The Microsoft Store opening in Danbury, Connecticut - A WPCentral reader report

The crowd at the new Microsoft Store in Danbury, Connecticut

As we reported last night, Microsoft was set to open their latest Store in the quaint state of Connecticut who famously just allowed alcohol to be sold on Sunday's just a couple of weeks ago (no joke).

Reader Nicholas R. was there and sent us this report and collection of photos from the event. Overall, we're quite impressed with the sound of things and look forward to that Huntington Station opening here in New York. Check out his telling of the event and pics(taken with a Lumia 900, of course) below!

"So I stopped by a couple hours after the store opening this morning. There were a lot of people there, but it sounds like there were even more when the store actually opened. Some people even camped out overnight in front of the mall. Apparently Microsoft was giving out Xboxes, laptops, and tablets to some of the lucky first people. By the time I got there, they only had zip-up blankets, t-shirts, and concert wristbands left.In terms of store layout, it's actually pretty nice. Although people accuse MS of stealing Apple's idea of wooden tables and chairs, the overall store doesn't feel like an Apple store. It definitely has a different feel; I guess I would call it futuristic. They have the displays with computers, Xboxes, Windows Phone, etc. They also have some Kinects scattered around for people to play with. In the middle of the store is the Answer Desk. A big glass wall is behind the Answer Desk and separates the front of the store for the back. The back is fairly spacious and has a big TV with a Kinect attached to it. Today, they were passing out the tickets for the concert in the back. But I think they might hold other events there in the future. On the wall surrounding the store is a long screen that changes animations.Their demos actually extended out into the mall space today. They had some more TVs setup with Kinects out in the mall. These were linked together so people could play against each other right there. They also had a DJ stand and some speakers setup, but it was unattended when I got there (I assume that was for the opening). Out in the parking lot, they do have a big stage setup for the concert later in the evening."

  • I think Microsoft should use the new logo that on the surface on their stores
  • OMG I was just thinking the same thing!
  • They didn't coz Windows 8 ain't out yet. They'll definitely change everything when Windows 8 comes out.
  • I really wish they would open up one of their stores at the Galleria Mall here in Western New York.
Then I would just tell all of my friends and family to purchase their computers at the Microsoft Store and not have to deal with all the fucking bloatware they pack in everywhere else.
  • OH GOD YES!!! I'm from Buffalo and I would kill lambs for a MS store round these parts. THe Galleria makes enough money I'd assume to attract one at some point ~gets out his petition~
  • Lol wtf? People think Microsoft stole wooden stuff from apple are people that far up apples ass that they think apple made everything? Plastic might have been to weak and some kind of metal would no doubt been ugly, silly apple fanboys.
  • lmfao...this sh*t is getting too funny. I was an iFan and still enjoy seeing new products and such, but man, Apple owning all these ideas, objects, hell anything that is a "noun" is f*in hilarious!
  • From what I heard...MS did hired the same design firm to design their stores....maybe that is where the accusation came in. I been to store many definitely has a wow factor when you step in for the first time. The wall to wall animated graphics are amazing. It seem alot friendlier & livelier than the Apple wise.
  • I wish there was one in the future for STL, but I will just have to visit NJ or NY store when out there for work...
  • This is my local mall about 15 minutes away. I'll have to check it out.
  • Whaaaat? It wasn't possible to have a Sunday Session until a few weeks ago? There is nothing better than having a few drinks with mates on a sunny Sunday arvo.
  • I really like the look of their stores. I really want them to come to the UK but I doubt that will happen any time soon. My grandfather is in the market for a new laptop and it'd probably be a better place for him to shop rather than somewhere like PC World. As for comments about the stores looking like what Apple has is kind of a joke. iFans are too much sometimes. Do they think Apple made the table now? I'm surprised they don't call Sony copycats for having their own stores and selling their own products.
  • Dude.. I live in Athens, ga. We still CANNOT buy alcohol on Sundays.
  • Danbury, CT? Really? Who the hell runs their demographics research? I'm not saying Danbury isn't a perfectly nice city, but that's just it. It's not really even a city. It's a 100,000 person town. Would still like to see a few store open in South Florida.
  • Smart people do...,_Connecticut
  • I would love to see one in San Antonio. Perhaps at La Cantera or North Star mall.
  • I wish there were MS stores outside the U.S. Close to my place. Or maybe not , money is tight enough without it ;-)
  • C'mon Microsoft, we need at least 2 stores in Australia. One in Sydney and one in Melbourne. We have plenty of rotten Apples so need some fresh and juicy Mangoes or sexy Surfaces!!
  • We need them wherever there are Apple stores so Perth and Queensland too
  • I hear Microsoft stole Apple's store concept and used walls, ceilings, and floors. They went even as far as to carpet that same flooring. What is next? To ask for currency in exchanged for their products just like Apple does?
  • The biggest difference is that Apple also ask for a piece of your soul for each item purchased...
  • Don't forget shoved an apple up your behind to make sure they owned you. :-P
  • Yes, I hope St. Louis also gets one. How many Microsoft stores are there? Is the company planning to expand across the U.S.?
  • Danbury is a great location to have this. Some of the largest companies and wealthiest people reside in Stamford, Greenwich and NYC locations - all in close vicinity to this store. Not to mention the huge Danbury mall! I'm pretty certain Stamford is next on their list, which would be interesting given a large Apple store is already there.
  • That's a lotta empty boxes of Software..
  • No Surface Table. That would've made the store a little more cooler.
  • Those pics were taken with a 900? Not Good
  • I agree wth bono5112. thy reaaaaally gotta do something wth the camera on tht phne...these pics are horrific! :'(
