly done scares, but its story falls apart towards the end, the puzzle gameplay is average overall, and the imagery often doesn't tie into the narrative's themes.
