HD Photo Viewer updated, dynamic zoom added

HD Photo Viewer is an interesting Windows Phone 8 photography app that lets you view and share your images at full resolution. When viewing images through your Windows Phone Pictures Hub, image quality is reduced to improve performance when you pan and zoom. HD Photo Viewer presents the images in full resolution for a more quality viewing experience.

HD Photo Viewer was updated today to version 3.4, which includes a dynamic zoom feature and a few other enhancements to improve the app's overall performance.

HD Photo Viewer is a Pictures Hub alternative for our Windows Phone 8 devices. The native Windows Phone Pictures Hub reduces image resolution to improve performance and speed when you pan/zoom images. HD Photo Viewer maintains the original resolution giving your photos a sharper look.  Especially when you are viewing larger DSLR images from your Windows Phone.

The version 3.0.1 update adds a few basic editing tools to HD Photo Viewer and cinemagraph support for viewing and sharing your animated .gif files. The update also adds the ability to email full resolution photos as attachments.

If your Windows Phone 8 photos look a little soft when viewed from your phone, take a look at HD Photo Viewer. The app was created from the need to view sharper images from the developer's Nokia Lumia 920.

The idea behind HD Photo Viewer is that the softness and blurry images viewed from the Picture Hub's photo viewer is that image quality is reduced to improve performance and speed when you pan/zoom about the photo. HD Photo Viewer maintains the original quality to present your photos in a sharper fashion.

We've been following the development of v7.0 of Resco Photo Manager for sometime now (see our early review) and today it has gone official, hitting the gold status.

To refresh, the main changes are:

  • WM 6.5 registration fixed
  • Touch friendly user interface
  • User interface is in new graphic
  • Add GPS position to any image and make a diary of your trip
  • Locate geo-tagged image on map (using Google Maps)
  • Different skins available
  • Letter & date navigation bar
  • Folder content preview
  • Rotation , navigation and zoom gestures
  • Double tap image to quickly view detail in original size
  • GUI animations
  • Support of G-sensor
  • Convert image to JPG, PNG and BMP
  • Text notes can be saved into EXIF
  • Upload to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Picasa supported
  • Upload image with comment and GPS location

Our early impressions were basically this a very impressive and worthy photo application, in fact it sets the bar.  Check it out here.

Looks like Resco is finally turning its attention to the aging Photo Viewer app, which while very popular and powerful has become quite dated in terms of UI (see our earlier review).

In their forums (via ppcgeeks) they are showing off their "alpha" version, meaning this is very early in development. Having said that, we gave it a spin on our Treo Pro and, darn it all ... the thing runs very well.

What can you expect? How about it is very fast in terms of the UI and loading photos, the UI is gorgeous and very intuitive. We especially like the easy zoom feature and the much-needed "touch" interaction.

Also, there's:

  • G-sensor support
  • Touch friendlyness
  • The folder shows the preview of the pictures inside it
  • 100% zoom in and out using double clicking (zoom the double clicked area)
  • Thumbnail and list view and multiselection operations
  • Direct access to the camera
  • Upload to Facebook, Flickr

Normally we steer you guys clear of betas, let alone alphas, but in this case we're going to have to give a thumbs up as it seems quite stable and harmless (it's about 2mb for the install.).  Take a peek after the break for a few screenshots.
