Mogul Gets Rom Update

Big ups to codyppc (opens in new tab) for tipping us that the expected Mogul Rom is indeed upon us, with the following updates:

• Improves Bluetooth compatibility and performance.
• Corrects keypad function when using On Demand.
• Corrects Alarm so it will ring when device is charging.
• Corrects several Sprint Music performance issues like fast-forwarding.
• Enables Sprint Music store to function on early production devices
• Adds new Sprint start up and sign off screens

Go download it at the HTC: Support page. Oh, and just so you know, we're still hoping for an update that will enable the GPS "lite" chip on the Mogul in January or February as well.

• Thanks, cody!
• What about me? :(http://discussion.wmexperts.com/showpost.php?p=1364402&postcount=48
:p
• I missed yours!
Thanks to Pibe38 too. :-D
• Hehehe no worries... just joking!
Anyway, I haven't taken the plunge yet. Anyone upgrade yet? I'm just lazy and don't feel like re-installing everything tonight.
• i installed last night. have seen no new problems. looks good. testing bt today.
cody
• I installed last night and tried to do a restore from Spb Backup. The backup worked, but I could not get BT to come on. I ended up hard resetting and reinstalling all my apps. That's probably better anyway.
I stopped the 'extra' stuff from Sprint from installing by soft resetting before they could be installed. I think I may go back and set it back to factory and let those install. I think it installs several sounds that I use. I didn't even think about sounds being part of the 'extra' stuff.
My Spb Alarm did go off this morning even with the device off. That would not happen before. So, they did fix the wakeup for alarms issue.
Will test more today with BT. I had crappy BT until I flashed the Alltel ROM. After that, BT worked great. I hope this contains those same BT files.
• I upgraded the ROM this morning and the BT will not activate. From Comm Manager it appears to be turning on but times out. Is your BT working since you did a hard reset?
•
I upgraded the ROM this morning and the BT will not activate. From Comm Manager it appears to be turning on but times out. Is your BT working since you did a hard reset?
After a hard reset and clean install all is working. I know not to try to do restore after a ROM install, but I was lazy.
I have noticed that BT is turning off occasionally, but it will turn right back on when I tap the BT icon.
• I used BT last night for about 45 minutes on the phone. Didn't seem remarkable on my end (ie, I got a little static) but the guy on the other end never complained. I didn't think to ASK how I sounded.
• My BT is much better but it keeps turning itself off. My D-pad stops occasionally as well.
• The new ROM also recognized my 6GB micro SDHC card right off. No need to install the patch that is floating about.
• ANother cool thing I noticed is that since the new ROM, when I click a link in an email for example, it has no problem launching the web page with Opera, which before it would not do. I got an error about invalid certificate or some such nonsense. Now it just launches, which takes away just about the ONLY negative of using Opera. Get Opera. Opera rules! Go Opera!
Ok, but it seriously IS an awesome browser, and I'm not talking about Opera mini.
• Word to the wise, if you are thinking about updating your rom to this... STAY AWAY... you would be in for a world of hurting... (if you fall into the majority)
• Yes....there has a been great deal fixes and a whole new set of issues reported with this ROM update:ISSUES

When BT is one and then the phone goes to sleep, the Dpad stops working

BT will turn off all by itself, even in the middle of a phone call

The phone locks up. Some reporting several lockups an hour. Some post the lockups are so solid that the only way they could reset was to take out the battery.
FIXES

BT sound quality is great

Better memory management

Increased battery life

Alarm goes off on time when asleep

Can type in OnDemand (....and Live?)

