Skype Translator preview app for Windows 8.1 ditches sign-up; now free to download

Microsoft is now expanding access to its previously released Skype Translator preview app for Windows 8.1. The app is now available to download from the Windows Store without the need for users to signup and register beforehand.

The preview version of the app, which also works with the Windows 10 Insider Preview, first launched in December. It currently supports spoken translation in four languages (English, Spanish, Italian, and Mandarin) along with 50 languages via instant messenger texts.

Microsoft says it has already received a lot of positive feedback from Skype Translator users and offered an example:

One of the early adopters we would like to highlight is Pro Mujer. Pro Mujer is a non-profit development organization based in New York City dedicated to providing women in Latin America with vital financial, health, and human development services that are typically out of reach, but essential in helping women become financially independent, healthy, and leaders in their communities. We are very proud of Pro Mujer's mission, and we're delighted they're finding value in using Skype generally, and Skype Translator to make an impact in so many people's lives.
