TV, music, movies, and books we're into this week

The weekend is just around the corner, and you're probably keen to put your feet up and enjoy some downtime. What better way to relax than with some great tunes, a quality movie, or a real page turner? If you're looking for suggestions, we put together a collection of some of the best stuff out there right now.

TV and movies

Here are some of the movies and TV shows Windows Central is enjoying this week.

The Post

Recommended by Dan Thorp-Lancaster, staff writer

I skipped The Post in theaters, but it's something I've been looking forward to seeing for a while.Starring Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Bob Odenkirk, and countless other stars, The Post tells the story of The Washington Post and its fight to publish what became known as the Pentagon Papers, documents that exposed the lengths the government went to in order to deceive the public about the Vietnam War. That makes for great drama material, but it also documents a pivotal moment in the fight to maintain one of the most important American tenets: freedom of the press.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Recommended by Cale Hunt, staff writer

The aesthetic of Wes Anderson's movies is always pleasing, and when coupled with great actors and a great script, you get something special. This wasn't my first time seeing The Grand Budapest Hotel, but enough years had passed that I forgot most of the plot. This is the tale of a fictional Eastern-European country on the brink of war, the concierge of the Grand Budapest Hotel, and the lobby boy who becomes embroiled in art theft, murder, and love.

Music

Here's some of the music the Windows Central team is listening to this week.

Zanaka ― Jain

Recommended by Cale Hunt, staff writer

Jeanne Galice, a French singer-songwriter who goes by the name Jain, released Zanaka in 2016, but I only came across her music by chance last week. The electro-pop vibes are perfect as the weather outside warms and I've been able to open windows for fresh air once again. It's upbeat and it's catchy ― what more could I ask for?

Books

Here are the books we're reading this week!

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ― Junot Diaz

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ― Junot Diaz

Recommended by Cale Hunt, staff writer

I didn't actually read this book this week, but it's had a spot on my shelf for a long time. It won plenty of awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, and, in my opinion, for good reason. Oscar Wao is a young man who's pretty much the epitome of "nerd" and who dreams of one day becoming a famous fantasy writer. The problem? His Dominican family is cursed. The story is a look at Dominican-American culture, a look at what it's like to be unpopular, and what it means to be in love.
