The Xbox Windows Phone game Wordament gets updated, adds Facebook login

Wordament is a boggle styled Xbox Windows Phone game where you have to create words from a 4x4 grid of letters. You earn points based on the letters used and compete against thousands of other Wordament players to earn the most points.

Wordament was recently updated to version 2.5 and adds the ability to login with your Facebook account so you can play against your Facebook friends.  You can still log-in with your Windows ID with the Facebook log-in being optional.

Other features of the version 2.5 update include:

  • The ability to share your scores on Facebook and Twitter
  • Game themes are now independent of your Windows Phone theme
  • Puzzle language support increased to cover fifteen languages.

You also have a few under-the-hood tuning to improve overall stability and performance and a slight design change to accomodate the new theme and Facebook login options.

If you haven't tried Wordament, it's a rather addictive word game for your Windows Phone. Wordament is a free app for your Windows Phone 8 and 7.x device and you can find Wordament here in the (opens in new tab) Windows Phone Store.

Thanks, Pulkit, for the tip!

  • Love Wordament
  • So no to an xbl release this week I take it?
  • No
  • KooZac is also on sale for .99.
  • Who needs anything else?
  • Wish it would get optimised for 16:9.
  • When I play this game, my phone gets super hot. Does this happen to anyone else?
  • My phone gets super hot no matter what game I play on it. It worries me sometimes, but I know it's nothing serious.
  • Still not full-screen on 720p phones...
  • Right, because its a Windows Phone 7 game that has WP8 compatibilty.
  • I don't care why - it is not THAT hard to make a proper WP8 version.
  • The WP market is not large enough to warrant two separate versions in most cases, especially when Xbox Live certification adds so much time and money to the process.
  • It wouldn't be a separate version - WP Developer Centre manages both as one, and 99% of code will be identical. And Wordament is Microsoft's own in-house game, it's not a question of money.
  • I don't think it's even 50% of code that would be identical. We'd need a developer to get a more accurate assessment, but they've always made clear that WP7 and WP8 versions (even when listed at the same WP Store page URL) must be created and updated separately, and that it's a substantial time investment. I do agree that Microsoft could afford to do separate WP8 versions of their games if they wanted to though.
  • I hate WP platform, so much fragmentation. Many of new games and apps doesn't support 720p screens. Thank you Nokia and Microsoft. Keep up good work, that's the Android way!
  • I'm getting that it couldn't sign me into my Xbox account.. Anyone else?? This update broke my game 100% can only sign in via Facebook :)
  • haven't tried via Facebook, but yes with this update I can't get myself connected to the game.
  • Conversely it logs me in using my xbox account as normal and i don't see any Facebook options. Would have been nice to show off when i got into the top 10. :-)
  • Me, too, however I feel the proper emoticon would be sad :( or maybe tongue :P.  A full-on simley doesn't seem appropriate, unless you're the type who smiles at everything.
  • HA first tip!
Yeah, the app seems a little slower compared to before but I like the visual changes. Haven't experiend any major bugs so far.
  • Don't like the design changes. Scrolling is not smooth. The effect after creation of words is also not nice :(
  • Can't start the game since the update.  No matter where I am I get a message that it couldn't connect to Xbox because the connection timed out.
Way to ruin a good thing!
