Windows 10 Mobile updates for older Windows Phones delayed until early 2016

It looks like owners of older smartphones with Windows Phone 8 or 8.1 will have to wait a bit longer to get their promised over-the-air update to Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft has now officially confirmed that those updates won't begin until sometime in early 2016, rather than December as the company previously announced.

Here's the official statement from a Microsoft spokesperson, as posted at Thurrott:

"This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones."

Owners of older Windows Phones will likely have more luck getting their update to Windows 10 Mobile by signing up for the Windows Insider program.

  • Coming soon... in the first half of 2016...
  • Or, here now on Insider :)
  • yes, with bugs
  • You can get a spray...right? =[
  • That's what I did. I put that ***** on my L640. Insider style
  • Is win 10 working fine for lumia 640?
  • Yes
  • ...but only if your phone is supported! + Samsung Ativ S jeeeej. Hate it.
  • I use to have Samsung ATIV S.
Good phone. Better than most Lumias at the time (bar 925).
    However, 930 is different league.
  • Just change the registry. It works great on Ativ.
  • oh, whaaaaat? word. =p
  • Im keeping it as is. Not worth it yet. Been using it on a l929 instead sadly ive lost interest in reinstalling apps or using it. Too many sites I use still have various problems & my carriers account app doesn't work & datasense counter still randomly resets frequently
  • Insider doesn't count/ It makes the phone almost non usable. Seeing the state of Windows Mobile 10, it is not surprising that it is delayed. It is just regular Microsoft.
  • ive been using windows 10 for months on my mobile 930 and its one of the most stable os experiences i have had.  Usually i install the new update have 2-3 wierd issues on day one then after day one everything is great.  II couldnt even use the term unusable 3 months ago cause it wouldnt fit with my 930 experience.  Maybe unusable 6-8 months ago but not now.  Now if your talking about lower older cheaper phones then ok but certainly not the lumia 930.  Last buil no crashes,  i use plex netflix all the time and no crashes i the last few weeks.  All my apps open significantly fast.  no problems with  the start menu unless butter smooth is a issue.  Grove music downloads and updates are all working great and fast.  Wif fi simply works where ever i go and it remembers all my passwords lol.  I have 3 emails linked to 1 live tile and it works great and a 4th email on a seperate live tile.  Actually only issue i have found is my message live tile doesnt always refresh. intagrap app 6tag is wonderful,  Kype is good but not yet finished and need ts to ring faster on both mobile and desktop. Photo app, camera and groove are super and reliable, yeh hamburger on groove mobile needs to go. Spotify works great.  You tube doesnt crash anymore and is very reliable on both metro tube and tube cast.  Kodie remote works great, though its new design is a little worste. One drive, here maps and here drive all work great.  All my games work and are very smooth.  I just dont know where to place the word unusable into this, maybe if i had a cheap android phone i could say unusable?.the 19 build was the firft built i didnt have to use my revert back to 8.1 and do a fresh install without a restore option.  So maybe try and do a fresh install on your phone without the restore to old, i know thats supoer anoying but it might stop your phone being unusable. if you have any battery issues also its just a app or 2 that youll need to find and uninstal but my battery issues were not really a isse for me.
  • Totally agree Jason. W10 is faster and Microsoft have now include swipe from the left to get the menu in Groove. And, if you put the Store app in Landscape the menu is tabs. The new W10 phones like the 640 have the addition of double tap the menu bar to switch off the phone, as well as Glance and double tap to wake. W10 on my 930 (now damaged and about to be replaced) and my SP3 is simply awesome. Unusable and unstable just dont apply here!
  • Some bluetooth troubles and notifications on the lock screen are a bit hit or miss, but many things are running faster than they did on 8.1 and the visual improvements (lumia icon) are noticeable and nice looking.  Sending links via email is still pretty slow at some steps but improving.  Battery life is about where 8.1 was maybe a bit better.  A few apps need to be undone and redone sometimes.  Engaget app doesn't work, but website does so no worries.  Browser doesn't clean itself up (tabs just build up and need manual sweeping out) every time you open, but again, minor stuff.  Touch is a tiny bit more prone to mistaking a tap for an angled swipe in 10 vs 8.1, but again, pretty sure they can gradually refine that (low fruit).  Overall its enough of a visual treat that others have commented how nice the screen and actions are on the phone and are surprised windows now looks like that.  They are impressed when they see it.
  • Release date will likely be around the same time as the 650. February-April
  • Ya, I think It's Microsoft Marketing Strategy that If Win10M for Older WP may release early, most Older WP users will not upgrade to newer devices.
  • Maybe installing it on older phones will brick them and people will just give up. At least that's my case for another 2 years.
  • It is better to have a good release rather than a pre-matured early release.  We learned that from L950/XL.
  • +1020
  • Yangstax, it's just "premature release" (no hyphen and no need to add the word "early"), otherwise you're effectively saying "a too early early release". Sorry, I just had to point that out, I definitely agree with you though! ;)
  • Are we talking phones or matters of an intimate nature?
  • It works either way. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • That's what s/he said? =[
  • @yangstax: My average 6 year old kids lol'd. I am not allowed to upgrade W8.1.1 of my 640 to W10 of the 950XL. They don't like it, the bugs, the apps missing. Still happy myself except for the high lowest screen brightness. I am amazed at how such young ones discern their discomfort so clearly, and consider it advisably for MS to check that level as well. Would SJ have done? lol
  • Buhahahahahahahaha! And then delayed until end of 2016 and then releasing along with iOS10.
  • yawn
  • I like my Windows Phone 8.1 OS. I don't mind waiting for a fully baked Windows 10 mobile OS for my 1520, 920 and my lady's 640.
  • They just want people to buy new phones that's all.
  • I agree. They are like "buy new phones if you want new features. we might not support your old one" LOL
  • They are as good as Apple in supporting their old phones
  • Like every other phone company, no?
  • If they don't hurry up, apps will start leaving windows 10 mobile before it even launches.
  • The question is, though: Is anyone surprised?
  • If they pushed to the masses with serious bugs, like motion tracking not working, WiFi, mobile hotspot failing on some models, they would leave themselves wide open to litigation, as they would make handset not fit for purpose.
  • Early 2016 meaning after two weeks? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • i think no, it means sometime in early months of 2016 like January or February or even in march
  • Are you Clairvoyant or you just saying it for kicks? You have no more idea than the rest of us. 2016 is in two weeks. I leave you with the weegie board...
  • Ouija board*
  • I heard you have to use one of those while saying "ouijaouijaouija..." is that true? =[
  • LOL we all know what "early 2016" means. If it were in 2 or 3 weeks or in a month they would have said so, to get people excited.
  • Maybe even June, July or August, you never know!
  • Well, at first, they said that this is due later this year. Now, its early next year. Then it might be late next year. So it means that we will receive it early 2017. /s
  • Denim/ 8.1 Update 1 was supposed to be released around this time last year but got delayed to January/February of this year. Hopefully the delay will be about the same with Windows 10.
