Check out the Windows 10 VLC app running on Xbox One, due later this summer

The leader of the VLC development team has posted an image of the Windows 10 version of the media player running on the Xbox One. That version of the app is expected to be made available later this summer.

VideoLAN posted the first public open beta for VLC on Windows 10 for PC and Mobile earlier today. In a blog post, VideoLAN's presdent Jean-Baptiste Kempf stated the app would be made available for the Xbox One when the console begins accepting third-party apps in its store. That feature is expected to be a part of the big Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which is scheduled for August 2.

The app is also expected to be compatible with the Surface Hub and Microsoft HoloLens. In addition, the VLC apps for Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 RT and Windows Phone 8.1 are expected to get an update sometime in July.

  • Uwp won't be available earlier in preview?
  • Nope lol
  • Whats the point of preview then? No background music yet top
  • I think they must be having some major issues with the apps coming to XBO. Why else would they not have us testing them in preview??
  • Wouldn't that be the opposite?      I imagine they use preview to test OS  stability and new features.  There has never been a case of a non core app on xbox being in a preview only form.
  • Beautiful!
  • Was hoping it didn't have a cursor and was more Xbox controller native
  • It just crashes on my pc everytime I try to open it. works great on my phone though
  • Try run this in powershell
    Get-AppxPackage -Name *vlc* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
  • this didn't work bro. App still crashes every single time
  • Get-AppxPackage -Name *vlc* | remove-appxPackage
re install from store, if that doesnt work. Then it must be some major bug that is some kind of hardware related
  • Looking forward to trying that!
  • Super cool
  • I just want my uwp apps...
  • And it looks like we'll finally be able to stream content from our computers to our consoles. YES!
