With Project xCloud's testing phase winding down, Microsoft sent out a short thank you note to the thousands of preview program members this morning to share their excitement for the next phase of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate's cloud streaming option. Project xCloud streaming will sit alongside the next-gen Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles as an option for taking your games on the road.
On September 15, Microsoft will expand Project xCloud to every Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member in 22 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The full library of games has yet to be revealed, but we're expecting well over 100 titles, with possible imminent announcements from major third-party publishers.
The video above was sent out to Project xCloud testers with thank you messages from the platform's various staffers, including Xbox lead Phil Spencer.
Project xCloud is the culmination of a significant engineering and financial investment from Microsoft, involving Microsoft's massive Azure cloud platform and unique server blades designed to directly mimic Xbox One consoles. Future upgrades to the servers will bring Xbox Series X and S NVME SSD speeds, along with bumps in resolution, and other features specifically designed for cloud streaming, as opposed to the Xbox One-based solution the servers are using today.
Microsoft still has some challenges to solve, such as improving ergonomics, getting more accessory vendors to make better mounts and phone clip solutions, as well as improved UI and touch control features. The opportunity is truly massive, though, with many gaming markets particularly in Africa and Asia, being almost entirely mobile.
