Hulu embraces Microsoft with their brand new Universal app for Windows 10

We heard rumors that Hulu - the popular TV and movie streaming service - was set to launch their new universal (UWP) app for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, and now we can confirm that it is available for all to download (or upgrade).

Hulu for Windows 10 was written from the ground up using the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) meaning it can run everywhere from Windows 10 PCs, tablets, and the Surface to Windows 10 Mobile smartphones.

Hulu for Windows 10

The new Hulu app features a new split-view design, improved streaming codec support and excitingly the ability to pin Live Tiles of the app and individual shows to your Start screen. Those Live Tiles will then show you new episodes and update general information. Users can also share and favorite shows from within the app as well.

Hulu for Windows 10 even adds support for Cortana improving the overall user experience. A Hulu app optimized for the Xbox One is expected later this year once Microsoft enables Cortana support for the Windows 10 gaming console.

Hulu for Windows 10

Overall, the new Hulu experience is fantastic as the app now scales text and video correctly for high DPI displays e.g. 4K laptops.

Grab the new Hulu app for Windows 10 and Mobile and let us know what you think!

Thanks, Victor V., and others, for the tips!

  • It's raining Apps!!
  • Raining app without os ..
  • Without Stable release.. ;)
  • .71 is pretty stable on 950 here
  • .107 is super stable
  • It is!!! And battery life is better sgain. In .71 it was worser.
  • Battery life still sucks on my 930...
  • It probably always will. It did my head in. 950 battery much better
  • 930 sucks in case of battery life, even on WP 8.1. Check out the reviews before complaining the OS.
  • As a owner of 2 930s ever since they were released, I'm pretty sure what I'm talking about. Yes, their batteries weren't great on 8.1, but it's MUCH worse now! I used to charge my phone at 6-7pm; now it's down to 30% by 2pm.
  • +929
We have a horrible battery life regardless of the OS, WP 8 black, WP 8.1 demin it doesn't matter if it is optimized for it or a preview OS
  • No, it's so dam buggy. At least whit the 930
  • new build is better
  • No, It's not! It's Awesome!!!
  • +1
  • Not really on 930
  • Stop crying!
  • What is funny is even Hulu beat WC to release a new app.
  • Well hulu is a multi-million dollar business. I think you are comparing apples and oranges.
  • Money makes no difference here. It's commitment or lack thereof for wp.
  • Well, I guess you lose then.
  • Daniel, do you read every comment on every story? If that's part of your job description then you are grossly underpaid. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • No, we all lose, even you, after all we allow you to operate.
  • Really...show some respect..self entitlement,,,,
  • You're about to get served...with a plate
  • They just said they have problems with forums.... app is coming very soon...
  • Hululululululu!!!!!!
  • A few drops here and there, so far. Hope it turns into an actual rain.
  • Wake me up when there's apps for my local stores, coffee shops, parks, banks, public transportation, my DVR and home security system, fast food, and the stuff my work uses. I don't care about Hulu or the latest trendy social media apps and games, I need the actual apps that make my life easier. I don't expect to ever get those on my Windows phone, which means it cannot ever be the primary device I carry. It's a shame.
  • Then have a pretty long slumber Mr.
  • Then ask those to make the apps. If neither devs don't make the apps because market share, nor new users come to the platform due to lack of(local in your case) apps, the wheel will not start moving
  • Here's a thought--sell your Windows phone and end the suffering.
  • Yep. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I am windows phone user since version 7, but to be honest, I am willing to move on =/
  • I care about Hulu. The more high profile brands that associate, the better chance that your locals will listen to your pleas...if you are even making your wishes known.
  • ^ This. The fact that more and more well-known companies are making UWP apps is great news. It's about time companies woke up and realized they cannot assume Windows users will simply visit their website. They are moving to Windows 10, and it is an app that is more likely to be pinned to the Start screen than a website.
  • Not raining apps cause much for apps coming soon.
  • We should add you in Webster's book of quotations :)
  • Thanks William, I'd like that..☺
  • I love reading the comments when there's a new UWP app to see "it's raining apps!"
  • But only one thing that..WP 10 not came yet officially updates for old phones by air ..then what a software
  • er....what?
  • @basi Shut up. Tell me, have every android been updated to 6.0 yet? You like to speak nonsense it seems.
  • #TwitterPollForWindowsPhone
  • Facebook released the beta app for Windows 10 Desktop. I've already tweeted Daniel about it.
  • Where can I grab this?
  • What do you mean?  Isn't it in closed beta?
