Is Samsung EVO Select a good memory card for GoPro cameras?
The Samsung EVO Select handles 4K video and comes at a great price
In order to record 4K UHD video, you need a microSD card that has fast read and write speeds. The 64GB and 128GB versions of the Samsung EVO Select are class 10 UHS 3 cards with 100MB/s read and 90MB/s write speeds. When purchasing cards for larger files such as 4K video, you should always make sure they're class 10 UHS 3.
It's important that you get either the 64GB or 128GB versions of the Samsung EVO Select as they are class 10 UHS 3. The 32GB and 256GB versions of the card are class 10 UHS 1, which will have worse performance when reading and writing larger video files.
Thes 64GB and 128GB cards are fast enough for high-quality GoPro footage and high-resolution still photography, making them a solid optino for GoPro users.
The Select variant of the Samsung EVO card is exclusive to Amazon. It's an especially great deal for Amazon Prime members, as they get free shipping on an already-affordable card.
Great for GoPros
While the Samsung EVO Select is a good choice for many cameras, it's especially a good choice for GoPro users. GoPros are often used for longer filming sessions, like filming an entire snowboard run down a mountain or a bike ride through challenging terrain. These types of video take up memory quickly. A Samsung EVO Select is fast enough to handle recording in 4K quality and also has high write speeds that make it easy to move your content from your GoPro to your PC or other devices.
The Samsung EVO Select is also durable. Samsung states that it has "4-Proof Protection" including IPX7 waterproof protection, the ability to handle extreme heat and cold, and other protections. The microSD card has an impressive operating temperature range of -25°C to 85°C.
It's also cheap enough that you could have a few in your carrying case to quickly switch between cards if you're doing a large amount of filming on a trip.
The Samsung EVO Select is a worthwhile purchase for any GoPro user, but it or a similar card is a necessity if you're going to take full advantage of the GoPro Hero 7 (opens in new tab). The latest GoPro can film in 4K at 60 frames per second (FPS) and take HDR photos. Having a memory card that can quickly record data is important for these types of content.
