Far Cry New Dawn runs at native 4K resolution on Xbox One X

Far Cry New Dawn is the direct sequel to Far Cry 5, and continues the story after the original's nuclear ending. If you choose to continue pursuing Joseph Seed — also known as The Prophet — the world is engulfed in fire and the United States is irradiated. However, pockets of survivors still cling to existence around the country, but your journey again leads you to Hope County, Montana. This time around, you're part of a group trying to rebuild the country with the help of an army engineer.

Whenever a major game comes out, console owners are always curious as to which platform offers the best visuals. It has become a competition of sorts at this point. According to a report by Digital Foundry, Far Cry New Dawn runs at native 4K resolution on the Xbox One X. The PlayStation 4 Pro version is 1620p, or reduced to only 77 percent of native 4K on both axes. In this game which has a lot of micro-foliage, every increase in resolution matters because the environment is significantly sharper. Unfortunately, the frame rate is 30 FPS on all consoles.

It's great to see that Ubisoft pushed Far Cry New Dawn's visuals to the edge on Xbox One X. Hopefully when the next-generation console comes out, it'll focus on frame rate and offer 60 FPS on all games. However, only time will tell.

In our review, we said, "Despite its positive attributes, Far Cry New Dawn feels more like the endgame to Far Cry 5. It's almost like an epilogue that should've been included with the base game, maybe as part of the season pass. In order to properly conclude the story started in Far Cry 5, you have to play Far Cry New Dawn."

  • With red Dead 2, Horizon 4 among others and now this. It's safe to say any game not doing native 4k on one X is clearly developer laziness. Because all the games with the best graphics this Gen lately have been native 4K. And had extra visual fidelity over other versions as well. Just shows how impressive the hardware really is.
  • Microsoft just needs to focus on 4K 60 FPS for the next-generation console and they’re all set.
  • 8k is mostly overkill, so I'm sure their next console will definitely be targeting 4k 60, initially. After a couple of years though, companies will start incorporating even better lighting, shadows and effects, more characters on screen, etc, and possibly 8k, and then we'll be back to 30fps 😂
  • True. Then the 8K craze will start.
  • 1620p lol. The worst part is that PS4 Pro is marketed as a 4K console......
  • Yeah, and so is the One X which also can't display every game in 4K, your comment implies that a system that is marketed as 4K must play every game in 4K.
  • This is hardly a surprise though as FC 5 ran at the same resolution and this is using the same engine and (parts of) the same map.