  • @Duduosf False. Still closed for most people, including myself.
  • For a lot people it's released. Like, I posted on a group, and everyone was able to test lol
  • Oh, I see... Thanks for the heads up, Dan! Disregard my last tweets, then :)
  • Wouldn't spotify be able to do a website-based UWP app relatively easily? (sorry for off-topic)
  • Well they already have an app for mobile. And an app for desktop. I mean...there's stuff there to use.
  • Yeah, but the mobile app really needs some polishing ;)
  • It's raining apps hallelujah it' raining apps yeah yeah!!
  • Haha! :'D
  • Yes! So happy about this.
  • Anyone not supporting the 100's of millions of Windows 10 users is just being silly. Glad to see great companies like Hulu having common sense and creating great products that promote their brand. Netflix and Hulu are leaving companies like Amazon Video far behind.
  • What is this Amazon video you speak of
  • Hulu is small time. Netflix is global. Hulu doesn't even work in Canada.
  • So, no Canada = no good??
  • Well if I can't use it how can it be good? Hehe
  • Well ever herd of services like unblockus, unotelly, etc or tunnlebroker(now this one's surprised me it slipped under Netflixs radar not because I use it for that reason but had problems redeeming a cdn. Netflix gift card)
  • Exactly!
  • move to the u.s.
  • I will can I live with you?
  • Amazon apps are a pile of §hit on Windows, they haven't seen a upgrade in about a year I think.
  • Audible has seen several updates and even has features not found in the iOS or Android apps.. So not really sure what you're on about.
  • Yeah, but where are Prime Now, Prime Music, Prime Video? Also, IMDb (owned by Amazon) hasn't seen an update in 4eva.
  • What's wrong with the Amazon app?
  • 90% of W10 desktop users never download a single 'app'. There is no market for making W10 mobile apps.
  • Sir, you are misinformed it seems. App downloads have rocketed since w10 launch.
  • No they haven't
  • Given that core OS apps like Mail and Weather and even Calculator are 'apps', I can assure you that App downloads will definitely have rocketed :)
  • Where's your data from? I'm part of the 10%. I have even more 'apps' only tablet. Plenty of market.
  • Nice to see a big name so embracing
  • I remember when Hulu "had no plans" for Windows Phone.
  • It's a place where people can watch other people play make-believe.
  • Congress?
  • ZINGGGGGGG!!! Posted via.........deez nutz!!!!!!
  • This app has been broken forever on Windows 8 for me so I just stopped trying. Maybe this one actually works! EDIT: Nope! Same PB4 error yacking about my graphics driver.
  • This is for windows 10 only...
  • I'm on 10. Just highlighting that it has been broken since then.
  • Works for me. Has worked for me since I installed it probably years ago...
  • Yep, get the same error on Surface Pro 4 (Windows 10, obviously).
  • Um, it's not the app, it's your video driver......
  • Nah, it's the app. It used to work fine, then they put an update out to it where it broke these things. A lot of people compained about this in reviews.
  • Ever thought to update your graphics driver?
  • Yup. On latest Radeon that Windows Update includes. Happens on my Surface Pro 3 though, too.
  • Funny in my media pc which used a Radeon graphics card I have no issues with it at all
  • Weird, works on my surface pro 3, and on my pc with r9 270x :/
  • I was using the old Hulu on Windows 10 mobile and there was no way to get rid of the navigation bar. I'm very pleased with this update.
  • Well, at least I'm not the only one with the dreaded PB4 error on a Radeon graphics card. I've updated to the latest driver that Windows Update has found and downloaded the latest driver from the manufacturer that supports my card under Windows 10. Same issue. Scumdog, what chipset are you using in your Radeon card? I'm wondering if this is only in older Radeon models. My laptop is at least four years old now and not supported by the new Crimson driver set.
  • I followed the link but the store webpage says only for PC and won't push me to the mobile store. When searching the mobile store, it just lists Hulu plus
  • As usual, give it some it some time. Clearly we installed it on our phones...
  • You must have photoshopped it for click bait.....
    ..
Obviously I'm kidding, but someone will not realize it so I must be clear...I am jesting.
  • Since our conversation here, the article has modified to have a second app link for mobile only. What's difference? I haven't started trial yet to log in
  • Same thing. Browser link would not allow me to download app.
  • Use app raising then, takes u directly to the store
  • Just do a search in the store...
  • The store listing hasn't changed. Try uninstalling the app first if you already had it installed. Then do a store search and the app you reinstall will be the W10 app, even tho the listing seems to be the old one.
  • Doesn't saying windows 10 pcs and phones cover everything?
  • Glad to see the New apps far outweighing the apps leaving, for sure a great sign for me !!!
  • Please bring mx player, vlc player and official apps like twitter, fb, instagram, torrent etc.
  • VLC twitter facebook instagram already exist.
