Today, Epic Games announced Fortnite for Nintendo Switch. The reveal didn't come as a surprise because the game leaked many weeks ago. Numerous outlets reported the exact release date a while back. However, what was surprising is that Fortnite will support cross-play between Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Mac, and mobile devices. As expected, Sony continues to block the feature on its platform due to the company's significant sales advantage. Instead of allowing cross-play, the company told gamers to just buy a PlayStation 4.

After the Fortnite for Nintendo Switch announcement, Nick Chester, Public Relations Manager at Epic Games, confirmed that the game would support cross-play between the various gaming systems. It seems like the future of gaming definitely involves cross-play given its prevalence. It's great to see that Microsoft and Nintendo are working closely for this. Minecraft and a few other games also support cross-play between the two systems.

Hopefully Sony will reconsider its stance down the line. Gaming is so popular because it's an inclusive experience. Using your market position to block a feature doesn't seem right. However, at the end of the day, the PlayStation 4 currently dominates the gaming landscape so we may have to wait until the next generation launches.

Fortnite is a free-to-play third-person shooter which features building mechanics and even a PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds-like mode. The title has garnered incredible popularity over the past few months due to the developer's continued support and addictive nature.