  • Denim was Nokia firmware, 8.1 was windows phone OS from Microsoft. 2 different companies at the time. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Nope! Early 2016 means the first quarter..that extends upto March! And might be as late as end of April too..
  • I want windows 10 mobile upgrade but I can wait for the bugs to be iron out...
  • It will have bugs regardless as usual
  • lots of protein... =p
  • Exactly why it's being delayed - they want to get this RIGHT. If bugs don't bother people they can and should just go Insider. =P
  • Then they should concentrate on the basics first.
  • Just go Slow and you'll be all right ;-)
  • Pfft. No. I went slow and it wasn't alright.
  • At this point I don't care how much it takes as long as they keep the work until W10Mobile performance and battery management is not as good but better than 8.1
  • Same here. I'm glad that it's been delayed.
  • I can assure you, win10 will never run great on old devices, especially on dual-core ones. I can see a freaqing huge difference between 950 and my 1020, on bugs and everything, my 1020 having the newest version... I know, i know, people come like screaming, yeah 950 has monster hardware, well, before win 10 there wasn't such an issue;). I mean, there are really small diferences on day to day usage conparing flagships on 8.1 with older flagship versions, if there were any!!!
  • Then theres quirks like edge which depending how in-touch those devs are may fix eventually this year
  • I had a Lumia 1020 and still have a Lumia 930, the difference was night and day on Windows 10 Mobile - It runs great on the 930 for me. The 930 is a completely different beast to the 1020. I loved owning the Lumia 1020 for 2 years but it is a very slow phone compared to the 930 and better.
  • I don't know what your use case is but my 1020 was painfully slow. I actually celebrated when I destroyed it.
  • my 930 has veryually no issues with win 10, i miss my gestures but its superfast and very reliable and thats a old device.
  • Depends on your device, but you may be waiting a loooong time based to the SP4/SB battery issues.
  • Key word is "select" existing phones..which is not promising for all devices.
  • and as stated eariler they are doing wave roll outs, they have selected a first wave of models, then the rest will be in the 2 wave.
  • We've known this for some time now. Delays sucks, but it's necessary with mobile devices because they risk running off the handful of users they currently have if "ruin" existing phones with new software.
  • Go to Microsofts site it states 640, 640XL att and unlocked / 735 Verizon. This for the US site. There may be a few more but not much.
  • And the 630, 635 and 730 also. It seems they targeting the phones with snapdragon 400 chipset for the first wave.
  • And, in the second wave, will there be the Samsung ATIV S ? ...
  • The ATIV S will probably never get the update. I used an ATIV S for over a year after 8.1 was released and it never got the update officially from Samsung. Since many models of the ATIV S did not get 8.1, it is very unlikely they will get 10.
  • I still don't get why people bought that crap. Oh well, have fun with it:))).
  • It was the best for your dollar raw specs-wise in can/euro
  • Early 2016 = last week of Q1
  • hahaha.. :p
  • Last 20 minutes! :|
  • i was trying to be nice but yeah pretty much
  • That would be
  • That's the way T-mobile do it. Then it ends up halfway through next quarter. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • As expected.. Coming 'Soon'.. LOL! I don't know why MS has to announce new hardware and software so early, if they can't make it on time?!
They should've said it will rollout only on 2016 from the beginning itself!
  • So you've never encountered an unexpected problem that created a delay ever in your life? Must be awesome to be you...
  • Never something that has delayed me for months.
  • Have you ever made a whole phone and OS?
  • Yes he has never made it and also will never promise to make it to finally release a half baked product after delaying and making insider programs for 11months and making users give justifications that are totally baseless. Loyal fans grow up. You have no idea about how baseless your comment is when you put it comparing with the competition, market trends and consumers. Your whole phone OS doesn't have apps, its half baked, it doesn't have half the features, Cortana most parts of the world still have alpha and beta is ****... What more? But though I still stick on to wp, doesn't mean I give some baseless justifications like u do for the delay.
  • Uh, try rereading? he said he has never been delayed for months and I was merely pointing out that that is because he has never done a project of this scale. And by the way ad Hominem attacks really aren't becoming.
  • Actually, the emj guy is right. After 11 mounths of developing with so many users...is a bit funny that ms is still unable to release a freaqing good version. I mean, they released three phones that run crapp *** OS. AFTER 11 F**KING MOUNTHS. Or maybe even more....
  • Lumia 950 and 950XL users are the mass porting testers..
  • So you have ?? That's a lame argument. The insider program have been running for couple of months. Its already late even for beta testing. Its kinda like gamma testing you know the one where they postpones the release date. Yeah I read the article right first wave right. Well majority of the users lies in the other half. Yeah I am frustrated and I have every right to. Been with windows for too long?? everyone gets frustrated. I think its called resuming or may be loading Im not sure well Im in a state of both.. :)
  • when you say the insider program has been running for a couple of months what do you mean?  Ive been using the mobile insider for alot longer now since february thats about 10 months dude a little more than the 2 you have mentioned. I have seen microsoft go from being really slow at updating things in the last few months to some very nice faster paced updates and its also been showing with their third party developers too,  im geting alot of updates all the time now.  To me i see microsoft geting better and better(as long as they dont do another marketing mistake like their onedrive anouncement that they took back and apolagised for.)  We all have to remember microsoft is working hard and fundimentally changeing its whoolle structure but at the end of it well have 1 app to rule all devices, personally i dont mind waiting a little for that to happen smoothly.  I just wont wait years, but a few months is absolutly fine at this stage, especially when we keep seeing the improvements every few weeks. Personaly i thing gratz to microsoft for theyir hard work  followed by a ple dont miss market anything else.
  • Dude, ur justifications are so immature which is why the wp will never have market share more than 3%. Its competition out there and whether he has encountered or not, 11 months of insider and still delaying is ****..
  • But with Microsoft and Windows Phone this has become the norm, not a one off delay.
  • In the state Win10 Mobile was 3 months ago, we all knew it wouldn't be ready in 3 months. I was surprised when they released the timeline. I'm more surprised how they released 2 phones with this software at the state it is! I don't think even Microsoft thought 950(XL) were going to sell well. They had already selected the target audience: Microsoft "super fans" who wouldn't mind buying a non-flagship looking flagship with an incomplete OS, for the same price or even higher price of a full-fledged, ready to go flagship. The funny thing is the cancelled 850 looks A LOT more flagship and much prettier than either of them!
  • But......it's worth the wait :)
  • You stay there buddy. I have been staying there for too long since WP7 days.
  • New hardware? The new hardware has Windows 10 Mobile, what are you talking about? This only concerns old hardware
  • Life happens...
