Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Microsoft has started selling gift codes (opens in new tab) for the Xbox Design Lab. Now, you can purchase a code from Microsoft to gift to a friend so they can design and order their very own custom controller in the Lab.

If you're unfamiliar with the Xbox Design Lab, the service allows anyone to easily customize their own Xbox Wireless Controller with their choice of colors. And with 8 million possible combinations, things can get pretty wacky. We talked a bit about our experience with this service shortly after it launches, so be sure to check that out for more.

If you have a gamer in your life that would love to get their hands on a custom controller, you can purchase a code direct from Microsoft for $89.98. Of course, if you're designing one for yourself, you can simply toy around with the Design Lab (opens in new tab) as well.

  • Any idea when Design Lab controllers will be available to the rest of the planet?
  • It would be super cool to be available here in Europe :D
  • Ahhhh, us only? No!
  • Apparently its 'coming to new markets in early 2017', at least according to the original announcement of them.
  • There wont be on sale for black Friday right? Because I want to customize my controller :). But I don't want to spend $80 on it...
  • What they will be offering for Black Friday for the Xbox Design Lab is free last engraving ($10 USD/$15 CAD value) but no actual discount on the Design Lab Controller
  • They should let you save your design and then share a link to purchase the design as a gift.
  • Um, you can...
Scroll down to "How do I share my controller so that it can be purchased for me as a gift?"
  • Thanks! I'll look into that.
  • Is it available in Philippines?
  • No, its US only for now...
  • The design web is also impossible to access outside the US, it's a shame, because there could be some way to get it shipped.
  • So... Expensive...
  • First, they should offer this service for the Elite controllers. I'd upgrade ours straight away. Second, and more importantly, how is it they can so easily do this, but you still can't purchase digital games as gifts? Yeah, yeah, I know, you can purchase gift cards, but that doesn't help much as you still couldn't utilize the sales happening every other week.
