Bethesda unveils Orion at E3 2019, new software to improve streaming

What you need to know

  • Orion is not a streaming platform.
  • It is technology that will improve existing streaming platforms.
  • Orion was demoed with DOOM running at 60FPS on mobile.

During Bethesda's E3 2019 press conference, the company announced a new piece of software called Orion. Despite all of the streaming terminology, don't confuse it for a service like Stadia or xCloud. Orion isn't a streaming service itself, but it is software to help further improve existing streaming services.

Orion will reportedly be able to work with Google Stadia and be be used with any game engine. According to the developer, it will optimize performance and reduce bandwidth so that games stream 20% faster at a 40% lower bandwidth. And you'll be able to stream all of your games at max settings should everything work as intended.

Bethesda did not reveal when Orion was expected to launch.