  • They announced new hardware and software, and delivered on it. I have my Lumia 950XL sitting in front of me. They (when Nokia) also released the hardware this is for years ago, in the form of the 920. This is putting the software on existing phones, using the carrier's networks where they need to abide by their rules, not them pushing out an upgrade when they want to. During the beta phase people where whining and complaining that builds were not released fast enough. Then when there was a build and something didn't work, people like you would complain about all the bugs. If there was some bug that bricked an older phone, people would be demanding that Microsoft replace their phone, but you also want that update now. The entitlement culture on display.
  • You explained it exactly!!!!!
  • The entitlement culture is disgusting and embarrassing.
  • You sir enjoy your lumia. Everyone could afford a phone now and then you know poor people stuff. I recently read an article that states microsoft could release updates without any carrier hindrance.    You still know its been a couple of months the OS is in beta people expect atleast an update in a month or two and if in it the previous bugs are still present or more annoying they could complain. Well thats what beta is for right. Agree you on the bricking thing. But people are forced to join insiders. What would you say to a guy who whines about the late update release. Go be an insider right.
  • your not forced to go on insider at all, you have to chose it.  Not everyone wants to be a insider.  On my desktop i stoped being a insider cause i like what i got now and i got what i need.  On mobile im a insider but once i have a full working intigrated skype, windows geatures and a apple pay format ill also stop being a insider cause ill have what i want.
  • People feel like they have to go insider because they don't get what they want. Microsoft should have protected WP8.1 instead of partially abandoning it while trying to beta-test W10M. Now they have two crippled OSes and no actually OS at hand.
  • Sadly this happened with Cyan and Denim too.
  • Well, to be fair Windows 10 is technically a 2018 OS... =p
  • Yeah, and that is why, will never be Official:))
  • No news there is still not ready for windows 10.
  • This laziness cost Microsoft so much and Microsoft is regular in their laziness
  • You are right, they sit around all day doing nothing but laughing at all you people for buying their products while they count their money. I bet right now they are not even at work, probably at some bar reading your post and laughing at you. And based on your name (and language) I assume you are in India. I work a few miles from the Microsoft campus, if you were to write "When in India" I bet I would hear them laughing at you from where I am at.
  • Neel, there's a solution. Just sign up for the Windows Insider program, and you can get the build RIGHT AWAY. It's very stable.
  • Lol, if you didn't mention Microsoft one would think you were talking about CoD developers.
  • Comment from Microsoft : ^^ The above comment @nohone: YOU JUST SPOKE WHAT WAS THERE IN OUR MIND.
  • It is Christmas break technically... =p
  • I wander if you work, cause such a great mentality can't tell me but one thing: He is 16
  • Rightly said! Lol
  • i hope so after all its christmas and well i have a fully funtioning reliable phone with weindows 10 and desktop with windows 10 working great 2, i say go enjoyu your christmas microsoft you do deserve it and plse when you come back in january can you get windows gestures working back on the 930 :)))) prety plse, january late is fine too.
  • Never had any plans to update anyway. Hamburgers dont go with my diet....
  • Nice one
  • Swipe in from the left brings in menu and Store in Landscape has tabs. It's looking better and better on W10 - I would not return to 8.1 now.
  • There are still plenty of pivots so you get your exercise
  • Hahaha.
  • As long as Windows 10 Mobile is more stable by then, they can take their time!
  • Off topic, but am I the only one that keeps getting smartscreen errors on WC?   Content on this website has been reported as unsafe static.reelfeed.tv Hosted by:  www.windowscentral.com

  • February ???
  • "to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones"   I won't even comment. I'll just wait for the eventual sh*tstorm that Microsoft will get once they eventually leave out a bunch of phones...   That said, I have absolutely no plans of updating any of my old Nokia Lumias to WP10. I've been testing it on a Nokia 830 and the thing is worse than WP8.1 in almost every way. And if USB OTG isn't going to be put on older hardware, then there's really no reason for me to subject the phones to a buggier version of the OS just "because". Specially on the 1020.
  • wen 4 HTC 8X? ;)
  • Please... Anyone who reads DjCBS and is thinking about upgrading using the windows insider program, ask someone else about their upgrade before taking his word for it. Win10 is infact much better than 8.1 IMHO and I think getting a few opinions will give anyone who maybe on the fence clarity....for the record..very few if any issues with the build before this latest update... On my 635,640,821,830,925,1020,1320 and 1520
  • How on earth do you have so many phones?
  • He got me beat 925 1520 520 640
  • When in India?
  • With AT&T certainly...I only have half of those because I'm with T-Mo. Honestly if they didn't cripple the 810, I'd still be using it =[
  • How did they cripple it? by not updating it?   I was able to update mine through the developer preview. I wish they did offically update it though, new firmware would have been nice.
  • Yeah everyone, listen to the guy that owns 8 Lumias. I'm sure he is un-biased lol
  • The "freedom" and "features" that Windows 10 bring were already available in Android. We didn't stick around WP for its features, but for the design. Now Windows 10 looks like a buggier, less stable Android with features that haven't matured yet. Honestly anyone who finds Windows 10 Mobile intriguing should choose a messy droid. P.S. "Continuum" is basically Android having TV Out through USB Type 3, scaling its UI to the connected screen, just like how it works on tablets. It's not like any Win32 programs are going to run on the phone, so it isn't different from Android on a larger screen. I say this because Continuum is being advertised as kind of a revolution, but if Google decides tomorrow that they want this feature, they can easily implement it in the next Android release. The device just needs to support 2 displays. Everything else stays the same.
  • yeh my 930 is awsome too.  even though i feel windows 8.1 is the best mobile os ever i am still useing windows 10 mobile over it now.  dont get me wrong i love windows mobile 10 but its not the consistansy ui that 8.1 was, if you took awy hamburger menu and gave use back gestures, have a full working apple pay method then yes i would label windows 10 as the best mobile os ever, **** hamburger change alone would ern it that status from me.  But having 4 colums of live tiles on my 930, skype intergration, new photo app and new netflix, plex apps alone make windows 10 mobile prety dam apealing to me, Live tiles is even better, i love my calender and weekly view, groove is a huge imp[rovment over xbox music but i still want a swiping player not a hamburger one, and yeh more album views so i can see instead of 4-5 albums at one time maybe a full 5ich worth with 25-30 albums per page.   Ether way i still love my windows experience.
  • Some have said it's not so great on dual-core processors, be interesting to hear if that's true or not. Hey, we all have preferences and I accept yours, but running 10586.29 on my 930 is faster and no bugs....lucky.....maybe. But, I would never return to 8.1 now. My 930 had an accident yesterday and damaged so checked out the Lumia 550, 640 and 950 and was pleasantly surprised. The on screen keys allow double tap on the menu bar to switch off the phone, which I liked. May get the 640 as a reserve in case the 930 dies. It has Glance, double tap to wake and switch off and is £129. For the price that's impressive. The 950 does actually look great with Dark Theme but a bit too much as a reserve phone.....for now.
