Kingdoms of Amalur was a cult RPG from the Xbox 360 era, that while polarizing at the time, is remembered fondly by many who actually gave it enough time. With art by Spawn creator Todd MacFarlane and writing by noted high-fantasy author R. A. Salvatore, Kingdoms of Amalur should've proven to be a big hit, but sadly, the studios that built the game ultimately folded under the weight of large loans issued by the state of Rhode Island in the US.
THQ Nordic purchased the license to Kingdoms of Amalur in 2018, leading to speculation about possible sequels or remakes. Now we know that it's the latter.
Friendly feline Microsoft leakster h0x0d uncovered a Microsoft Store listing for "Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning" on Xbox One, which describes a remastered version of the classic RPG, complete with "refined" gameplay.
The hit RPG returns! From the minds of the bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston, comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Remastered with stunning visuals and refined gameplay Re-Reckoning delivers intense, customizable RPG combat inside a sprawling game world.
Now exactly what those refinements and remastered visuals are remains to be seen, but the provided screenshots look pretty sexy. I suspect that it won't be too long until we find out exactly what the deal is, though. The Microsoft Store says it will become available on August 11, 2020.
Did you ever play the original Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? Are you happy to see it return? Hit the comments, let us know your thoughts. Also, if you can't wait for the remaster, it's available now on Xbox backward compatibility.
