XCOM-like 'Mutant Year Zero' gets extended footage, December release date

Recently, developer Bearded Ladies and publisher Funcom announced Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. According to the companies, Mutant Year Zero is a tactical adventure featuring a story set on a post-human Earth. The game combines strategy and the turn-based combat of XCOM with real-time exploration and stealth gameplay. The team making Mutant Year Zero has members who previously worked on titles like Hitman and Payday.

Today, Funcom announced that Mutant Year Zero will be launching December 4, 2018 on Xbox Game Pass. You'll be able to buy it outright too. The game will also be available on both PC and PlayStation 4, but it won't be part of any subscription service like PlayStation Now. The publisher released an extended gameplay video to celebrate this announcement.

Mutant Year Zero is based on the classic "Mutant" franchise that has spawned several popular pen and paper games. Extreme climate change, global economic crises, a lethal pandemic, and increasing tension between old and new superpowers causes the destruction of the planet. Nuclear war destroys the land and humans perish.

Funcom is known for unique experiences like Conan Exiles and The Park, so Mutant Year Zero seems like the right fit. The game is set to release in 2018 on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. It's expected to be enhanced for Xbox One X, too.