  • I think the 640 is pretty sweet... =D
  • It runs great for me on my Lumia 930 too. I tried the latest 10586 on my Lumia 435 test device too....Ran very well. Obviously not as fast and smooth as the 930 but they are completely different beasts. A much better experience than when I was running older builds on the Lumia 1020 (Which I don't have anymore, so can't comment on the latest builds on that particular phone)
  • I've tried W10 Mobile on various Lumias and every single one of them ran better than on 8.1. Mind you I did a hard-reset before hand. Same goes with Window 10 on PC. Format before installing it and it runs much better.
  • The Nokia 830 I'm testing it in is a dedicated device I have for it. It's always hard reseted and all versions are fresh installed because there's absolutely no problem in wipping out the entire phone. It's still a worst experience than 8.1 with lags, loadings, stutters and a completely shattered UI experience. I do have a 930 but it's my "Xbox Portable" (ie, a gaming device) and I won't be installing WP10 in it even for testing. All my other WP devices are Lumias prior to the 830 and 930 (because I don't buy non-Nokia Lumias). SO, if WP10 runs this poorly on a Nokia 830, it's pretty obvious to me that I won't be putting it on the 920, 820, 630, 620 and most definitely not on the 1020 that I have here. I won't put it on the 930 either (unless Microsoft eventually puts Continuum on the 930 which I doubt) and the 830 will probably be flashed back to 8.1 once Microsoft kills WP/W10M altogether after the release of the "Surface Phone".
  • its great on the 930 you definatly wouldnt regret it.  I only really miss one thing that i used all the time on 8.1 and thats windows gestures.
  • Will it come to Lumia 720 ?
  • Never
    So shut up now please
Thank you and go out and enjoy your life out of your smartphone
  • Only via the Insider Program
  • Don't worry it will eventually come.
  • Come with freezing screen XD
  • Sure, why not....
  • I just updated my Lumia 730 to build 10586.36 via the Windows Insider Program, and I can safely say that it is ready for general use. I haven't encountered any bugs.
  • Same here. Runs smooth. Lumia 735 Verizon.
  • Stability, battery life and speed is top-notch for me (Lumia 640), has been for several builds already. There are a few visual bugs in some places that still haven't been fixed even after two cumulative updates but no deal-breakers.
  • Hey, have any of you noticed that when you click the lock button to resume using the phone, it takes a second or two to display the date and time instead of instantly popping up?
  • Works fine for me.
  • Are you on the latest build? That was definitely a more common issue in older builds. I see it happen every now and again on my 930 but not often and it doesn't really bother me too much.
  • Yeah. I checked. That lock screen is not much of an issue, but once or twice, it does take a second or two for the time to pop up.
  • This has been an issue from the very beginning of Insider program. Yet to see a olution to this. It seems this is not counted as an "issue" at Microsoft.
  • Same 930 on 586.29
  • Same here on Lumina Icon. Fater battery life better than 8.1. functionallity , etc.  If it keeps getting better. . . WOW!
  • It's 3 hours later. How about now? Any bugs?
  • How well does the 920 work with the most recent builds?
  • Okay. But not daily driver ready. More than enough lag to make it a little annoying to use.
  • Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.
  • Not well. Hold on to 8.1.
  • Recent builds have been stable enough to use as daily driver. No big bugs or lagging that is noticeable. Updating to 10586.36 from 10586.29 on my Lumia 920 as I'm typing this.
  • I had seriously battery life issues on 10581 and 10586.  Like, to the point where I felt like I couldn't use my phone (or even have it on in standby) for fear of not having any battery left in the evening.  I went back to 8.1 and plan on keeping it there.  Don't know if the new updates fixed anything, but if it's your DD, I'd think twice before doing it.  The phone was almost constantly warm, so I'm not even sure Snapdragon S4 is really up to the task (which, it's old, so it may not be).  640 and 830 owners have reported better success.  I'm still in love with my 920 so I plan on holding out as long as possible before upgrading (also hoping for a nice mid-range 750/850-esque model).
  • "When in India" and when "will it officially launch on my phone" comments coming......
    PLEASE STOP IT INDIANS!!!!!!!
    WE GET IT
    YOU ARE IMPATIENT
But this is getting out of hands
For God's sake, please moderatos do something about it
  • Being an Indian myself, I agree with you on that, man. I find it EXTREMELY ANNOYING. If you go to the Microsoft Lumia India page, you'll notice that there are plenty of ill-informed users who still keep asking again and again, "When will Windows 10 Mobile launch for my Lumia?" UGH. So irritating. Thanks for bringing that up, man. I'm happy to see that there is someone else here who agrees with me on this particular issue.
  • Seriously bro. Just to clarify, I am not trying to be racist here but every time I go to an article about Windows 10, that's it Windows 10, "When will my phone or when in India bla bla bla"! Like its all Indian only. Everybody knows that it would be delayed just like last year's Black update which was stated to be released at this same timeframe but OH MY GOD THIS????
For real, anymore comments and I am going on fire now.
    Somebody has to stop this!
  • I know that you're not being racist. I am very well aware that you're just expressing your opinion, and I appreciate that. I think if an admin were to step in and tell them, then they'd probably stop asking all together and be patient like everyone else.
  • I don't know man but this has to stop cuz if not now, it will never stop since Windows is a service, they will be asking for builds again and again and again..... Like, you know what I mean......
  • You should also consider that new users may be joining WC every now and then. India, like many other developing countries, is not that mature, when it comes to commenting on the internet. Not only on this website but numerous. Even on news websites, I see stupid comments. People comment on the news articles as if they are talking to support executives. Most of them are kids/teens who have just had their first smartphone/PC and are just too excited. It will take many, many years before this maturity will come in the audience. The only solution to this is to bear them till then. Edit: I am not talking about all Indians. You also have the likes of Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella. It's that the country is still 'developing'.
  • I guess its a running joke. Just like the seems faster joke that runs here in WC. It will wear out eventually. No need to call in the moderators.
  • Seems faster seems funny you know like EVERYONE was saying it but this,
NO WAY! I guarantee it NO WAY! Wanna know why?
Because Windows is now a service and these ppl will be like PLEASE NEW BUILD PLEASE NEW BUILD PLEASE NEW BUILD PLEASE NEW BUILD
I even guarantee this that on the Christmas days, go check Gabe's twitter and if you don't see any Indian complaining about builds, then you can come to me again
  • Wen in Rome :)
  • Sorry. You don't qualify for the joke.
  • Why so serious ?? :)
  • ☺☺☺☺
  • No surprise. Always coming soon. Mobile needs some major ironing out anyway so the experience can be enjoyable. But the 950 is getting great reviews (see att reviews) and the apps are coming soon so it's not all bad.
  • That way it's get pushed back so they can do just that
  • I just went and bought a Android phone to be my main phone, after using a Windows phone for the past three years. I will keep my Windows phone as a secondary phone so they can take as long as they want to push out W10. Soon has been coming for just too long.