Snappier performance

New cool startup and turn off Sprint screens
There are those who are not reporting any problems at all while experiencing all of the benefits. But the majority have all or some of the challenges. The BT and Dpad turning off seem to be universal. The lock ups seem to be a 50/50 chance of having it.
Personally, my phone is so important to my job, I am going to hold off on this ROM update. I think I am going to try the Alltell radio upgrade to help with the BT sound quality and wait until either the nexted rumored ROM update that will hopefully enable GPS or a ROM update to fix this ROM update!
• Wow....I will give it a few more days to see the feedback but it looks like the BT & the Dpad issues can be resolved with a reg edit. So far it has received positive feedback from those trying it. If this is the case this next weekend, I will try updating to the new ROM version:Sorry it was in HKLM/software/microsoft/bluetooth/sys
So far One hour my phone has been connecting and disconnecting with my bluetooth devices as it should.
The reason I didn't see the Scan Mode was cuz I was looking in HKLM and not HKCU
Btw I just checked and my Scan mode in HKCU/software/microsoft/bluetooth/settings is set to 7. I never changed it.
I'm actually going to try setting it to 0 as I found that this is what 0 means "Determines the default scan mode for the Bluetooth adapter. The default value is 0x3 and ensures inquiry mode and page scan mode are enabled."
from here http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms884944.aspx
Oh btw when I changed my setting in HKLM/software/microsoft/bluetooth/sys/DisableAutoSuspend to 0 from 1 it has solved the D pad problem completely. I'll continue to monitor my system the way it is set now, but I think this may fix the bluetooth problem and the dpad problem making this rom good again.

• wish that were true but it seems some are still having issues. and those reg edits don't help the lockups at all. from what I read, sprint is working with htc on a new rom to fix the issues. ill believe it when I see it...
• The lock ups seem to still be a 50/50 chance. And if these hacks work for most, I may give a try.
I have the old ROM, so I can go back to that if needed, restore my backup so I am back where I started. If there seems to a majority that get it working, I will take the chance and just revert back if it doesn't work for me.
.....but this is why I will be giving it another week. To get a good feel of the success others have had.
As for Sprint / HTC fix...I am with you. I will only believe it when I see it. But the more people call and complain to both companies the better our chances.
• The locking up seems to be an issue with the radio and going in/out of roaming. From what I've read at least... I've only experienced 2 lockups, but I was away from my phone and don't really roam too often.
• try turning roaming on and off... you will lock it up. and it locks up switching between 1x and evdo...
• try turning roaming on and off... you will lock it up. and it locks up switching between 1x and evdo...
Uhmm... haven't experienced the lock up switching between 1x and EVDO, and I have seen the device switch between the two in front of me.
• consider yourself lucky...how about the roaming lock up?
• Well I don't know about that one...
My phone has only locked up once, and it was overnight the first night after I upgraded. Becuase I was asleep I don't know what happened. I don't roam too much, but the area where the phone was charging is one where my phone may roam from time to time.
The only other thing that has happened was that my phone's battery drained in like 3 hours while I was asleep. So I don't know about that.
What I have experienced is the dpad not working while BT is on.
• you can try just by turning the roaming on and off under the phone options. see if that locks it up or slows it down.
• 2.16 has been removed from the HTC site. And yes, I know there's 2 sites for the America region and that one of them already had 2.09 up instead of 2.16
Now both show 2.09 as the latest ROM.
• now lets see how long it will take to post a new rom...
• There are already rumors they will have a fix by 10/31/07!!!!!! I will publically eat my words if proven wrong, but I personally find this EXTREMELY hard to believe in the least. Now with Sprint's track record if the fix was rumored to be 10/31/2008, then I might believe.
• Yeah that's what I think too... I doubt there will be a new ROM tomorrow.
• You folks need to have a brighter outlook... or start drinking. Even Sprint looks good through beer-goggles :D
• This is now on the america.htc.com Downloads site for the Mogul...NOTE: The ROM update version 2.16.651 posted on 10/24/2007 which had Bluetooth fixes has been removed. Update 2.16 caused some unanticipated conflicts in device performance. The Bluetooth fixes will be added to a future ROM update expected in early 2008. If you already updated your device to version 2.16, you can restore your device to the prior version by installing the file posted below. Please bookmark this webpage for future software updates.
• What gets me is that the issues were universal. I could see a release coming out with issues with a percentage of the users or users under individual situations, like configurations, 3rd party apps, etc... But if they had installed this ROM on 2 or more phones and actively used it for more than 90 minutes the issues should have been obvious.
It would be VERY interesting to see their Beta process and results.
• this is pretty pathetic...

