GoPro is one of the hottest companies out there in the action camera space. You could even argue that they’re the action camera. The Windows Phone GoPro app was teased at CES 2013 and finally launched in May of the same year. An update to the app, this last November, introduced support for the HERO3+ camera. Today we’re getting a very big update to the official GoPro app that will make a lot of you with GoPro cameras very happy. Changelog and details after the break.

Microsoft is not resting on their laurels when it comes to gaming as new features have been announced for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Ironically, they’re unique features to each system, so hopefully you still have both of them.

First up is the Xbox 360, which is gaining an official GoPro app to view a curated channel of GoPro videos. GoPro has become the defacto source of stomach nauseating point-of-view videos, often featuring extreme sports. It’s hard to fathom how much the mini-camera system has changed our experience in watching people perform wild and crazy stunts in such a short time. Now, you’ll be able to watch all the latest right on your Xbox 360.

We first saw the official GoPro app for Windows Phone back at CES. That was early January and at the time we were told to expect it about a month later. A month came and went. Then we saw the app on display with Nokia during Mobile World Congress. Then we learned we would see it during spring. Since today still counts as spring, they stayed true to their word. The app is now available for download.

It was back at the beginning of January, CES to be exact, that we first saw the official GoPro app for Windows Phone. It was running on a cool blue Lumia 920 and looked fairly finished. At the time the company said to expect the app in mid-February. It came and went, we then saw it again at Mobile World Congress at a ‘partner app’ from Nokia. We then learn we’d expect it sometime ‘this spring’. That means anytime between March 20th and June 21st, since that’s how long spring is. If you’re impatient, here’s another third party app filling the gap - Action Camera.

Whilst at MWC, Windows Phone Central had the chance to sit down with Marco Argenti, Senior Vice President of the Developer and Marketplace division at Nokia. We had just been checking out the new partner apps being shown off in Nokia’s sizeable booth and were keen to hear more about the relationships Nokia are continuing to build with developers both commercial and indie, especially following the news of Nokia’s new imaging and HERE API features.

You can find the full write up of that discussion after the break.

Continuing our tour of MWC 2013, we’ve been checking out the Partner apps Nokia is showcasing within their booth (something of a home-from-home for the Windows Phone Central team today). This time we’re bringing you a hands on video with GoPro. Nokia have been working with the GoPro team to build a quality first party app for Windows Phone and it really shows with this app.

If we step back for a moment and answer the question, “what is Go Pro?” well the official website is probably better positioned to answer, but essentially what we’re looking at is a wearable camera suitable for capturing sporting moments from a first-person perspective for editing and sharing with the world. Nokia even had a demonstration unit alongside their demo Lumia device and it certainly looks designed to take a beating.

Hey thrill seekers, we know when you’re busy attempting a double black diamond for the first time you want to save that first person view with your GoPro. And if you’re reading Windows Phone Central you probably want to control it with your Windows Phone.

Well, we still have a few weeks left before we get any official GoPro companion app for Windows Phone, but in the meantime check out this third party app called GoPro Control.

You know that point when an up and coming operating system starts gaining mainstream developer support? Well it’s happening right now with Windows Phone 8. We’re slowly starting to see big name apps cross the app gap and come to the land of Live Tiles and Lockscreens. GoPro is currently working on supporting Windows Phone 8 to work with their newest line of HERO3 cameras.