  • Well with Android you'll likely be waiting even longer for updates if at all.
  • True it depends on the manufacturer and carrier just like it does on WP. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Yep if you want an Android I'd recommend Nexus and for Windows Lumia. But if you want guaranteed updates go with iPhone.
  • This just solidified my recent decision in moving over to another platform, have a feeling come 2016 we’ll be met with “sorry, your 1020/830 no longer meets the criteria set out for W10M”, both have now been relegated as my secondary devices too.
  • How's W10 on the 1020?
  • Not bad at all. I've had it since day 1 and wouldn't go back to 8.1. I'm on. 950xl now tho so haven't tried the last two builds on the 1020
  • I've only heard a couple of users having issues but to hear them tell it, "it's a GD EPIDEMIC AAAAA.." lol =p
  • I've been using it for about a month. It's quite good. Better than 8.1 for sure. There is a bit of sluggishness from time to time in that there are too many instances when starting an app that there is a black screen for about 20 seconds or so, depending on the app. It doesn't crash, though, so I'd say that it's reasonably stable.
  • I already told you friends!!! February is the month I guessed!!
  • I'll pass.  My 1020 will stay on 8.1.
  • Thanks Nadella.
  • Considering the current build certainly doesn't feel finished I am not surprised.
  • Might consider going with the Insider build on my main 1520 then. I've only been using it on a 920 so not much of a point of reference there. Any recommendations? How would you guys rate it as a daily driver thing? Most bugs gone?
  • My daily driver 1520 is really running smooth on win 10 (586.36)... A few bugs like Facebook contacts not syncing with people hub and WiFi sense...
  • That's good to hear that no issues with the major features. I don't mind the fluffy features not working (Facebook contacts). Windows 8.1 isn't perfect on that front either...
  • Runs fantastically on my Lumia 930, so you could definitely get the same results on the 1520 I'd imagine - I have communicated with other 930 owners on Twitter and not everybody has had as smooth an experience as myself, but the complaints are much much less common with every build. There's no advantage to Windows Phone 8.1 in my eyes.
  • Thanks for the feedback. Does seem that way about complaints and I'm getting pretty confident everytime a new build is rolled out. It still remains a bit of a mess on the 920 but that's to be anticipated since the phone is now 3 years old.
  • I'm guessing they were trying to roll out before the holidays but didn't quite make it so it'll be very soon after the first of the year.
  • Look on the bright side folks, with the wave of Universal apps coming on board you just might be able to buy that cup of coffee when you get W10 update!
  • Happy Easter
  • "older" phones?! That means each and every phone except the brand new 950(XL)?! And only select models will receive it early 2016, that means that the other models will receive it even later (most models were to receive W10M)?
  • By that time, maybe 950 will be old too.;D
  • Another two months and then the OS will be acceptable for general release. It's a good decision. I'll wait till then to buy my 950 XL.
  • Does that mean my older device my lumia 920 won't get Windows 10 mobile?
  • You are kinda missing the point here. All existing Lumias will get Windows 10 in 2016. That includes your Lumia and my Lumia.
  • Pretty much defeats the purpose of bypassing carriers for updates when you still have to wait months after announcement for Microsoft to release updates to "select" phones. But now that I think of it, it really doesn't matter anymore. No matter when they release I'm sure it will be buggy as ****. I know their are always bugs with these things from other companies, but Microsoft really takes it to a whole other level.
  • Going from 8/8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile still needs to go through the carriers (Unless you go to W10M via Insider Preview). Once onto Windows 10 Mobile, that's when the carrier approval is bypassed.
  • Buuuhahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha
  • You need to breath man.
  • He's online, it could last for hours...lol =p
  • Lol
  • The OS is quite solid as it is ... if you really want it go insider and stop crying.
  • It feels digital to me... ;p
  • Shocker. Thank God for insider program. I've been giving VZW my "you're #1" finger for 2 months now.
  • I call it the number 2 finger... =)
  • Anything about the 8X getting the update? 'cause it isn't supported by the insider program too
  • If you are talking about the HTC 8X, then it ain't likely that you will ever get it before the existing Lumias.
  • Is holidays in usa
  • soon
  • That's why I'm part of the Insider Program
  • interesting. What I read was that windows 10 for older models would start from the new year. Thus surprised it would already be available now. The Lumias 950/959xl have only just been released. It makes sense older models would start January/February 2016. I am expecting my Windows 10 for my Lumia 1520 in February 2016.
  • If window 10 mobile is not yet ready, why did ms said by the end of the year, or the primary objective was to market to Lumia 950/950xl.
  • Better late than sorry. Although I love most of the new features introduced in Windows 10 in connectivity, office apps, UWP platform, start screen customizations, more quick actions, new file explorer, new and improved browsing experience through edge browser; there are still a few things I'd like for them to improve on, like page loading, those page loading dots animation or loading or resuming screens although have been better with recent builds, still show their head from time to time which needs to be squished. Also, the web wrapper based Cortana search experience in Windows 10 isn't that great, really miss the native cortana search experience in WP8.1. Then there is this new facebook app which is very slow. I hope Microsoft figures this out before rolling out the update to existing phones globally. Until then I'm in no hurry, particularly because I'm already enjoying the new and improved functionality of Windows 10 through insider builds on my spare phone.
  • Less fragmentation........ Tried insider preview ten times, no joy. Getting faster in the release arena
  • BWAHAHA!!!!...That's all.
  • What older phones? Older than 950?? And what about phones who doesnt belong to insiders program!?(8x, 8xt, ativ s... Etc)
  • For Ativ S just edit registry. Win 10 works great on it.
  • Does anyone know if W10 mobile will have support for mobile payments? Not really a feature I need but it would be nice to have. Feel like picking up a back up WP device to use every now and then along with my Android phone. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Who cares. I'm already using windows 10 mobile ;)
  • I knew it. I knew this would happen.
  • And the story of Microsoft's screw ups with Windows Phone continues... Looking forward to the announcement in 2016 that you decided to screw over Lumia 1020 owners again and not upgrade us to Win10.
  • They give us insider previews, people bemoan about pretty much all of it. Full of bugs, load of rubbish, I'm off to crapple etc....blah blah blah. Oh, and the classic, it broke my phone.....teach you to not read the t's&c's They release w10m with 950 / 950xl. Same people who like to hear their own voices up in arms about how pi**poor MSFT are as a company etc.... I guess that crapple and droid don't get things wrong eh?? From my experience with droid, we have nothing to worry about here. Same old people now kicking off about the release for 'older' versions being put back. Economics 101. You do NOT upgrade previous gen devices straight away, especially when you have just released something like the 950 series. Look at Samdung, they never update a device when a newer invention of the wheel is just hitting stores. Why would you release 10M before Xmas when you are hoping to fill a few sacks with your latest device?? At least we are getting an updated. I know of Samsung owners who are still stuck with 4.2.2 on galaxy aces. Luckily, I can cook ROMs and have sorted them out. So why not just let it ride until the update is ready, rather than stamp your feet, try and be the loudest voice, throw teddies out of the pram, or my personal favourite, I'm off to iOS or droid. Don't say it, DO IT! Leave the rest of us to get on with things. No one is making you stay here
  • I get really depressed reading all the wining people here, c'mon it is the first release of a new OS. Been using 10568.29 on my 930 and WhatsApp has been crashing the OS initially. Then they came out with a few updates and no problems since. Been very stable and snappy. .36 should improve even more and I can say I am pretty happy…. In the end it is just a phone and not a pacemaker. C’mon folks, time to get ready for Xmas and think of our family and friends :). Happy Holidays!
