Top Microsoft Band App from the Windows Phone Store

The Microsoft Band 2 has been on the market for just about a month now and for many, this is their first Microsoft Band. We all know the Microsoft Health App is a must have for Band users, but there are several Windows Phone apps available that can help you customize your Band themes or increase the Band's abilities.

We are seeing this category of apps continue to grow and many of the original Band apps have been updated to support the Band 2. For this week's Windows Central Roundup, we will highlight a few of these Windows Phone titles that you may find useful. If we have overlooked your favorite Band app, feel free to toss out your recommendation in the comments below.

Fanband is a marvelous Windows Phone app for customizing your Microsoft Band's theme. The app has over a thousand themes to choose from the world of sports, video gaming, movies, technology and more.

The interface is simple and the developer is constantly adding more themes to the mix. You can view the most popular or newest themes by the tap of a button or you can surf the dozen or so categories to find a theme that best matches your personality. If you cannot settle on just one theme, you can set Fanband to automatically update your Microsoft Band theme periodically based on your favorite themes.

Fanband is also available from the Windows 10 Store as a universal app and we feel it is a must have app for anyone owning a Microsoft Band. It supports both the original Band and the Band 2 screen resolutions.

Anti-Theft Band Alarm

Anti-Theft Band Alarm

If you are plagued by curious people wanting to tinker with your Windows Phone, the Anti-Theft Band Alarm app might be something of interest. The app creates a tile on your Band and when activated, when your Windows Phone is move an alarm sounds on not only your phone, but your Band begins to vibrate as well.

You can set the alarm on your Windows Phone to require a PIN number to silence and you can pause/resume the vibrating alert on your Band from the Anti-Theft Band Alarm tile. The app has five alarm sounds that include Alien, Annoying, Stay-away, Bark and Raven. All of which can be rather alarming and can easily alert you if someone is messing with your phone.

Anti-Theft Band Alarm

The obvious shortfall of this app is going to be its effective range. If your Band is beyond the Bluetooth range of your Windows Phone, you will not get the alert. On the plus side, the alarm sound will still activate from the Windows Phone and closing the app or locking the phone will not turn it off.

It is not a perfect security system for your Windows Phone but it has potential. Anti-Theft Band Alarm is rated at 4.5 Stars in the Windows Phone Store and if you give it a try, let us know what you think of things in the comments below.

Clear My Band

Clear My Band

This is a ridiculously simple Windows Phone app that can save you a lot of tapping to clear your Band notifications. Clear My Band eliminates the need to go from Band tile to tile to clear any notifications that have popped-up.

The interface is uncomplicated in that all you need to do is tap the center button and the app connects to your Band and clears the notifications. If you don't want all your notifications cleared, you can pick and choose which tiles to clear in the app's settings (found under the three-dot menu).

Clear My Band

I keep Clear My Band pinned to my Windows Phone Start Screen for easy access and it definitely makes clearing all my tile notifications a lot easier. Clear My Band supports both the original Band and the Band 2.

Wallpaper Studio 10

Wallpaper Studio 10

Wallpaper Studio 10 is an interesting wallpaper app that is designed with the Windows 10 one-screen concept in mind. The app has more than 20,000 high quality HD wallpapers that can be used for your Windows 10 device and Microsoft Band.

The Band interface has an assortment of themes to choose from that will not only change your Band's wallpaper but also the color patterns, but also the option to just change the color pattern or wallpaper.

Wallpaper Studio 10

The selection of imagery ranges from abstract images to anime to landscapes with content ranging from family friendly to adult oriented. The only issue I had with Wallpaper Studio 10 as it relates to the Microsoft Band is that the color selection did not load with consistency. Otherwise, it comes across as a solid collection of wallpapers and lockscreen images that can be used on all your Windows 10 devices and your Band.

