New live-action DOOM trailer is better than that dull 2005 movie

On the same day that the closed multiplayer beta test begins for DOOM, Bethesda Softworks released a one-minute live-action trailer to promote the upcoming reboot of the DOOM first person shooter franchise that's coming to the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Bethesda says the trailer was directed by Joe Kosinski, who also was in charge of the films Tron: Legacy and Oblivion. It shows DOOM's space marine going up against a ton of the game's colorful demons with lots of shooting, explosions and guns. In short, the 60-second trailer is tons better than that DOOM feature film that was released in 2005. Not even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Karl Urban could save that dull and dreary movie.

Again, the closed multiplayer beta test for DOOM begins today and runs through April 3. If you haven't received an invite, you can get one for free on April 1 beginning at 6 pm if you go to your local GameStop store. The full version of the first person shooter will be released on May 13.

  • Master Chief vs aliens. :)
  • Ehh
  • Hah, its a good trailer. The 2005 movie was... hrm. I didn't hate it, but it just didn't feature enough of the world. So, I guess it could have just been about mutating space zombies rather than DOOM universe. This trailer shows us the classic and new demons.
  • Yea windows central just jumping on the band wagon
  • I have to admit, I quite liked the movie! Mainly because if Karl Urban though... Still hoping for a Dredd sequel!
  • Kickazz! ;)
  • I liked the Doom movie. I even have a copy of it on HD-DVD.
  • I smell what Bethesda's cooking, and it smells very nice.
  • So stoked. I'll be trying to snag beta codes for myself (XB1) and my dad (PC) tomorrow. I have yet to pre-order though, as I am still debating getting the regular version or the CE statue.
  • I just soiled my Duluth Trading Men's Fire Hose Work Pants.... and that's a hard thing to do.
  • refused - new noise!  awww yeah great song, only gets me more pumped for this game!
  • That one scene in the Doom the end where you get a first person perspective brought a tear to my eye. It conjured up feeling of nostalgia from all the hours I logged playing Quake.
  • Calling this trailer live action is awfully generous. It looks about as live action as any other major title cut scene built off of the motions of actors in those funny sensor suits. Also - give the movie some credit. They took something that had no story - and really no reason to exist at all - and made it happen. It was fun - even if it didn't tie into the game at all. Actually imagine how bad it might have been if they did try to tie it in with the game. Remember this was more than 10 years ago...
  • They should remake the movie Doom like this! Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • Oh yeah, it IS way better than that 2005 movie!!
  • Can you really call an entirely CG trailer live-action?
