WhatsApp bumps to v1.5, gets group chat

WhatsApp is continuing its slow and gradual ascent by going to v1.5 tonight. While once again nothing major has happened, it did manage to pick up the ability to create group chats, which we suppose will be important for many of you.

The popular chat client came to Windows Phone just over 3-months ago and since has received an update every few weeks. While it still lacks features of its iOS sibling, it's clear the developers of WhatsApp are committed to updating the app on a regular basis and that's a good thing. Other changes:

  • able to delete large conversations
  • faster insertion and removal of messages to and from local storage
  • faster creation of favorites

Pick up WhatsApp v1.5 here in the Marketplace. Thanks, Jun H., for the tip!

  • But I have been part of a group chat since the launch of this on WP7.5?
  • Yeah, but you couldn't start them, only be invited to them.
  • Fair enough, I forgot about that part :P
  • It could be me, but WhatsApp is now working much faster on my HTC Trophy (7.5)
  • To me too. It's really noticeable the way it opens like 2x or 3x faster.
  • No real improvement on my Omnia 7. It's still painfully slow and ugly. It's a real showstopper for me
  • I don't feel eny speed improvements either. Opening a chat is still laggy and slow. And starting the app still takes 5 or 6 seconds on my HTC HD7. But it's pretty cool that they push updates for WhatsApp frequently. I hope the final version will be released soon. I'm still missing a lot of features like the emoticons and stuff.
  • I can definitely feel it is much faster on my Samsung Focus 1.3
  • Eventually the textbox scrolls with long messages...
  • Still way too slow on WP7 and still really buggy!
  • Crashy, slow and just plain buggy for me. Mozart. Still wondering how this passed QA. Toast notification which has a long message would make the app crash. Bad bad. Fixxor is needed.
  • Your site is good Actually, i have seen your post and That was very informative and very entertaining for me. Thanks for posting Really Such Things. I should recommend your site to my friends. Cheers.