Man, glad I did not jump on the bandwagon. It took them 4 months to come out with this Rom. I'm sure the next will be late Jan or Feb. ....
• Me too. I have to be honest and say that unless I am totally bored with 2solid days to blow addressing potential new problems, I wait 2-3 weeks before I install a new ROM to see what problems others are having with the new ROM with any potential fixes already available or not. If it was my weekend phone, no problem, but I am too dependent on my Mogul for work to have it crash.
• Straight from the horse's mouth, the development group at Sprinthttp://forums.buzzaboutwireless.com/baw/board/message?board.id=SmartPhones&thread.id=2262
"Sprint and HTC regret any inconvenience customers have recently experienced with the Mogul. HTC is working on a new version of the software ROM for the Mogul which incorporates enhancements for Bluetooth performance and corrects issues that were unintentionally created by ROM version 2.16.651.0 (posted on HTC?s website on October 24). Both Sprint and HTC have begun testing the new software and are targeting to make it available for download by the end of November. Once fully tested the download will be made available at: http://www.america.htc.com/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
As a short-term solution, customers who downloaded the ROM version 2.16 should download the previous ROM version 2.09.651.3 available at the link above. This will restore previous functionality to the device until a new version is complete.
Additionally, HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008. We would also like to extend our thanks to those customers that have taken the time to identify and report these issues to us."
• Well, Now that HTC has posted the new Rom on 11/29/07 for version 2.17.651.0. http://www.america.htc.com/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
Has anyone had any issues or jubilations about it so far??? I've not seen too much listed in these forums.... Unless everyone's been too busy to upgrade yet...LOL.
• I posted in this thread:http://discussion.wmexperts.com/showthread.php?t=153853&page=4
at this time i am pretty happy with this update i have several programs on the device and no real conflicts as of yet i have also made several Registry tweaks that seem to be working quite well.
as for the blue tooth it is working perfectly at this point with my new Blue Ant Z9. Noise cancellation is EXCELLENT with great volume control and fairly easy to navigate buttons. overall i would highly recommend it
• Inter,
Thanks for the additional info. I did read your listed post earlier before posting in this thread, but there has been little else posted since the update was released. Which is odd considering the interest back in October on vs .16 and the heap of input.
Since you've been running it for a few weeks, I'll go ahead and install it tonight.
Thanks again,
• Yep you would have thought there would have been all kinds of post here about it LOL.
i have been over on PPCGeeks for a while getting all set up with REG Tweeks ect.

• I installed the newest Rom two days ago and it seems to work just fine so far. Granted, I'm not interested in the BT fixes, but I do hope it fixes the keyboard issues I've had on some applications and a battery drain problem.
Two things I've noticed using this 6800. May or not be related to the old ROM:
1- I had some lesser used programs installed on my Sandisk 512 mb card. Now they were Oxios Memory and Hibernate and SPB backup. They are a one use deal and turn off after using them. Also had Google Maps installed to the card too.
I kept having issues where my battery would get fully drained in about 6 hrs or less. Even if I went into the memory section and turned off all programs and free'd up any memory being used and killed any programs. Really stumped me....
2-I also had an issue where some incoming calls would completely lock up the phone. Could not answer the call or get the phone to respond without a soft reset. Not cool when the wife or boss called.
Since the latest ROM forces a fresh install of the OS, I opted to install all programs to the phone memory and not the card (SPB backup, SPB Shell, Oxios, Google Maps). After all my settings were back in place, the phone has been lightly used (calls, email, google maps) the past 24 hrs on a single charge and this morning I'm down to 70% battery. Which before I could have never left it off the charger overnight!
So, there may have been a power hog program living on my memory card and/or the latest Rom helps with battery life too. Not sure which, but at least I don't have to carry a charger with me all the time now..LOL.
I'll update any changes I find specific to the Rom later.....
