Lufthansa is the latest airline to equip pilots with the Surface Pro 3

Earlier this month, Austrian Airlines announced that its pilots would start using the Surface Pro 3 as electronic flight bags instead of paper-based manuals, and now Lufthansa is following suit. The airline purchased more than 5,000 Surface Pro 3 tablets that will allow pilots to check weather reports, charts and navigation utilities in-flight. The tablets will be made available to pilots in all regions where Lufthansa flies, with the rollout commencing from February 2015.

Microsoft stated earlier this year that the Surface Pro 3 will be able to plug into an aircraft's electronics systems thanks to a special mount manufactured by NavAero.

"These mounts leverage the same single connection found on the Surface Pro 3 Docking Station – allowing Surface Pro 3 to plug directly into the plane's electronics through a unique interface to provide simultaneous power, data and display connectivity through one simple connection. For pilots, this means added benefits such as automatic updates to navigational and operational content and access to critical real-time information like weather, wind and turbulence data."

What do you think of the growing usage of the Surface Pro 3?
