Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming first-person shooter from The Witcher developer CD Projekt RED. It takes player choice to another level and features a sprawling city with hundreds of characters to interact with. At Microsoft's E3 2019 media briefing, the team debuted a new trailer along with the April 16, 2020 release date.
Ever since the game was announced, gamers have been curious about how large Cyberpunk 2077's map is. According to a report by GamesRadar+, the game's map is a little smaller than The Witcher 3's in terms of sheer scope. But its verticality and the fact that there are no empty forests packs in more content. Producer Richard Borzymowski told them the following at Gamescom 2019.
If you look at pure surface square kilometers, then Cyberpunk 2077 might even be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3, but it's the density of the content, taking the world of The Witcher and squeezing it right in, deleting the wilderness between. Obviously... in The Witcher 3 we were an open world with vast lanes and forests in between smaller cities and larger cities like Novigrad, but in Cyberpunk 2077 we're set in Night City. It's an integral part of the setting; it's essentially a protagonist if you want to call it that, so it has to be denser. It wouldn't give us the end effect we wanted to achieve if the city wouldn't be believable... so we packed it full of life.
The fact that Cyberpunk 2077's map is almost the same size as The Witcher 3's vast open world is remarkable. It seems like it may be bigger because there are a lot of layers to the city. While just reading the facts outright may discourage some, Cyberpunk 2077 seems like it's a much larger game that The Witcher 3.
What are your thoughts on this? Let us know. Plus, the fact that Keanu Reeves is in the game makes it a must-have in my opinion.