  • It's a gong show at Microsoft. Embarrassing
  • Why? it was never going to be priority for microsoft considering they have just went thru a major product launch. I think most are very lucky to be getting it at all tbf. Android you're lucky if the new o/s goes back one version of the hardware and Apple you don't have much choice.... At least Microsoft are trying to help people with older versions even though they are a complete pain in the ****...
  • iOS 9 supports all the way back to the iPhone 4s.
  • Why not compare with Apple? Why Android? More aptly, Apple is the competitor, not Google.
  • oh! I just moved to 640XL from 920.
  • I have the update from insider fast and it's verry stabile. It works verry smooth on my Lumia 640XL
  • I am just still thinking if I should just up grade via insider
  • Doesn't bother me, my 640 is running like a champ with 8.1, not sure really what W10 will do for it or me to make it any better and I'd just as soon let them figure out all the bugs first anyway.
  • Windows 10 from the Insider program runs alright except for internet sharing not working at all which for me is very important, bad battery life, a bunch of annoying errors when trying to update apps, etc Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • So these new windows 10 apps such as the cricket australia app are coming out and can't make use of them because windows 10 has been further delayed on my phone as an official update? And no I don't want to be an insider who deals with buggy updates. I have enough issues on a daily basis dealing with the outlook(mail)preview which microsoft forced upon unsuspecting regular users and replaced a working email system with a buggy one.
  • Before I bought my 950, I had W10 running on my 925. My kid is using W10 on his 925, my wife is using W10 on her 925. They didn't read too many posts and they think its great. W10 works for most people. Some are fanatical about perfection. Stay on W8.1 or Apple or Android because we know all three are bullet proof! LOL. If you want W10 on your device, join the insider program. Report problems you have and make it better for all of us. Just quit whining! PLEASE!
  • You know what's much worse than whining? Whining about people whining. These threads are supposed to be for discussion and expressing your feelings about whatever the topic. Why do people like you feel the need to moderate the discussion?
  • I see discussion but the vast majority of posts are rants about crap software, release dates, etc. Plenty of choices out there if you want to change....
  • This story is about a delayed release date! What the **** do you expect the discussion to be about!? People rant, so what? It's not your job to be a scold.
  • I think his point is 'Beggars cannot be choosers' Microsoft were under no obligation to support these devices.. Get on the insider 'Help us Help You' instead of making our real win 10 customers whine about your whining. Now you have a scenario where i,m whining about someone whining about someone whining about someone whining.... It will be ready when its ready be grateful.... Personally i think it the upgrade should be run on a russian Roulette basis  Win 10 mobile or Win NT4 for mobile...
  • LOL X-topher. And it's a free upgrade...
  • Very generous of Microsoft. I forgot all about how you have to pay for Android/iOS updates.
  • LOL.   Made me smile in one of the Windows Central Microsoft is Satan articles.
  • You know what's worse much than whining about people whining? Maybe nothing, idk...lol ;p
  • +1 for your kid,
+1 for your wife (non complaining woman = Awesome)
    +1 for bullet proof
    +1 for perfection fanatics
    -1 for whining
  • Does anyone know if the Samsung Ativ S Neo will be able to update to win10 or the insider preview?
  • Early 2016 means first 3 months. Mmm ok. I wait 9 months to born.
  • Good idea given the crap experience two friends have had upon upgrading their phones to W10. My experience with the 950 isn't much better, so there's clearly a ton that still needs fixing.
  • I wonder if MS stock got a hit today.
  • It better be good
  • Humm, it's Ballmer time. Nadella don't have balls to make those people work wright.
  • The longer regular users take to get the build (and the messier the update process gets) the less developers will trust the platform. Yeah. Time to jump off the bandwagon.
  • It’s a domino effect and the reason I chose to exit recently, that was before this latest announcement so now I feel we’ve won the lottery LOL.
  • Happy Holidays from my stable Lumia 830 running Windows 10 Mobile!
  • Is W10 going to support the Lumia 920?
  • Also Happy Holidays from my stable 1520 and the wife's 830 and in the 1520's case I did one hard reset many months ago when I first joined insider, never done one for the several subsequent upgrades. A lot of silly posts of doom and gloom in this comment section, let the poor sods have a couple of weeks off.
  • Just get the insider preview. The latest version is so amazing on my L640. I can't go back to 8.1. The only thing I miss is IE. I like Edge for PC, but not mobile.
  • How is W10 preview on the 928? I've refrained from installing it because this is my only phone. Should I go ahead and install the preview?
  • I would recommend hitting the forums, I ran two earlier builds and internet sharing wasn't available... Matter of fact no 4G LTE was available; this may have been resolved but idle curiosity will not prompt another attempt.
  • Bulls*hit
  • Is that the abridged assessment?
  • Liars
  • On the slow insider with win10 on a 920... So far not bad...just a bit slow but no bugs... And on the latest update from today..
  • I just upgraded my 1520 because of all the positive feedback.  I've been running it for three days and had no issues.   Notifications for work (Exchange) and Yahoo email working.  Call blocking is working.  I also like that they add the pictures to display favorites like in 8.   I also like the ability to submit feedback.  I asked for a feature for call blocking to have it auto delete voicemail. Windows 10 mobile is best so far!
  • I don't mind waiting for a more stable w10 OS. Pushing an unfinished product is what makes me angry. And I finally got 8.1 configured and running smooth the way I want it.
  • I don't care. The insider preview works great on my M8 with the exception of less battery life. Great for a daily driver.
  • It does work rather well on the M8. I just finished updating mine. I have the M8 in my left hand and the 950 in the right. I keep asking myself, "Why did I even buy the 950?"
  • Where's rodneyej?
  • Christmas shopping Posted from my Note 5
  • I kind of feel good about it. Because the current version of W10 running on phones despite being very featured in my opinion are not exactly what I expected as a wide release to everyone. In 2016 I hope to see a good refresh in the system as a whole.
  • This is a good move, its not ready for those phones, yet.
  • Microsoft is still busy with other things, Microsoft ! complete your work and keep your promise, 2 weeks ago someone tell the upgrade comes december ??
And now you tell early 2016, could be also April....., Stop your insider program and put all your effort in the proper upgrade. i start to loose my patience with Microsoft mobile...
