What you need to know

  • Valheim's developers have teased some of what's coming in the game's upcoming Hearth and Home update.
  • The tease includes an image of a raven on a perch, which suggests players will be able to build a perch themselves and will be able to use ravens in some way. It could also be a decorative adornment to put on the exterior of player homes.
  • According to the developers, the Hearth and Home update is slated to arrive sometime in 2021 and will focus on house building and the game's farming and cooking systems.

In a new blog post, the developers of Valheim have provided fans with a sneak peek at one of the things coming in the future Hearth and Home update. Specifically, the developers showed off an image of what appears to be a raven sitting on a perch. Have a look for yourself below.

This image leads us to believe that players will be able to build perches for ravens and perhaps even send them out into the world to give messages or items to other faraway players. It's also possible that this is a wooden carving of a raven on a perch, which would make it a decorative adornment that players can put on their homes. Ultimately, we'll have to be patient until the developers give us more information to know what the sneak peek is truly teasing.

According to Iron Gate Studio, the Hearth and Home update is currently planned to release in 2021 and will largely focus on the building, cooking, and farming systems in Valheim. This means new building pieces, new cooking recipes, and most likely, new mechanics that add more depth to these systems overall.

Valheim is available for $20 on Steam through Early Access. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend getting it as it's one of the best survival games for PC right now. If you do pick up the game, don't miss our beginner's guide to your first days and beyond in Valheim.
