Microsoft's Sway multimedia presentation app will soon have a Windows 10 version

Microsoft first revealed its Sway multimedia presentation and creation app as a web-based experience in October. Today, the company revealed that it will release a native Sway all for Windows 10 sometime later this summer.

So far, Microsoft has not offered many details about the Sway app for Windows 10. It did state:

"Sway for Windows will deliver a rich, touch-first experience that syncs your Sways across your devices and the web, helping you quickly create and share Sways that look great on any screen, for anyone you share with. Just as with Windows 10, Sway's initial release on Windows 10 will be for PC and tablets.

In addition to its current web-based application, Sway is also available for the iPhone. Microsoft just announced an iPad version of Sway today as well.

  • I love Sway!
The Sway team has been kind enough to feature some of our Windows Central articles that use Sway, in thier "Sway Daily" publication. June 13, 2015 Edition

    Very cool.:-)
  • How are the articles "using" Sway. They just look like links to WP Central?   I haven't yet "got" Sway. It just looks like a cut down, yukkie version of Powerpoint. All the "Sways" tend to look the same too. Hmm
  • @hwangeruk :-)Exactly! The Windows Central articles linked in those Sway Daily publications utilize Sway.:-) (stated above- "The Sway team has been kind enough to feature some of our Windows Central articles that use Sway...") :-)
  • But no app for Windows phone...?
  • Universal app for windows ;)
  • Where can I download it then?
  • Wait for Windows 10
  • Universal app not availble at launch... /s
  • Just said tablets and PC. I'm sure it'll come to phones, bit returned it's yup to developers to support what platforms they don't have to target ask platforms.
  • It should run on both!
  • What about Phones....?
  • Universal app.
  • Double M, what's up fam!
  • The article clearly states that is will be initially available for PC and tablets. So, it's not a universal app.
  • I think what they mean is that it'll be available for PCs and Tablets first, because these devices are getting Windows 10 in the summer. As Windows 10 for phones is not coming until later in the year, there's no way we'll have universal apps running on phones by the summer.
  • Universal. And I'm not talking about Orlando.
  • That's why it is already available on the i-series. Wtf is wrong with Miggy-Soft. Did they ever heard of support your own platform first? Pfff. And don't tell me universal app is coming because not everyone will upgrade to Windows 10 once it's here. Are do universal apps work on Windows 8.x as well???! That I don't know.
  • What about FrontPage? Lol. Seriously though, that died a quick death. I wonder how Sway will fare. Will it take over PowerPoint...
  • I used it yesterday during a class presentation with moderate success. I like Sway. Compared to Prezi it could improve just a little.
  • Coming soon.....
  • FIX SKYPE!!!!!!
  • Skype needs to use less data, really
  • I know right..it's terrible
  • They complain about apps but they treat us like step children. Scroogle you Microsoft
  • It'd be funny as heck if it makes it to IOS and Droid first........but I'm sure that won't happen...I hope.
  • It's already on iOS. As we said in the post.
  • I was being sarcastic. Ha ha.
  • What is wrong with you children? They are very likely targetting 10, which is like 4 to 5 weeks away. smh. So childish. Sway isn't even that mature yet, and its not even something many in here will use - but carry on whining if makes you feel better.
  • Might actually use it then. I have zero interest in so-called "applications" that run in the browser as little more than glorified webpages. A browser version is fine, but only for use when I am on a computer that doesn't have a native version.
  • iphone already has it, iPad gets it now, and Windows sometime end of summer?!
  • Lol
  • If the philosophy is getting a bit better, then yes, hopefully by this summer. If not coming soon.
  • @DarkMatterNic:
Coming soon™. So no Windows version before summer 2016...
  • sway articles on a desktop is often a feast for your eyes on a desktop environment/screen. But the experience is simply awful on a smartphone screen. Animations are jumbles, fonts are too small, rewrapping of fonts and elements is a drama on my windows phone. I hope they do something about correct rendering on windows 10 for mobile.
  • Too early for windows -_- -_- , you should have gone with android instead of your own OS , right? -_-
  • Now that windows and devices ae together, I could care less what the application group does.My favorite thing xbox, windows, windows phone, surface, hololens, lumia are under one rooof as it should always have been. It is only important that terry step up to the bald guy and make the windows platform and devices the best on the planet and if application group feel the need to give us their apps they do, but it should not matter.
  • Microsoft should just be ashamed to issue your first app on iphone and ipad, and then on WP. In fact on WP even sway there, luckily in a few months I'm changing all my devices (smartphones, pc etc.) and I'll tell you goodbye, too many years of trust and hope you got on my part, but feel no time soon plus your name and I'll never more your service. Maybe it's true that I am one of many, but dear Microsoft there are many others who think like me. To ever again.
  • This is not a Microsoft blog, you should complain elsewhere.
  • Don't worry, I know it is not Microsoft's blog, in fact it was a comment on the release of Sway then related article. The comment is written with a tone ironic impersonally.....:)
  • All I heard was....waahh
  • Finally :)
  • Sways and Delves will be quietly killed.
  • Great!!!
  • Oh, they changed their mind?!
Where does this sudden love for Windows come from?
  • the love for windows was there all along, or else they wouldn't be making windows 10. you just didn't percieve it that way. The windows app platform is undergoing a major development and the android and ios app platforms are stable. therefore they can make an ios and android app easily, but the windows versions will have to wait for the release of windows 10 and windows 10 mobile. there's no point in investing in a windows 8.1 and wp8.1 app which will be discontinued in a few months time. And i think some of them realise that microsoft, by making android and ios apps first, is getting its services to 97% of smartphone owners, which will hopefully get more people using MS services and Bing, and maybe, just maybe, one day, their smartphone will be the only thing which isn't 'microsoft'. That's how microsoft sees it imo, and imo its a good way to see it, since they only have 3% smartphone marketshare
  • Not a good, imo. That 3% is their 3%. The idea should be to grow that 3%. Feeding the competition first isn't going to make that happen. Posted via the Windows Central App for Android
  • @dalydose: THIS! In the mission statement for the fiscal year 2016 Nadella says it's okay to develop for competitors' (platforms), as long as their success doesn't diminish Microsoft own. But prefering their competitors' platforms by SUCH A WIDE MARGIN diminishes their own success extremely. I Microsoft wants to bring their services to competitors' platforms, it's their decision to make. But it should be available only parallel or after the launch for Windows, because prefering your competitors' platforms the way Microsoft does, is a marketing catastrophe, because it delivers a terrible image of your (non-)commitment to your own platform to the public.
  • @WPUser2: Shouldn't they be able to re-use at least parts of the code of a Windows (Phone) 8.1 app for a Windows 10 app?! And even if they can't: One year prior to the launch of Windows 10 citing limited resources to prioritize against Windows should not be an argument available to Microsoft themselves but only to third party developers. And it shows (again) that there's still no "One Microsoft", if the Office division is working against the Windows division, instead of working according to a common agenda, as Nadella promises for quite some time now.
  • Not working against windows, but just do not care. Thank that windows and hardware are together now.
  • Still few of wc users are whining here..what happen to our daily whiners..." MS released Sway for iOS and iPad before WP" ... Anybody??????

  • Still waiting on the phone version. Mobile IE is terrible with it.
  • Love sway and how its a breeze to make stunning photo galleries. Can't wait to ditch the browser in favor of a WP app.
