Xbox head Phil Spencer: E3 2016 could be 'one of our most special years ever'

In a video interview streamed on Microsoft's Xbox Facebook Live feed, Phil Spencer said that E3 2016 could be 'one of our most special years ever'.

The Facebook Live video was streamed by Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb from the Microsoft Store in Los Angeles, as fans got in line to get tickets for the company's Xbox FanFest. Spencer said in the interview that he looked back to events like Zero Hour, the 2005 launch event in the Mojave Desert for the Xbox 360 console, as a major moment for the division. He added:

I think there are certain moments in Xbox history that Xbox fans ... think of as important years. I think this will be one of those years."

Windows Central will be at Microsoft's E3 2016 press event on Monday, June 13, which will begin at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time (9:30 a.m. Pacific Time) for first hands reports of what Microsoft will be officially revealing for the Xbox One.

  • Scorpio confirmed? I certainly hope not.
  • Don't panic. The philosophy at Microsoft sometimes seems to be "over promise and under deliver." Lets contain excitement until they prove they deliver and not just announce.
  • I bet its more promised insanely cool and even demonstrated features that years from now will just get canned anyways.
  • If it's presented, it will be like Sony with the PS4K : The 2 machines will live together and with the same games and the VR capability... The unique difference ? Better graphics on the new one.
  • Sony has confirmed that the PS4 Neo exists but they won't unveil it at E3.
  • Yup special make promises then break them.
  • Why are you so pissed? What promises have they broken lately? Sent from a shiny electronic rectangle.

  • Im not pissed it's just microsoft in general. Lots of hype but fail so man times.
  • Pretty sure *could* is the operative word there; I don't see any promise being made.
  • Dude, it was demonstrated, and just this week confirmed that they have all but killed it "in favor of features fan want more" but honestly, after two years, how hard can this be to develop?
  • I've always wondered how they would handle potentially recording one or multiple TV streams in the background while an intense game was playing. I think this kind of scenario makes a gaming machine/dvr difficult to make a 100% reliable solution. This is quite a bit different than some just watching Ota TV. Do I recall they have some DVR functionality in Europe? Or just Ota watching through the One?
  • Obviously hard enough since they couldn't get it done in two years. It's not just a hardware feature, it's the sort of thing that requires agreements with media companies across the world.
  • Im not sure that recording OTA requires licensing agreements. The FCC is in charge of those frequencies, part of the reason they get access to them is an agreement to provide the news as a requirement... Not for profit no less (commercials anyone?). I get what your saying and im sure there is some kind of hoops to go through, but the OTA ability is already there. Your simply adding a DVR feature. That's no different than buying a TIVO, they just made the hardware and software to do digitally what has been done for decades on VHS and I doubt they needed licencing agreements to do so.
  • Really curious about what cards they're keeping under their sleeves! Sent from a shiny electronic rectangle.
  • I'm more of a Sony guy but I can't wait to see what MS has. Crackdown 3 would be nice but I'm excited to know more about Gears of War.
  • I just realized I might not be home to watch the conference. Does anyone remember the app they provided to watch live events on your WP? I used it 1-2 years ago but I forgot its name. Thanks.
  • Worst case everything this year is on Twitch I think. And there are some good Twitch apps.
  • Thanks Richard. Will definitely check that out.
  • Yup it will be one of the best moments of Xbox history..... forza and halo comes back to the #MasterRace Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • If they announce a high spec Xbox one it would be a day one purchase for me! Have the 4K TV now, but currently there is barely any content out there to use with it. Also, still disappointed with the way The Witcher 3 runs in comparison with my colleagues gaming PC.
  • When XBOX as a service comes you can just install the XBOX software on your PC. Then everyone can have a gaming PC and the world will be a better place. :)
  • Dollar for dollar you cant compair a gaming PC to a console. Your buddies rig costs more than your xbone, likely a lot more. I just upgraded my PC and could have bought two xbones for the price of just 3 parts.
  • xbone? What's that? A doggy treat? Something not safe for work and banned in some countries? *shivers /s
  • If you play GTA V then yes...
  • You can buy a machine that gets 60fps on Witcher 3 at 1080p for roughly 650$ right now (or 20 a month if that's your thing). Yeah, that's almost 2 XB1, but you can't exactly use both of them in tandem to make the game run at a respectable frame rate can you?
  • Lol or a forza cockpit
  • More TV?
  • Yeah... probably not happening http://www.windowscentral.com/i-love-you-xbox-dont-cancel-things-your-fans
  • More special means they are stripping EVERYTHING from the xbox one and cancelling live.  You just play like a playstation 1.
  • Divestment of the division? Who could buy it?
  • They tried that... before Satya took over. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android (V10 or 5x)
  • They say that every year.
  • As the face of the Xbox division he sort of has too. But if they do announce a new Xbox it will also make it true.
  • As in totally new xbox,  or the shrunken xbox mentioned on wc?