  • Kace bre vise u Srbiju manite ovi Indijci.
    *pun intended* /sarcasam.exe loaded
  • When in New Jersey?
  • Or download insider-put latest build on which is already a few past the rtm version on 950/950xl, then hard reset phone..... Done
  • +830
  • Did anyone here EXPECT anything less ? I knew when Microsoft said December, right after the 950/950XL release Windows 10 moblie will be released for all phones... Was 100% BS... Nothing new from Microsoft.. Now to use office on Continuum, YOU need to be paying for a office 365 account.... after that move, I expect nothing less from Microsoft. The company has gone 100% down hill for me...
  • Well when you think about it, they said they will bring continuum to budget handsets as that is where it becomes a uber affordable pc like experience for emerging markets. However on the flipside, those with disposable income will buy the £50 handsets and use that. Thus eating into one of their profitable divisions - office.
Like everything, there is always more than two sides to a story.
I wonder what the story will be for emerging markets, hmm.
  • Overmarketed products campaigns kills sales and interest. So much fuss and attention to Windows 10 mobile. How fantastic it is. Words. Not fulfilled in time.
Insider testing is fine to detect bugs and develop apps, not use as product. Enough... Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Is there a list of phones which will receive the wp10 update.. Or did I miss that one
  • I have a Lumia 820
  • Early 2016 means December 31 2016.. Lol
  • Even though I really like windows and microsoft, theres no denying they are fu*ing things up here.
  • L640xl officially announced w10 date
  • Source / link please.
  • And I'm wait for update insider w10 bugs. Audio app not open
  • Im glad I didnt get a WP.
  • l have had windows phone since 2012 ,when I bought 640 xl in May 2015 Microsoft was promising windows 10 upgrade by September this year which has now been postponed to 2016.This is really frustrating. This shows that Microsoft has no commitment towards windows mobile.Microsoft has made habit of making promises and then breaking them.If this goes on more fans of windows phone might desert the O.S.
  • The things is, when MS finally gets their s**t together and starts rolling it out to older devices, how many month will it take before all those eligible devices actually receive it… Many will start blaming the carriers “they are the ones holding out” but I wouldn't blame them one bit as I can’t see why the carriers would want to even bother due to MSs dismal performance, not to mention most owners of those devices will be eligible for upgrades and will probably move elsewhere.
  • Is the latest build 10586.36 stable enough for my L640 as a daily driver?
  • Old Lumias owners may never get W10M. But that's fine. Windows 8.1 has improved a lot. The internet explorer is really working fine and even the native video player app has improved along with the search app. So its fine.
  • Probably for the best. My wife and I are coming from 1020s. She got a 950XL a little over a week ago and has had sooo many problems. Every day I come home to a new list of complaints about her phone that she didn't complain about with the 1020. I've seen some of it first hand when using it for a minute. The swipe typing is HORRIBLE. Often it doesn't work at all. You swipe the word and nothing happens. Seems very buggy. Very disappointing for a longtime WP supporter.
  • The excitement went away today when I had to roll back to 8.1 on my HTC one m8. Knock on and headphone jack stopped working due to the preview build. I have seen this delay game movie before with BB the company formerly known as RIM. They did the same thing with BB10. They, MS, needs to be letting people know why they making sure the iOS and Android apps are up to par and updated, but they haven't released a truly finalized WM10. It is like a wife cooking T-bones for the neighbor and giving her husband TV dinners. MS is not reciprocating the love that it's loyal customers are showing them.
  • I gave MS a year longer than BB yet it has done little good, haven't looked back since leaving latter and highly anticipate I’ll be doing the same w/WP, already moved them (1020/830) into the “backup phone” category.
  • Early 2016 means after three weeks.... I can't wait
  • Very good bloody *******..
  • Because the last build of W10M is still unstable! I see the reason why Microsoft announed that!
  • Enough is enough! I can't wait longer.. Switching to some other OS's. My phone is 3 years old, though there's no problem in it. I feel like I'm living back in the ages :-(
  • No prob, still waiting for update ❤ .I hope it's make MS launch Windows mobile better
  • I have a HTC 8S Phone so it's will be updated or not?
  • Always late
  • So much negative minded peoples around here... See the positives about w10m, i can live with it in my 640xl as a daily drive....
  • How to lonch windows 10 in Lumia phone?
  • Been using on my HTC M8 as a daily driver, only but I notice is sometimes stops responding when I am connect to BT in my car, I can lock and unlock the screen to bring it back.
  • Another bad news from Microsoft
  • Nearly twelve months, yet another update to windows mobile but still my Hotmail is broken
  • this is fine personally.  Ive been using windows 10 for a while and every time they release a update i have maybe a day of issues tht seem to disapear the next day and leave behind a very smooth and reliable os, thats how it currently feels on my lumia 930 and thats on the insder builds, so microsoft are doing plenty right for mobile right now.  All my apps work and all my phone functions work and work well. Id still like windows gestures back and the hamburger menu replaced but as it stands windows 10 is a very nice os on mobile and desktop.
  • Take ur time but we need a bug free OS.
They say patience is a virtue.
  • I Will never understand the update crave that keep decimating neurons everywhere on this planet. I have choosed and then bought a device with feature mainly based on its OS. If it gets updated after some time that's good, if it is not...cool, who cares. I mean unless a) you choosed the wrong device and spent months praying for an update to change something and somehow fix your mistake b) you're some tech addict craving to drown in your own little **** made of endlessly growing plastic and circuits things.
You have been just unlucky in the first case, definitely in need of some medical care in the second...
  • +1  "No new build this week, life sucks"
  • Please Releas the android apps for windows phone
  • Just sign uo as Insider and you'll get it. What's the issue? It has been my daily driver for a very long time.
  • Guess it's time for me to ditch this crappy WinDroid "soon".get a Moto X instead...atleast i will definitely know when it will be updated...
  • My Lumia 930 works just fine. Pleas do not release the Windows 10 for mobil befor it is stable and works as good as 8.1 does.
  • WP and Nokia were so perfect, they decided to kill both.
  • Windows 10 mobile, running super brilliant on my L535.
  • Wen does wp10 available for Lumia 630.
  • Lumia India & Microsoft India twitter pages are still reporting that update will be released by the end of the year ...........
  • If you have a Lumia 1020, DO NOT install Windows Insider Preview to W10. It completely destroys the image quality on the 41mp camera.
  • Well it wouldn't be true MS beta **** if they just gave it to us.... We gotta keep that awesome 5 year beta state going, it's on a roll.... (rolling thunder aka oozing whimper)
  • Ms is starting to show how FUCKINGcheap they really are...I wish I could SKULLfuck them.
  • Does anyone received the 1586.36 update?
  • **** this ****. Thy said the update will be in December 2015!!!