  • I use Send2Band every day tho send notes to my band.
  • Thanks. Now I'll sleep better.
  • Finally saw Band 2 in person last week. I was disappointed to see that they only made the screen taller, not wider- so the whole interface looks slightly squished and narrow.
  • I was so happy to download the clear my band update which fixed the issues with clear my band on 10581.
  • Haven't got a hands on with the band2 yet. I think I like the way they've moved the charger to the clasp where it should not get as dirty and cause charging issues. What's the experience on that amongst band2 users so far?
  • I didn't own the original band so I can't compare, but I like the placement of the charger on the band2.  When worn the charging connector is facing the top of the other band where they clasp together, so this protects it somewhat.  Plus it seems to be easy to clean.  I haven't had any problems with it so far, but then I only bike and hike and don't get as in the dirt as others do. BTW, I love Fanband!  I made my own theme in no time.  I also asked for a new feature on the app and received an extremely quick reply from the developer that they are looking into it.
  • Me, my girlfriend and her mum have all been very happy with ours. The experience has been mostly positive with some minor exceptions. I'm on Android and every now and again my battery saver kills the notification communication with my band for texts etc. And the GPS wasn't quick to lock on the first time, but I found out this is due to meta data and it's been very quick since. There are a few things I would like to see added to the health app and it would be nice if it was water proof. But other than that it's been spot on. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Yes, it's MUCH better, the new charging port is never in contact with skin. I had to replace my original band 3x for failure to charge, the plates always corroded.
  • I really hope they do a wider release for the band 2. I'm eagerly awaiting one for the Swedish market to complete my 950 XL.
  • Just purchased fanband. Thought it worthy to support a devoted developer. :)
That Wallpaper Studio 10 is crazy cool too!
Not sure why W10 catches so much heat. It's barely gotten out of the gate and it's already amazing to have at your fingertips, and literally, at your voice command!
  • Are you able to use voice with your Band and W10 phone. I just bought a Lumia 950 and I cant use Cortana or reply to messages with my Band.
  • I have the same problem and, when researching a fix, found that lots of others on several forums have posted same. Try to use Cortana and it responds with "Make sure bluetooth is on and your phone is nearby". Odd thing is that Cortana on my Band 2 used to work, could even change my Fanband theme. Not anymore. Factory reset does not help, and I have yet to find the solution. Sucks.
  • I love Pimp My Band!!! The only one I know of that allows me to have custom pictures as a background. It's awesome, thank you!
  • Still no news about band 2 release in Europe.
  • Really? Is UK not part of Europe? Band 2 got released on 19 Nov :/
  • I'm in italy and I have one. ...4 days delivery.
  • We've had it in Ireland for a few days too
  • Ye ive had mine over a week and sent it back for a smaller size. Just waiting for that to land at my door. In the Uk im waiting for the phone to be released
  • AppS. :) Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I would love to see a "find my phone" functionality like the iphone/Apple watch has. I wonder if that would be possible.
  • All apple does is stupid, just don t care.
  • Lol, ok.
  • There is: WHERES MY PHONE
  • Thanks!
  • Thanks! Just downloaded it.
  • Using "Play music" as a voice command helps find the phone.
  • There's an app called find my band
  • Hi, thanks for the reviews. Links look broken, at least from MS Edge browser.
  • Bounce for band is also quite entertaining
  • Got my band a week ago. Love it. My husband wore it one night to check out his sleep pattern and was sold ... sigh ... so to keep mine I had to get him one for Christmas. My favorite part is using it at Starbucks-the Baristas are smitten...and when I tell them it is a Microsoft Band they look surprised and interested.
  • I'd like an app for the band to vibrate to remind me to charge it when it gets low - I keep forgetting.
  • Generally if you toss it on the charger when you shower you should have more than enough charge to get through a day.
  • Can anybody tell me why Fanband is better than Pimp My Band? Besides the selection of "thousands of themes", which doesn't interest me.
  • The Band desperately needs navigation prompts sent to it for turn by turn directions.  And by 'The Band', I mean me.
  • It would be doable but the band has no sounds, you would need to continuously look at the band screen...
  • Missing "Band Camera" :)
  • I wasn't impressed at all by this app, especially seeing as you have to pay for it. Sure, there are many choices but the designs are all the same and often quite ugly (usually when there's the sausage font under the time). I'm using the FREE make-your-own band theme app Pimp My Band. Much better and it even has a Band battery live tile you can pin to your Start screen.
  • I'm not a fan of the text under the image, but that can be turned off before sending to the band.