  • I wondered what happened to the "promised" univeral Facebook, Messenger and Instagram apps. Facebook Inc and Microsoft clearly don't care about it. Those 4 months tells the story. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Well apps arnt FBs endgame html is
  • Have you even done a search of the store? Some of those apps already exist.
  • You clearly don't even use wp... So why are you here?
  • You poor dumbdumb. You know based off his flair that he doesn't windows?
  • Lovely
  • Come on Xfinity X1, bring that windows 10 UWA.
  • Lol. One app and everybody starts tripping.
  • Hope it fixed the "We're sorry, an error occurred. Please make sure date and time settings are correct.
    (DJ17)" error
  • Nope wasted 27.9mb for nothing now it says "We're sorry, an error occurred. (DJ1)" guess wp8.1.1 will have to do for now
  • We currently have Netflix. Does anyone here think Hulu has more to offer?
  • I agree the service from Netflix is usually better, but this Hulu app is definitely better than the one from Netflix
  • Dunno about more... But different.. I subscribe to both, as well as the ShowTime Hulu add-on. We generally watch "mainstream" shows on Hulu (as well as the current ShowTime hits) on a weekly basis. Then we binge on Netflix for the more obscure stuff, just finished River, Occupied, The Heavy Water War, Making of a Murderer and Chelsea Does... for example - all shows we'd have completely missed otherwise. We've also got Amazon Prime which comes with free video, and we binged Mad Dogs on that, as well as watched Vikings before that became available on Hulu. All in all though, much cheaper than cable, and in terms of not having to DVR vrap all thr time, better as well.
  • Hulu is great for watching current shows the next day after they air. They also have a decent movie selection.
  • Exactly next day or week(thru website) depending on how much your willing to spend tv shows come much quicker then on Netflix(unless its on the cbs paywall)
  • They offer different things. Netflix is good for movies and older TV shows in full season as well as their own shows. Hulu is good for next day TV episodes and few movies. I go with Netflix because of Marvel shows and movies. Next day TV episodes I can watch official websites.
  • I usually switch between them every few months. Amazon as well. They compliment one another well. Alot of the content doesn't overlap. Posted via the Note 4/Nexus 7 (2013)/Lumia 1020/Lumia 2520
  • I wish the Netflix app was this good
  • Awesome. Now if we could get Vudu, Amazon and Disney Movies Anywhere universal apps I'd be all set in terms of services I use.
  • Downloading off principal.
  • How about Facebook and instagram!!! Come on!
  • UWP seems key to this app storm...by default Windows 10 Mobile gets them by default, so a win on all fronts.
  • Thank you Hulu if you're reading in this forum!
  • Can't believe Hulu beats Netflix to it. Where's our Windows Central app you promised BTW?
  • Netflix released a W10 app before Hulu...
  • Not for Windows 10 Mobile unfortunately.
  • When was it promised?
  • This passing Monday..
  • "if everything goes to plan... Should be next week..." So obviously there might be something that needs to be fixed. That was a contingency statement. Be patient and grateful that they're giving it to us for free
  • I'm not grateful. I want a paid app. So that I'm sure there will be no ads later. Their word/promises obviously means nothing. So let me pay for the app. $3 or even $5 is fine. PS: Dark theme pls.
  • I am okay with a paid app as well. But at least there has to be an app to pay for.
  • Their word means nothing? They did not say that the app would definitely be out this week, only it might be
  • Windows Central app is coming soon. Like official release of Windows 10 Mobile. Soon. Lol
  • #TwitterPollForWindowsPhone
We can get this feature if we tweet it to Twitter, the CEO and support
  • Still waiting for instagram tho
  • We have a completely functional instagram client currently. Our fb app leaves a lotto be desired though
  • Yes, this has been much needed. The old Hulu app for WP was pretty bad.
  • Now all we need is official Windows 10 Mobile :D for phones on 8.1
  • But for that they need to cleanup the crapstorm that is edge
  • Fantastic. I updated both the desktop and mobile versions. love the ability to voice search.
  • Soon
  • Yes yes yes!!!! YouTube, your move. Amazon, your love
  • Is hulu still US only? Or can users from the UK and EU also use the plus functionality.
  • C'mon Twitter!
  • I click the link and the store opens, however saying Hulu currently not available. :((
  • I can't get it to allow me to download on my Lumia 950
  • Woohoo!
  • I am getting this error in the store when trying to download the app, "This app is not compatible with this device." My phone is a 950XL
  • Same here, on my 1520.3 running .107. But I'm in Guatemala. Does that make it unavailable?
  • App is terrible in my Lumia 830. It's slow
  • Awesome, looks like there are lot impatient people about lol.
  • Nothing for WP 10 yet. I see Hulu Plus but it is not made for Windows 10.
  • Finally! Hooray!!
  • Continuum? I guess yes.
  • Can anyone confirm this?
