Control media playback from the couch with VLC Mobile Remote

VLC is a sweet media player available cross platform. It's becoming the norm to have apps and controllers to manipulate what's displayed on-screen when connected to a PC. VLC Mobile Remote is a unofficial app which turns your Windows Phone into a remote control for your PC. When viewing media through VLC, it's now possible to control playback from the comfort of your own couch.
It's required to have your remote PC added to the app and once you're set up and ready to go, a beautiful experience awaits. There's a superb tutorial on the app, which walks you through step-by-step on how to get your VLC installation talking to the Windows Phone. Auto-connect will then locate and sync with any PCs (Windows, Linux and Mac) on the network, prompting for the password and you're good to go.
VLC Mobile Remote is available on the store for free with limited features and advertisements. Should you wish to unlock full functionality and remove advertising, a small in-app purchase of $1.99 is all that's required. With the premium version loaded, users can take advantage of playlist management, subtitles and even manipulating playback speed. Taking screenshots, cropping video, saving favorite folders and playing files from a PC is also included.
It's a seriously cool way to manage your VLC playback when not physically at the computer. We approve and recommend the app if you use the media player. Requires Windows Phone 8 or above.

-
Hey rich any idea when is official vlc app gonna release for wp8.1???
-
Nope, sorry. :-(
-
+620 When is it coming out?
-
It's in private beta until they make it ready for publish.
-
I have used this app, good experience but usually i had to login everytime from the start so i deleted it
-
What do you mean by "login everytime"? Auto connection in the app makes everything easy.
I think you used it when there was no auto connection option. -
Yay!!!!
-
Does it work with OS X VLC player ?
-
Yep. And Linux.
-
Awesome
-
Nice app! By the way, when is vlc for WP coming out?
-
No idea. :-(
-
When they're gonna let us change the default video player. Same goes for audio.
-
For now VLC for WP is in private beta.
-
what do you think? they have only released a bad and buggy and featureless Windows 8 x86-64 version... not even RT, so calculate how long they can take to port it to WP, if they still don't have it for ARM in Windows Store.
-
Exactly. All this screaming for a WP version is pointless when they can't even get the W8 version beyond junk.
-
MS needs to make a Glass app that controls Win8 PC.
-
They've already released Remote Desktop why would they need a second app.
-
Not the same at all. Squinting at a miniature version of my htpc is not what im looking for. Check out xbox glass for wp or windows store.
-
Surface mini what price is expected???
-
1,000 dollars plus your soul.
-
What's the catch?
-
They want 1000 SPACE dollar's!
-
OMG! Finally a great app! I love it <3 I'm a TV Series addict and I always need some control whilst in bed!
-
Will vlc player ever be available for WP? Will it have a cost or will it be free?
-
How cares about remote players... We need media players to see movies from our mobiles storage. Moliplayer can do it. The others why not...?
-
I'll stick with Unified Remote. It has VLC functionality, plus several other remotes.
-
Damn VLC...i lost my money given to its fundraiser....bloody kickstarter
-
Still waiting for the official Windows and WP apps.. Slowest development ever..
-
It's in private beta.
-
Guys can one tell me a good media player in Windows phone which should have a drag option to forward the track as in moliplayer but should have also have albums displaying which is not the case with moli
-
Does the app pop up with message from the developer telling us how much he hates Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8?
-
I'm using PC Remote
-
PC Remote... Best thing out there in my opinion.
If you haven't tried it... You should.
It has a great set of features -
PC remote is literally the best thing ever. On any platform. +1520
-
I want vlc for Windowsphone not this thing .
-
You'll be waiting for a few years at this point.
-
For a second I thought it was VLC app being released... UGH!!!
-

-

-
Where's the official vlc for windows phone coming?
-