  • How is this build can I use this build as a daily driver? Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Oh lovely, I searched every day for the update in settings. Way to go Microsoft
  • I don't know for how long I'll be a supporter of MS.... Wtf
  • I am on win8.1 on my lumia 620 . Should i hope a official update to windows 10 in future or i should update via insider slow program. Will it be stable and fast as l620 has only 512mb of ram .
  • Hry what about win 10 preview in 535
  • i just switched back to Windows Phone after trying Android again ... i forgot what a mess android is ... i am a Verizon prepaid customer and went from the Moto E to the LG Lancet ... good little phone ... i tried the insider update but it through the phone into a boot loop ... luckily the Lancet can be fixed with the recovery tool now ... i would rather wait until 2016 and have a working phone than rushed buggy software.
  • Keeping 8.1 as long as bugs keep coming up with win10 mobile....so no thanks win10 mobile
  • "The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones." next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones. select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones. select
  • I am fed up waiting now.
  • Is it going to work on the nokia lumia 630
  • ive been using my 930 with the latest update and yes i think they should wqait **** i think they should have delayed the 950 due to os problems.  Ok im part of the insider group which i love being part of and my phone is runing great but when you recieve 2 plex updates and a windows phone os update and it stops you from using plex due to it not recognising your a pain plex app user then  something is seriuosly wrong with either plex app updates or windows 10 os in general.  This is not the first time i have had this issue.  Tube cast that i poayed forstoped working before too.  Surely windows 10 and plex should recognise my app and that i have bought it,  Iv been with insider for a long time now and the fact they keep making things stop working that wrere working hapeen and at a time they already realeased the phone os on the 950 to publice, add this to their claims that they are only working on the performance side, why is plex no longer working for me, why doesnt it recognise i have payed. If this is a windows 10 store or microsoft issue then yes the windows phone is gona struggle casue developers will only put up with mthis random working mode for so long.  Ive already moaned at plex on their forums causs ewell i blame both microsoft and plex.
  • Plzz nokia lumia 630 is it going to come to this phone
    Plzz
  • That's weird. They announced the RTM had come out weeks ago, and that it wsa already rolling out to devices. People in the comments were talking about their update. I've been waiting for my update to show up, and they takesies backsies before I get mine? There's GOT to be a way to manually install the RTM release.
  • Microsoft, always a disappointment... I bought the Lumia 640 in August because it was advertised with a 1 year's personal subscription to Office 365 and was said to be upgradeable to Win 10 Mobile. First I discovered that their offer about Office 365 was no longer valid, after I downloaded their "Office 365 gift" app from the store. Mmm, okay, I'm a student so I got Office 365 University instead, but still it was a big disappointment and false advertising, too. Right. So I moved on. I got used to the poor quality of most apps (including the ones made by Microsoft themselves), learned how to go on without some other apps which simply weren't available (ok, that's not Microsoft's fault, but it still affects the user experience on the platform) and I even found some (albeit few) apps, which I totally loved like Poki for Pocket. Anyway, three months later, after never having dropped the phone, screen ghosting happened. Alright! I sent it for repairs and the service center found nothing wrong with it because of their incompetence (again, hardly Microsoft's fault, but they must still think about their local representatives and the quality of the service they provide). I had to send it in again and I've been waiting for almost a month now. Who knows if it'll be fixed. Meanwhile, I've been reading and watching reviews of Win 10 Mobile, the release of which is for the second time delayed until an unspecified period of time (what does "early 2016" imply?), and as far as I can see the system appears to be buggy, unstable, it has inconsistent design and features that simply don't make any sense. For example, "quiet hours" are unavailable to anyone who's not using Cortana, which itself is available in like 10 countries or so. Good times there! And please spare me the bullshit of messing with my regional settings, because nobody should have to do so in order to use a feature so widely advertised (not to mention that switching to another country messes up the experience with the store, the metric/Imperial units in Maps, etc.). What we are left with in the end is one big pile of garbage anyway. The expectation that the universal apps trend was going to turn things around is proving false so far, so much that every small and insignificant app that gets released as universal and works on phone is a reason enough to write an article in this site. We are still lacking the basics such as Facebook, Messenger (not that crap on Win 8.1, that doesn't count!), Snapchat, etc. The very basics! Most users are not even asking about some smaller apps available on Android or iOS - they understand that is not going to happen and have kind of given up on the idea. But come on, we need the basics, that's the minimum that Microsoft has to take care of. Even if they have to pay the developers. Oh, but Facebook said they would make universal apps. Yeah, like when? In 2020, if universal apps actually become a thing. Judging by Microsoft's efforts on updating their sorry-ass Facebook app I can expect that the official one isn't coming anytime sooner.
  • No rush people. W10M isn't ready yet....take it from me as the #Lumia950XL has been my primary phone since day 1. Still loving it but at times frustrating.
  •  I love my 1520, Windows OS is great. But after all this time and no wndows 10, I have trust issues with Microsoft. That's hard for me to say because I am a microsoft fan boy.
  • Kevin, see my recent comment re upgrading my 1520 using the Insider app - it was a seamless upgrade and I am so glad I did it, it's honestly like having a brand new phone :-)
  • OK, so after months of reading all the stuff about phones being bricked and lots of stuff not working after the upgrade, I decided over the weekend to take my chance and upgrade my Lumia 1520 to Windows 10 through the Windows Insider app.  I have been busy writing Windows 10 universal platform apps and really wanted my phone to be able to to run them so decided it was time to take the plunge.  I chose the slow update path as this is my every day phone. The update and restore etc went without an issue and was quite fast compared to the old 8.1 updates. I am so glad I did the upgrade - it has just tranformed my phone and I love it.... so far I've had a very positive experience.  The only disappointments are the email app which I think is too busy and not laid out very well, Groove music which won't let me play my music by genre (Microsoft is this becuase you think your users are too dumb to know what a genre is?!) and Cortana that won't work even though I've gone into settings and chosen a language it supports... this could be because I'm in Australia though.  These issues are reasonably minor though and I'm sure they will be worked out eventually.  Apart from that I really can't find much to complain about - everything seems to work faster and the battery life seems *much* better (good news on an older phone like mine). The other thing I love is there are updates (small though they may be) that are constantly pushed to my phone and shown on the glance screen - very impressed with this. :-) I know I'll largely be preaching tot the converted here but this is truly a ripping platform and I just hope it can finally gain some market penetration when people start using W10 on their desktop and tablets and decide they want seamless integration with their phone.... it does NOT deserve to wilt and die as the naysayers are predicting. For anyone with a 1520 agonising over the decision to update I'd say ensure your phone is backed up and just do it. I can't speak for any other model but post-upgrade the 1520 feels like a brand new phone. I don't often say it but WELL DONE MICROSOFT!!
  • I think Windows 10 Mobile is definitely better than WP8.1, but there are still issues with Bluetooth, automatic date and time, Swype keyboard predictions and people app which are extremely annoying.
It's better to wait a bit longer and get a much more stable official build. Posted from Windows Central for Windows 10
