Left 4 Dead and Portal 2 join the Xbox One backwards compatibility list [Update: Three more games]

Xbox One gamers can get their hands on two more backwards compatible games, this time with Valve titles Left 4 Dead and Portal 2. Both games will be available to play via backwards compatibility starting today.

Most gamers are probably familiar with the two classic titles from Valve. However, if you've missed out thus far, Left 4 Dead is a first person shooter that pits players against hordes of the undead as you travel through each level. Portal 2, meanwhile, is a puzzle-platforming game through which you use a portal gun to bend the laws of physics to get around.

If you're interested, you can check out the full list of backwards compatible titles.

Update: Three more Xbox 360 games have been added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. One is Flashback, the sci-fi platformer from Ubisoft, and another is Microsoft's own Brain Challenge. The final game is Babel Rising, which is not available for download from the Xbox Store.

  • I wonder if putting in the Orange Box disk for Portal 2 will work...
  • Its not technially the same game. I would love "The Orange Box" to get added.
  • Portal 2 wasn't part of the Orange Box, just the original portal.  I wish the Orange Box was coming to BC instead of Portal 2 though, I never finished Half-life 2 and the episodes on there, but I've gone through Portal 2 like a million times.
  • Oh yeah, good point! I guess I have portal 2 disk then. Crisis averted! Haha
  • The half life games made me car sick
  • Playing them in the car is a bad idea ;)
  • I had alot of fun with L4D. Great game!
  • Both were great. Wonder if Valve will ever release a new one.
  • Loved Portal 1, smashed all the achievements. Portal 2, I just need to do co-op I think. Damned difficult to get together to do it.
  • Actual was holding Portal 2 in my hands yesterday wondering when it was going to be BWC. Finally!
  • Awesome.  LFD is a great game.
  • Still waiting for Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 and Spec Ops The Line. Starting to get very impatient waiting. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • I'm surprised they released L4D1 on backwards compatibility considering that almost all parts of that game were offered up as DLC for L4D2. L4D2 hit backwards compatibility already and I'd argue that it's the better title but hey, can't complain about more compatibility being available.
  • Now I just need a cheap copy of portal 2 and I'm set.