  • No, doesn't work with continuum
  • It's interesting to see what's happening. More people have been proclaiming WP is dead than ever, yet they have more third party manufacturer support than ever and we're starting to see a [slow] uptick in apps. Hopefully the trend continues. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Windows Phone is Dead (8.1 No More News). Not Windows 10 Mobile. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Cool cool cool!
  • I need some news on a Directv app. I can't sign in to it with my AT&T credentials, cause it's never been updated since AT&T bought them.
  • I would love to download and support this app however the store page says it is not available?
  • It's only available in the US but that's easy to fix. Change your country in Windows region setting to USA and set it back after installing Hulu. It worked for me.
  • Great and all, but still means nothing to the vast majority of customers as Hulu is only available in the US.
  • Just installed it inside my W10 virtual machine and I get "playback not supported on this device". Boo!
  • Great. Keep em coming
  • Daniel, Please update the link text to display "Windows 10 Mobile" instead of "Windows Phone". I clicked the "Windows 10" link expecting to get Hulu for my phone runs Windows 10 Mobile. It is expected, that a link to Hulu for Windows Phone would take users to Hulu for Windows Phone and not Hulu for Windows 10 Mobile as we all know that Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile are two different OSes with two different apps. I am saying this in an effort to not make room for confusion as yes, I actually did click the Windows 10 link on my phone as facts say that my phone doesnt run Windows Phone and at best, if lumping in a Windows 10 Mobile device as type of phone that runs Windows, it would simply be a Windows phone as the "p" would be lowercased as a capital"p" refers to the OS named Windows Phone...which this particular app is not available available on Windows Phone. Thank you for the article as I have been waiting on this Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 app. Happy Valentines to you all.
  • US ONLY, OF COURSE. Wouldn't hurt to mention this. But well.
  • Picture stutters badly on two different Win10 machines - SP4 and trusty old upgraded Tosh. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall, etc... no good. Which is a shame, because it is now effectively unusable and there's no way to go back, *sigh*
  • Not available in India. :(
  • Does ever one just complain about windows 10 mobile? Please go back to IOS or Android. I am tired of the windows bashing. Either you like the os and deal with the ride or go elsewhere. Btw... Android and IOS is not perfect either.
  • I was getting tired of the W10M so I bought a moto x for like 21 dollars on Amazon on a deal thing. Used it for about 12 hours. Decided I hated that experience and the stupid google notification poping up saying I should enable google services, and relized the apps werent worth it. So back to my 640 :). Trying to sell the Moto X now :).
  • WP8.1 is also much better option than W10M. Perhaps it will be upgrade quality in a year or so.
  • Have you used w10m lately?
  • @Brent Jordan1 +1000
  • Probably Dan should answer this question in the next Ask Dan video - Is windows 10 mobile showing signs of improvement?
  • Ok so its built for Windows 10 but it doesnt work in Continuum. WTF?!
  • I'm might het iPhone 5s. I would install all Microsoft services there. Bcoz there is np decent mid range smartphone launched yet. And Microsoft is going to make Surface phone. So I'm better getting iPhone 5s o. A discounted price.
  • And this is relevant to the Hulu app how?
  • Now if only Hulu would embrace the UK market I could actually use this app
  • Eagerly waiting for Hotstar..
  • They're not making the application anytime soon!
  • Will this also be available in the UK, it is it U.S. only.
  • Hulu isn't available outside the US, so the app is only available in the US
  • Not available in my country
  • Great! But I am far more excited at the discovery of a Tidal HiFi app. Because if that, my car stereo just got a BIG upgrade in sound! :-)
  • I can't get either app to sign in. Windows 10 app says 'server error' and the mobile app just stops trying to sign in.
  • Too bad hulu us a crappy service, and dishonest in their offerings
  • Looks like a web wrapper
  • More Devs need to use the universal method it really is a better system
  • New app doesn't work for me using continuum on AT&T 950 and latest insider build. Looks great until I hit play, then I get a black screen with audio. Tried on 2 different displays that have no other issues with Continuum.
  • I think DRM content won't work for some apps if you project it via USB
  • Because I got a Usb yo VGA adapter and I couldn't play DRM videos through it
  • awesome
  • Looks like Hulu for 8.1 wont be getting a similar update. I just downgraded my sons phone back to 8.1 and the old Hulu Plus app is back. Thats a shame.
  • Universal Windows App and All but Live TV feature is not coming to Windows Mobile according to their website, can you guys confirm it works on the app for Windows 10 Mobile?
