At Microsoft's virtual Ignite conference, the company has announced new privacy, security, and compliance features for Microsoft Teams that will begin rolling out this month. New features include Invite-only meeting controls, the ability to disable video, End-to-end encryption for 1:1 Teams calls, and Teams multigeo support.
Invite-only meeting controls will be generally available later this month, and enable Teams users to ensure that only intended participants are allowed to join a meeting. The ability to disable video is coming in the first half of this year, and does exactly what it says on the tin. It allows meeting hosts to disable th video of specific attendees if necessary.
End-to-end encryption for Teams calls is a big deal and will be available for commercial customers in the first half of this year in preview. This will help enterprises reach their security and compliance requirements by providing additional options for conductinve sensitive online conversations.
End-to-end encryption can be enabled in unscheduled 1:1 meetings, and admins will be able to specify which users in the org can utilize this encryption. Microsoft intends to expand this capability to scheduled calls and online meetings in the future.
Finally, multigeo support will be generally available in the first half of this year and enables multinational organizations greater control over the location of specific data centers where their Teams data is stored, right down to the team and user level.
