The HP TV app just showed up on Windows 11, and people are wondering what it even does — here’s why it exists and whether you should use it

So apparently, HP now has a free streaming service called HP TV+ for Windows 11, and yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.

It's basically a built-in, ad-supported streaming app that throws together live channels, movies, and random shows into one place. Think of it as a mashup of Pluto TV and Tubi.

Since it's an HP app, it's clearly designed with HP devices in mind, but you can install it on virtually any Windows 11 PC. There's no account required, no subscription, and no payment. You open the app, and content starts playing immediately, which is part of the appeal.

So what do you actually get?

You'll find a mix of live channels covering news, cooking, crime, and sports, along with a rotating library of movies and TV shows, plus a live guide and search. Don't expect the latest blockbusters or trending series. The catalog leans more toward older titles, niche content, and always-on streaming channels.

Is it actually something you’ll use?

This is where things get a bit weird. HP TV+ doesn't feel like a must-have service. It feels more like something you leave running in the background, a quick boredom fix when you don't want to think too hard about what to watch on Netflix or YouTube, or another example of PC makers building extra software to see what sticks.

The real question is whether you would actually use it.

If you already rely on free streaming platforms, this doesn't bring anything new to the table. It's just another option in an already crowded space.

The app is available through the Microsoft Store and currently holds a 4.1 rating, with several commands, some of which are actually positive.

Although the app has been designed for Windows 11, the requirements note that you can install it on Windows 10 and ARM64 devices.

At the end of the day, HP TV+ feels like one of those apps most people will open once, say "huh," and then forget it even exists.
