Books can be expensive, but Amazon's giving select customers a chance to save on their first eBook purchases in 2020. You can earn a $5 credit to use towards any Kindle eBook purchase (opens in new tab) when you spend $20 or more on Kindle eBooks from now through December 31. Spend the whole $20 in one transaction, or in multiple ones, though you'll need to activate the offer (opens in new tab) on your account first by clicking the dark blue 'Activate Now' button on the offer page.
After you've reached the $20 goal, you should receive an email within two days letting you know that the credit has been applied to your account. The credit does expire after 21 days, so make sure to use it before then! No activation button will appear if your account isn't eligible for this offer.

Today's Kindle eBooks deal is stellar because it doesn't have any restrictions on which eBooks you can buy to redeem it. However, digital magazines, subscriptions like Kindle Unlimited, and all physical books are not eligible for this offer. Pre-ordering eBooks will not contribute to reaching the $20 goal either unless they're released by December 31. However, gifting eBooks does count in case you need to send any belated holiday presents.
A quick way to earn the credit would be by picking up a full series like Game of Thrones (opens in new tab) or Harry Potter (opens in new tab), both of which would earn you the credit instantly. Just make sure you've activated the offer before your purchase. For more ideas, take a look through the Kindle Books store (opens in new tab).
If you don't have a Kindle (opens in new tab) yet, there are models at Amazon starting at $79.99. Then again, you don't need one to read Kindle eBooks; they're all able to be read using the free Kindle app (opens in new tab) on devices like your smartphone, tablet, and computer.
Another smart way to save on Kindle eBooks is with a Kindle Unlimited (opens in new tab) subscription. It gives you access to Amazon's digital eBook library so you can check out books whenever you'd like. Right now you can score a three-month membership for only $0.99.
