Don't get your hopes up for a Fallout 3 remaster yet, despite what Amazon's countdown might have you think
A report from our own Jez Corden pours water on the flames of speculation that a Fallout 3 remaster could be announced soon.
There's been a bit of a hullabaloo among the Fallout community in recent days, linked to Amazon's superb second season of the smash hit TV show.
See, as part of the fan experience, Amazon has an interactive website that lets folks explore locations from the Fallout universe. Only one of the items on the map isn't a location. At least, not yet.
It's a countdown timer, which seems to link up with the final episode of the second season. A countdown timer... Must be something good?! Fallout 3 remaster shadow drop?! Alas, according to our own Jez Corden, that's not the case. At least not right now.
Some have been wondering if a mysterious countdown on the Fallout TV show's Amazon Prime website is hinting at a shadow drop for a new Fallout game or remaster. I'm told this is not the case. However, we are eventually getting a Fallout 3 remake in the vein of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, as well as Fallout New Vegas on top.

The quote is from a larger piece where Corden previews what we can expect from Xbox in 2026. You should definitely check it out if you're remotely curious what's in the pipeline for the next 12 months.
Note that he doesn't say it's not happening. Just that it's not happening right now. We're still to expect it at some point, but current information points to it not being related to Amazon in any way.
So, what could it all be about, then? Given it's Amazon, my first thought is that the countdown will reveal the location for Season 3 of the show. It's fun to hope it's related to a new game, but realistically, it's more likely to be about the show.
Fallout fever is in full effect again, though. The release of the second season has, as with the first, seen increased player counts in the existing games, notably Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas.
Fallout will also be appearing in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 soon, as it collaborates with one of Microsoft's other huge franchises.
As for the actual reason for the countdown, we'll have to wait another almost four weeks to find out.
